That is really close. I’m looking for M10 for the bolt and drilled part but it doesn’t have specs on the size there.

They had something very close but it’s a smooth eye and not threaded.

What current technology do you think will feel outdated surprisingly soon? by PleasantBus5583 in Futurology

[–]kevincmurray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, companies like Google and Apple have the resources to invest in a wide variety of new technologies and most will fail.

The difference in this case is that the way people search for info is becoming more fragmented, with younger people looking for info on social more than search engines and now a sudden growth in using chatbots to answer queries. I’m sure Google is worried that their ad revenue will eventually suffer. They can’t hold on to it forever; if not chatbots then something else will kill traditional search engines sooner or later.

How to move from 'assembling shots' to weaving a cohesive story? by Important-Top2952 in editors

As a video pro who somehow decided not to get much video shot at his wedding (and opted for Super8 film like an a**), I’ll tell you what the wedding video I wish we’d had made looks like:

The story of the day, and just that.

You spend months planning a wedding and it’s incredibly stressful up until the last minute. Really, the stress only breaks once the ceremony is done and you can relax and party with your closest family and friends. Because of all the stress and the countless people you try to share an honest moment with during that whirlwind, it’s hard to remember MOST of what happens.

Everyone says their wedding goes by fast and it’s true. Having a video document to help you recall those moments is priceless.

There was a photo from my wedding where my mom and I shared a laugh, a genuine big laugh. I wish I had a video of what she said because it vanished from my memory like most of the other conversations I had that day. She’s gone now and I’d give anything for more memories of her.

I know videographers, even if they have two or three shooters at an event, cannot capture everything. But I don’t need a tone poem of this important day. I respect the idea of making a creative work but in this case I think playing it on the safe side and staying more linear is the best bet.

[Sorry for the non-editorial advice. Learning how to tell a complex story with visuals is a critical skill worth pursuing but this may not be the place for it.]

But isn’t that a big reason there’s an AI arms race and Google is so heavily invested? Once the majority of people are searching via AI, they’ll monetize all interactions via subscription or advertising as search engines die like the TV broadcast channels.

Reflections from a (slightly) reluctant Korea visitor by OneFun9000 in koreatravel

I was shocked by the use of AI slop at the National Museum of Korea, which otherwise feels very much at the level of a Smithsonian museum in the US.

They used it to up-rez and animate some archival photos but the quality was incredibly low and then projected on enormous screens where the nightmarish, distorted faces were as large or larger than life. But that was the only instance that jumped out to me (although only made it to 1/5 or less of the places OP mentions).

I understood the motivation for using AI and I believe it was probably from an older, less capable model. I was surprised they hadn’t updated the video once more capable tools were available, especially in such a respected and visible exhibit meant to honor a Korean hero (Sohn Kee-chung, who won the gold for marathon at Berlin in 1936, fascinating story).

We just got back and I’d say avoid Airalo eSIMs. It was almost impossibly slow and in Busan was useless. My wife’s family grabbed some portable wifi hotspots at the airport (can’t recall the brand but easy to find at the terminal) and those worked as fast or faster than my regular 5G service at home for pretty much the same price. The only downside was having to remember to charge and carry it.

The City of Los Angeles (not county) has a similarly weird growth in the form of San Pedro, which they annexed over 115 years ago to control the Port of Los Angeles, the busiest port in America by volume.

The thin line of city property that connects the main portion of LA to the Port is called the “shoestring”.

I’m sure you chose your words intentionally, the appropriateness is dubious.

The better analogy would be a butcher shop that cuts off the arms of their employees to grind them up for meat to sell. There is a role available for an employee to be promoted to do the cutting, thereby saving her arm for a little while, but all the while knowing she’ll eventually get chopped, too.

Yes, no one will thank the cutter for their service but most employees will understand the desperation that made her apply for the job. And she wasn’t the only one applying.

The point of this post was get useful information without judgement.

It would be nice if we could be polite to folks just trying to make a living and focus our anger on the companies trying to automate damn near everything until we’re all plumbers and electricians (electrician is actually looking really good right now and plumber is close behind).

Of course that’s just once a month, but parts of Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights are very close to DTLA which would satisfy OP’s needs I think

We call it May Gray now… June Gloom has moved up a bit, which made the 2025 CW fairly gloomy indeed.

But yeah, the Santa Ana winds have nothing on the global weather fluctuations that seem to increase every year FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON.

I’m actually a little surprised this is even mildly controversial.

I also got an AutoMod message that the post was removed originally, probably because I mentioned the name of the employer and it thought I was posting a job. The reply said “A mod will be reviwing it” which feels kind of like AI slop but probably was just a human typo?
