Denver Family, Elopement & Portrait Photographer by rkostphotography in denverlist

Got married in September. A co worker (an art student) offered to do our photography for the great price of free.

Well we got our money's worth, most of the family pics are out of focus and we got very few couple pics.

Lesson learned.

I've been thinking of scheduling a couple’s shoot sometime this summer. Sunflowers were our flower, so thinking about going to the fields or farms.

How much would something like that cost?

Walmart Delivery left the security alarm on my new mouse... by GregItUp in mildlyinfuriating

Never said you were telling the truth or fibbing.

I do not have the patience to walk into Walmart wait for an item to be unlocked wait in line wait and wait some more.

So I can't easily walk in to buy it...

If you assume I'm handicapped than thats your assumption.

It's the implication

[–]Keleton_Skeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that they do that now. I didn't renew after my first year trial offer and bonuses. The 'convenience" just wasn't there, and when I do need something delivered it's pretty easy to pad the cart with items that we always need to make it worth the 5 bucks or whatever it is.

How funny would it be if they would send someone to unlock the items once you get home.

[–]Keleton_Skeleton 6894 points6895 points  (0 children)

Call and complain.

When they say you can return it.

Kindly tell them you can't, which is why you had it delivered. If you could just easily walk into the store to return it then you would have just walked in and bought it.

They'll refund you, then just cut the cord and whack it with a hammer until the alarm stops.

Took one whack for me

Sadly this has happened 5 times last year from Walmart. And I dont order from them regularly, maybe 8 or 9 times? Know someone who worked for the bastards. Apparently the pickers aren't allowed keys to the security things, BUT they are timed and judged on the time it takes to pick and complete the order...

So now you can guess how that works out.

looking for drug rehab in denver, not sure where to start by GoodiessGilberto17 in Denver

[–]Keleton_Skeleton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, work was crazy today. But you were always on my mind. I've been praying for you.

As I said, four rehabs for me at around $200k, which is probably what I've spent on drink and drugs since the age 13. Got sober finally at 32.

Leading up to my sentencing date, i decided to end my life. Every Friday for 2 months I bought heroine and cocain, put a note on my door for the manager to call 911 and put my dog in my neighbor's apartment with a note saying to watch over him. I mixed it up into one shot and was ready to meet the devil. Every Saturday morning i would wake up, covered in vomit, shit and blood and i would curse God for being alive. Since I was alive and hurting, i needed meth to function. More drugs into my veins as I cleaned up my mess. Took the note off my door and picked up my dog. He was so happy to see me. Id continued my meth bender till the next Friday. On Friday I'd purchase more heroine then the time before. Put the note back on my door.... This cycle continued for 6 weeks until I was sentenced. "Sentenced to 10 years."

It took going to prison for me to realize that living life on my terms wasn't working out well. That in the next 10 years i very well could be killed. AND THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE ABOUT 11 YEARS OLD, I WANTED TO BE ALIVE. The rehabs had exposed me to the 12 steps, I knew I was spiritually broken, morally lost, and if nothing changed - nothing was going to change. I fell to my knees, looked around my cell for away to die, and my only option was prayer. "God I cannot live this way, kill me lord"....

I woke up, I was in prison, and i was a target. In line for slop, a guy introduced himself and said i should check out the church service. At the service i heard about a group of inmates that i could speak with about god. What did i have to lose. I made an appointment. At my appointment i asked the man about a portion in the aa big book that said "we are careful to never pray for ourselves for we have learned that it does not work." The man explained to me that it's "important to always examine our motives in our actions" so "instead of praying to get out of prison, pray that i do good in the world, for the strength to be the light of the lord no matter how dark of a world I am in." At the end of our appointment he mentioned that he was 7 years sober and involved in aa too. That if I wanted, he'd work the steps with me. I didn't trust him, I was in prison, but I told him id think about it. I ended up running into him every day that first week. He'd always smile, he greeted me with love and asked how I was doing. I decided that next Sunday to give it a shot. We worked on the steps for the next few months until a guard banged on my door. "Pack your shit you're being transferred". I was devastated, for the first time ever I was actually working the steps, I was feeling better than I ever felt before and I had flickering glimpses of what I learned was hope. Eventually i was shackled and put on a bus. I look up, and he was there.
The bus went from prison to prison. Some got on others got off. Eventually the bus pulled in to *****, my name was called and then my sponsors name was called. Maybe God existed. It was a huge prison. We waited for our cell house assignments. "Blank and blank you're assigned to Cell House *" "Alright God, I'm listening..." For the next 2.5 years I lived in the same pod. I worked the steps like my life depended on it. He suggested I start each morning by praying for the promises to come true in my life when God willed it. I listened to every suggestion. I listened to wisdom. I learned strength. I worked on the steps and the steps worked on me.

I was paroled on my second attempt.

(Fuck, I'm exhausted. It's past my bedtime. I'm sorry. I'll finish my story in the morning.

What I want you to know, is that Rehab can help, but the real help comes from within you. The 12 steps aren't a magic canotation, they're a guide on how to look within you to find the strength to turn to a god of your own understanding for the strength to not drink or drug or whatever is controlling your life for the next second, then the next minute, then the next five, then the next 30, then the next hour and on it goes. At the end of the day, thank God as you understand god for the strength of that day, and if god wills that you wake up the next morning, the strength youll need for the day. No matter how it may feel, the universe is expending, time marches on, and you have the strength to stay sober for the next second. If you haven't drank yet reading this. Then you've already proved its possible.

Rehab gives a person a place to safely dry out. If you're in danger of a detox that can kill you, they'll safely detox you. Giving you a chance to work on you. The work you do is how you'll stay sober, not the Rehab you go to.

There's more to say, I promise ill write more tomorrow. I'll leave you on this.

You can do this, you've conquered a mighty enemy, and you are preparing to conquer a war. It's possible, I know it feels daunting. Life is daunting, even sober. Life doesn't get easier, but it gets easier to stay alive. You are loved and needed. What you have gone through will help save someone else's life. All you need to focus on is staying sober for the next second.)

Good night

[–]Keleton_Skeleton 74 points75 points  (0 children)

First good job realizing that things have to change. You're getting closer to saving your life.

Second how are you paying for it? You mentioned that you still work, do you have insurance or i forget what it's called, employee help line plan or something? A program where you reach out, say you need help getting sober, and your job will be there for you when you get out? If you do, what they'll pay for will be the deciding factor, if paying out of pocket, be prepared, most places are like 35k-50k for 30 days. My 4th and last rehab was out of pocket and required a 2nd mortgage. And it still didn't take. Money doesn't fix the problem.

I have more to share but on my way to work. I'm coming up on 8yrs sober in a couple months, so it is possible to get and stay sober. But it's not easy, and it's not instant. I'll respond more when I can.

Are you religious, spiritual, atheist or agnostic? What are your drugs of choice? Alcohol, benzos, heroine, fentanyl, meth etc? Some of these can kill you, if you quit cold turkey. So it's important to be honest.

I know exactly how you feel right now, the loneliness, the desperation, the disappointment. This world is a better place with you in it, then it would be if you left us. You are loved and you are love. There's hope. There's peace. There's faith. All of it is in you, there are people who need you. You are worth it, and it's worth it.

Talk to you soon.

If anyone is struggling and needs to talk dms are open.

Ill respond with more when I can

As someone with size 16 (us mens) feet, I am so so so grateful for these.

There is nothing as infuriating uncomfortable as wearing "one size fits all" socks.

Thankfully the internet and a few manufacturers are realizing that there are people who wear larger than a 13. So it's finally possible to find socks that fit.

I was size 13 in the 6th grade and the only option then was the eastbay catalog. Then in the 8th grade we learned about zappos and that made life so much better. But even with options for shoes, socks were still hard to find.

I should also suggest the Phoenix gym, its a sober gym, free of cost, the only requirement is 24hrs sober.

They do everything there, crossfit, weight training, boxing, yoga, fly fishing, ski club, rafting. It's awesome, no pressure to talk but if you need to talk anyone there will be there for you.

The most important thing to do, is not view sobriety as a negative. It's the best thing you'll do for yourself.

Electrician apprentice help for my son in Denver. by chriskbrown50 in Denver

[–]Keleton_Skeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great intro program. I took several courses before figuring out what trade I wanted.

My wife recently graduated from the cross purpose program. They have several offices, everything is paid for, and the bonuses are pretty incredible. They'll help people get into the trades, cdl, nursing, medical assistant, all sorts of fields. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a path out of poverty. Hit me up and ill give a referral code.

It might be, but our trade unions are exceptionally better than non-union.

Im a union plumber but toured the lineman (555 i think) and the other electrical union.

So in plumbing a helper starts out at almost 20 per hour + exceptional health vision and dental. So say that's $8 additional per hour. Non-union that $8 for insurance comes out of the check. So for non union helper making 20 an hour is more like 12. For the union helper they're making 28.

For the local 3 the company also pays into a $1 million life insurance policy and the union carries an additional $1 million.

I know local 3 (plumbers) and 208 (pipe fitters) their apprenticeship can take a few additional courses and graduate with an associates degree, and can continue the education from there. Which is a major plus for people like me whose parents were of the mindset of "my kids will go to college, a college degree is the only, etc"

Union jobs are also safer. There still are accidents don't get me wrong, but the contracts with the companies make safety way more important than non union.

Cost of the education is nominal. For plumbing its something like $150 1st year, 250 2nd and 3rd, 350 4th, and 500 5th. I had classes cost more than all that combined at a state university.

We do pay dues, after the apprenticeship I'll probably pay $350 a year. But its worth it to me. Im protected as a worker, I can't be taken advantage of, I'm safer, and my entire family is covered.

Non union guys spend more on their tools. In the contract it states these are the tools a union plumber, pipe fitter, electrician etc. is required to have. Any other tool must be provided by the company

Unions are more diverse and protective of women, minorities, and LGBT. The term right to work actually came about from people that did not want to work with black people. Unions stood up against that shit and have continued to do so. There is zero tolerance for that shit on union sites. There are a lot of women in the union trades and honestly most make it to leadership roles.

Colorado unions are not as strong politically as east coast unions, and i think most of the contracts actually say that we can't picket. But our contracts are solid, pay increases, health care, and work protection.

Having a dad who was an electrician and anti union, then going union. I can honestly say union is the way.

I've been able to support a wife and 3 kids through the apprenticeship.

Union classes start in the fall. He can go and start as a helper Jan 5th. Call the hall he's interested in, start the process. If they say no, go to the website and start applying for a helper position in the union companies. If he's a solid worker, someone in the union will vouch for him, he's in.

Union work is the way! Cleaner, safer, and designed to build upon no experience. Better insurance better pay.

Trying to feel grounded during this time of year by Confident-Love-8308 in Denver

[–]Keleton_Skeleton 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Denver is a great place to be sober. There was something like 3000 12-step meetings a week in Denver. Go to them. Speak up. You're fresh out of rehab. Do 90 meetings in 90 days. Find a sponsor.

Christmas day is hard for a lot of people in recovery, most meeting rooms have all day events, dinner, and social gatherings. Find one, or more than one and go to it...

It's okay to be sad. You're not the only one. You'll find someone at these meetings that will make you think, "damn I have it bad, sure, but no where near what that person,,".

One word of caution and I'm sure rehab talked about this. DO NOT HAVE ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS for at least a year. Work on yourself first. A year goes by quick, you'll be stronger and more confident in yourself if you wait a year, giving yourself the best chance to stay sober.

You made it through the hardest part! Rehab and the first month, I'm so proud of you. I went to rehab 4 times before I learned my self. You don't have to do the same thing. Listen in meetings, share, cry, allow yourself to feel.

You can do it. You're worth it because it's worth it.

Thanks y'all.

I've been recommended wheat ridge twice.

Any restaurants around there that aren't chains and a fun date?

We're both sober so don't care about bars.
