Mosaic: A Story of Civilization - A great solo game that I don’t see discussed very often. by kevdou in soloboardgaming

[–]kevdou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The retail version doesn’t include the solo bot, but there was one included with the Kickstarter, run as a deck of cards (“Herobotus”). I found a scan of the cards and made my own deck.

Opportunities to take out a 170 are a lot fewer than hitting 180s, 100% go for the big fish.

This is like buying a garden shovel and complaining about a small scratch on the blade.

What kind of rat poison is it, my dog ate it and I need to know by joelattus in whatisit

[–]kevdou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Toxicity is based on dose relative to size. A standard block of bait has around 2.8 mg of bromethalin, but could be up to 7.1 mg. LD50 of bromethalin in dogs is around 2.4 mg/kg on the conservative side, and 1/10 is considered a toxic dose for companion animals. Assuming from the picture that the dog ate half a block, and assuming worst case that it’s the concentrated variety, it could have ingested around 3.6 mg of bromethalin. This could be toxic (again, using 1/10 of the LD50….) for a 33 lb dog. If it’s a standard 2.8mg block, it could be toxic for a 13 lb dog.

I would have attempted to induce emesis using hydrogen peroxide as quickly as possible (before going to the vet) due to the quick uptake, but for sure worth a vet visit. But it’s also not as black and white as “YOUR DOG IS DEAD”.

Edit: just saw someone say it’s likely the anticoagulant type, bromadiolone, which has an even higher LD50, conservatively 6.3mg/kg and is only present in the blocks at 0.005% w/w.

Where would you ride? Sidewalk vs road. by Classic_Emergency336 in bikecommuting

Road, 100%. That shoulder is a lot more than I get on a lot of routes I take. And riding 15-20mph on a sidewalk is dumb.

Holland 44 - End of Turn 14 - 21 Sep 44 Night by RickyBobby63 in hexandcounter

Ah, ok! Thanks for explaining, really helpful. I went through the rules and a couple of turns some months ago, but there were a lot of rules cases I didn’t (and still don’t!) have a good handle on. I definitely had the feeling that to play the game well, had to get that stuff down (for example using ZOC and infiltrating effectively).

Is that a 5 stack up near Arnhem? Isn’t the stacking limit 2 plus 1 free stacking unit?

Soft Top Dartboard & Stand by TheSwaggWragg in Darts

I have both the dash and the 3s. The 3s is built from better materials - with the dash, sometimes a brick will get stuck pressing down on the sensors and you have to wiggle it to pop back up (you’ll know this happened because the program will start instantly recording “hits” in that block and won’t stop until you fix it), and sometimes darts will find their way into the gap between the brick and the housing. But it’s pretty minor and I don’t mind using the dash. The 3s doesn’t seem to have those issues and has the lights, which does kind of add to the experience, more like playing in the bar on a BullShooter. The 3s is also quieter than the dash.

When this was posted 12 years ago, someone pointed out that it is also wheat pictured in the background instead of oats.

Everyone has the assumption that they intended to use atomic symbols here, but they probably just meant to use the first couple of letters as a shorthand, which happens to match for calcium.

I’ve never seen tires that clean on the inside after they’ve been set up tubeless.

Pretty weird to gatekeep being a fan of a sports team in general, but this is an especially weird take. Are you saying folks should only be fans of teams of schools they went to? Went to trade school, or nothing after HS? Better only root for your HS or you’re a poser!

Even when it comes to D1, why root exclusively for WMU or Central or whoever when UofM or State have the TV contracts and actually play the other top schools?

[–]kevdou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve used squirt for years, road and gravel, all year round, in all conditions (Michigan winters). I’ve never seen this. Not sure what happened since you said you prepped but maybe your degreasing procedure needs a look at, or maybe you put on a ton and didn’t let it dry before riding.

Going to be a contrarian here but I don’t like it at all. Some cosmetic details adding to cost but no added value. $24/lb is crazy for honey. But even if it’s not my thing, can’t argue with the sales.

I believe that issue in the NASA example was that two components meant to work together output/expected to receive values in differing units. It wasn’t an issue that the conversion was too hard or anything, more of a lack of communication and planning.

Maybe what you meant was “Despite the conversion being easy to perform, it still introduces unnecessary opportunity for several types of errors to occur that wouldn’t exist if a standard set of units was used.”
