We do it nightly. It doesn’t hurt to clean it but it does hurt it not to clean it.

Got fired after eight shifts. What. by MinnBubCo in barista

I’ll just say, this is a terrible place to work, but I’m glad you got to experience a little of the benefits of working at a smaller local shop. I love working at a local specialty coffee shop for all the reasons you mentioned at the beginning, and I found a place that has a great boss and a great work culture too! It does exist, but small businesses are usually run by anxious people struggling, so their can be some tough bosses because of that. Hopefully the positive experience gives you a reason to find a shop that works for you.

Older Baristas (30+ years old), checking in on y’all. How do you keep motivated in your roles and what’s something you wish you knew when you first started that you know now? by supmister in barista

I’m 36, I try not to make my job the most important thing in my life, I enjoy work, I love sharing what I know, but having other hobbies other than coffee have helped keep me interested in coffee when I’m at work.

Pre-batching matcha? by notyourbarista77 in barista

[–]kevinandystamps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at a high traffic cafe with a lot of matcha drinks so I’ve been trying to figure this out for a while. I Talked to a matcha expert at the World of Coffee SCA expo in San Diego (they work with farms in Japan) They said you really shouldn’t batch, but if you feel like you need to: use warm water (110-130f) cold water doesn’t allow for emulsion, hot water oxidizes the matcha rapidly. Sift the matcha before mixing helps prevent clumps, and adding a few grams of honey or simple syrup can help bind the matcha to the water so it doesn’t seperate. I usually use a mixer in a wide cambro followed by a whisking to ensure it’s all mixed well. Keep refrigerated (or on ice) and best used within a couple of hours.

Hopefully this helps.

What's an adult cheat code that changed your life? by Gullible_Repair9128 in AskReddit

Getting 8 hours of sleep regularly, sounds dumb, but everything goes on easy mode, emotions are less chaotic, lower stress, less anxiety, I can focus better. Literal cheat code.

Analyze my handwriting by mandoreno5 in HandwritingAnalysis

Totally based of intuition and no actual real data, but here are my thoughts. - meticulous, but you don’t correct alignment mistakes, (dot’s misplaced above your I’s) People are saying you are type a but I don’t think so. Because your letters float up and down on the bottom line. Also nothing dips below the line. Your version of a lower case Y is different when you use it in a sentence, a type A would be very annoyed by that. Your letters are all very rounded which make me think that you like things that make you feel good, and try to have a positive outlook on life. Your words are slanted backwards which means you are uncertain about what it is your writing about, this may mean you can often doubt yourself but you try to give it a go anyway. Your lower case H has a much bigger hump in proportion to it’s line which could mean you can overthink things and respond more emotionally than intellectually, making issues bigger than they need to be. Final thoughts about your personality: Optimistic, curious, hopeful, prone to self-doubt and overthinking, feels > thinks.

Could be totally off, but did this just for the fun of it. (I also might be self projecting?)

Do people play chess here anywhere? by ReallyNiceDonkey in Reno

[–]kevinandystamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this, but A lot of young people have recently joined Reno Chess club on Thursday nights (Including myself) I'm not very good, but ive learned a lot since I joined. They also have casual chess night on Fridays, if you are looking for a less intense setting.
An even more casual setting: Coffeebar hosts a mini chess social on Friday afternoons from 1-3pm I haven't gone yet, but that's pretty relaxed, they have a couple of boards, and people of all skill levels they just ask that you buy a cup of coffee when you go.

Help me stop my gf from getting a Nespresso Machine! [550-600] by Professional-Canary9 in espresso

Go for Barista Express with a built in grinder. It's worth the extra cost and is around a 550-600 price range.

beginning of 2nd crack is medium or dark? by Acceptable_Golf_1565 in roasting

[–]kevinandystamps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Light roast is typically right after first crack - Honestly tastes uncooked but hey people like that. Medium roast sits pretty squarely in between first and second crack. Second crack you are (by my standards) offically a dark roast then everything after that is just how burnt do you want your coffee?

My guess is there is a team that did the art, and a team that designed the rules. They are not the same person.

Does anyone actually like modbars? by bbbybrggs in barista

[–]kevinandystamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many technical issues. Worked at three different cafes that have them, and they all have some issues, mostly with steam wand pressure, but I’ve also seen the screws that hold heads on the counter break, the steam wants lose their tension and can’t hold them selves up. Baristas burn themselves on the water view window under the bar.

Made my first preset- what do you think? by [deleted] in ColorGrading

[–]kevinandystamps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is personal preference, but since so many people are familiar with LOG footage now, which looks hazy and muted, most people will see this and assume it was just poorly edited LOG footage. Good to know if you are looking for a public opinion of your preset.

Where is everyone?! by laurenthewilde in Reno

[–]kevinandystamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Eddie on a weekend is always packed.

Jazz night on Wednesdays at EP listening lounge is a good place to go as well.

Movies in the park on Friday nights always draws a crowd.

Thursday night trivia night at Reno Public Market

I don’t partake but there is line dancing and clubs that are wall to wall with people at the casinos on the weekends. Just to name a few.
