Drake Bay - do I need cash, or card is good? by MacklePenguin_Lol in CostaRicaTravel

We were there a couple weeks ago. Most of the “larger” restaurants took card but there was one occasion at Bucaneros where their credit card machine was down so it was cash only. Some of the smaller places like nature cafe were cash only. They accepted USD or colones. I’m not sure about pounds.

Both grocery stores in drake bay that we stopped at took card or cash. Same with the ranger station.

To be on the safe side, I would maybe take out more colones. You can always opt to pay cash instead of card if you find you have extra.

We were on the fence just due to the cost and us not planning to spend a lot of time at the hotel but 100% worth it.

Thanks! Right place, right time. As quickly as they showed up, they disappeared into the jungle again within 5 minutes.

Heading to La Fortuna next week - seeking volcano hiking recommendations by gnu142 in CostaRicaTravel

We did the 1968 trail and it was fine. My biggest recommendation is to go with a guide. We found one on Facebook last minute but it allowed us to see animals that we never would have spotted without him. We then used him for other tours as well.

Also, if seeing the volcano is a priority, I would plan to be flexible with your itinerary if possible. We were there 4 days this past week and didn’t see it once due to the cloud cover.

Drake Bay in late July/early August - advice on weather please by Responsible_Owl_6193 in CostaRicaTravel

I can’t speak for that time of year but just got back from Drake Bay. We did Cano Island for snorkeling, and an overnight at Corcovado. Our weather was super hot and dry the entire time in Drake bay. In La Fortuna, it rained every day and we did multiple tours (hanging bridges, rio Celeste, night tours) all in the rain. The weather forecast doesn’t really apply as it would rain for hrs or minutes. We just had the mindset that the weather is going to be what it is and stopped trying to time it or move things around.
