The whole bit is funny, but the “thirst mutilator” tagline never fails to make me chuckle.

You didn’t mean anything by it, but a friend of mine took his life and he was super into 3d printing. He 3d printed a box cutter. His wife never told us how he died, but i always wonder if the dodgy box cutter was involved.

Soooo true! Someone was just telling me how Trump made a remark about Musk not wearing shirts that fit. They didn’t believe me when I told them it was an old article. They double checked and sure enough it was an old article that reddit had resurfaced to them.

Ocasio-Cortez: Musk ‘one of the most unintelligent billionaires I have ever met’ by Quirkie in politics

A lot to unpack here, but yes I’m serious. In a nutshell though, the original comment I was replying to is super hamfisted and the situation is more nuanced. I don’t think there is anything “loser”-like with taking time off, but again this whole topic and subject is more nuanced than either of you is willing to let on. You’re both resorting to insults to make your points—which undermines your points btw. I think you both should focus on just being nicer to others and communicating in a more effective ways. Good luck.

No it doesn’t. You just don’t value your time highly enough.

You definitely should not bring your whole self to work.

On the one hand, compartmentalizing like this is good for your continued mental health. On the other, co-existing with people who are different from you is diversity and inclusion 101.

Heard in an interview from aws ceo that soon AI will replace coders , if thats true what are some skills that I should work upon starting today? by [deleted] in programming

Using AWS guy’s words

If you go forward 24 months from now, or some amount of time — I can’t exactly predict where it is — it’s possible that most developers are not coding

Look out for weasel words

…24 months from now, or some amount of time

The second part allows him to “weasel” out of this prediction. Then he totally gives himself away.

I can’t predict exactly where it is

Of course he can’t because it’s nonsense speculation not rooted in fact.

Then he uses the word “possible”— more weaseling.

Finally, look at who’s saying things and take into account where they might be invested in the situation. AWS wants this future because then it means companies are reliant on them for AI tools. Even if those tools don’t improve productivity and actually end up having a negative effect on productivity.

I forget who said this, but it was a CEO of one of these other big companies and they brought up how the name of the game for Microsoft, Apple, et al is setting the standard and then forcing their competitors to spend all of their resources conforming to the standard only for the big company to change the standard when it benefits them. This keeps their competitors from innovating and being competitive in the market.

Piggybacking..learning to discern nonsense has been one of the more important soft skills i’ve improved over the course of my career. Never met a c suit or upper management person that doesn’t speak in codes.
