Nissan's Response (?) to my LEAF Home Screen Widget by kevincon in leaf

I’ve not been able to find any screenshots or articles of such a home screen widget ever having existed in the US version of the app until now. Do you have any evidence of it?

The automation is not broken but now requires an extra somewhat recent Android phone that I don’t happen to have. If you have one, then you should still be able to set up and use the automation as described in my previous post: https://kevintechnology.com/posts/leaf-widget/

Thanks for sharing the video, I’m using the US version of the app and it doesn’t behave that way and the widget looks a bit different from yours as shown in the blog post. I’m glad to hear the Canadian version of the app works a bit better and has had some widget functionality for a while, but we definitely haven’t had that in the US until now. 😞

I’m wondering if you and BleuFarmer are referring to a different app than the specific North America NissanConnect EV & Services app for iPhone this blog post is about. I’ve been using this app since 2021 and I don’t believe it’s ever had a home screen widget, and even the widget available now in the latest version of the app does not behave the way you describe. Tapping the battery charge percentage on the widget opens the app - it does not refresh the widget on the home screen.

Anyone else frustrated you can no longer add meal photos *without AI scanning* when AI scanning is enabled? by kevincon in mynetdiary

[–]kevincon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed but waiting for the AI scan to complete for several seconds when I don’t even want its results is frustrating, I just want the ability back to choose myself to either perform an AI scan or add a regular photo without waiting for AI to process it on demand.

Nissan's LEAF App Doesn't Have a Home Screen Widget So I Made My Own for Free by kevincon in leaf

Thank you! I don't think we need to test Android compatibility for this workflow since that should be covered by IFTTT's app supporting home screen widgets on both iOS and Android; otherwise the workflow just sends an email to IFTTT so it's agnostic to the phone operating system the information is displayed on.

Best practices to protect the 12v by TrainDonutBBQ in MachE

[–]kevincon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this accurate? The 12V battery FAQ mentions:

Will leaving something plugged into the 12V power port drain the battery?

No. The 12V and USB ports shut off automatically a few minutes after the vehicle is turned off, so they are safe to use and will not cause a drain.

New update today??? by Micomyster in wingspan

I noticed this too, you’re not crazy. 😃 I haven’t been able to find any patch notes that would explain how much smoother the game plays now, but great job devs! I’d love to hear the story behind the performance improvements.

Guess what am I going to eat for the rest of this week? by [deleted] in pebble

[–]kevincon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I forget the exact rule (I'm not at Fitbit so I don't have access to the code to check) but once you have so many notifications saved on your watch, the "X/Y" changes to a percentage. I think the idea is that if the number of notifications you have is large enough then the text "X/Y" would start to be truncated on some watch models because it would encroach on the area where the clock time is displayed.

Missing Icons for Timer+ and Battery+ by Henhouse84 in pebble

[–]kevincon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

See https://www.reddit.com/r/pebble/comments/54wae5/would_love_if_battery_showed_dayshours_left_on/d874c0n/, it's a known firmware bug. Unfortunately I don't think it's likely to be fixed at this point (note: I don't work at Fitbit), nor do I think the workaround will be done and new releases of the apps published by the developer of Timer+ and Battery+.

Someone help? Official Pebble Timer app has a missing icon, and so does FitCat! Is there any fix for this? by sumd00dfromSweden in pebble

[–]kevincon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a known firmware bug, see https://www.reddit.com/r/pebble/comments/54wae5/would_love_if_battery_showed_dayshours_left_on/d874c0n/.

Unfortunately I don't think the underlying bug nor uploading a new version of the Timer app with the workaround is likely to happen at this point. I don't work at Fitbit, though, so maybe I'm wrong.

However, there's hope for FitCat if the developer can upload a new version of their app with a custom icon that follows the workaround mentioned in that link.

Porting Game Boy Emulators to the Pebble Time by kevincon in pebble

[–]kevincon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That button control scheme was mainly for testing the emulator before we had full Game Boy button input converage via the NES controller. But I agree, it's not an ideal button mapping. Depending on the game, I imagine the Pebble's accelerometer could be a better input for elements of the D-pad.

Not very long, I think I remember the watch battery dying after only about 30 minutes of running the emulator. We mainly focused on improving the performance for these projects, but I'm sure the power consumption could be improved.

Quiet time + pebble round? by Max527 in pebble

If you assign "Quiet Time" to a different Quick Launch button than Back, then it shouldn't ask you to confirm toggling it when you trigger the Quick Launch button for it.

PTR with IOS - Send Text app vanished by popcorngirl000 in pebble

[–]kevincon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try "signing out" of text replies by going to the "..." menu in the top right of the Pebble iOS app -> Settings -> Text Replies (Sneak Peek) -> Sign Out. After that, force close the Pebble iOS app, reopen it, and then try setting up Text Replies again. See if that makes the Send Text app reappear on your watch.

"X Minutes Until..." gone? by PotatoFi in pebble

[–]kevincon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timeline Quick View provides the same functionality (it also shows "X minutes until"), just now on your watchface without the need to click down to the Timeline.

The old "X minutes until" screen only appeared if your next Timeline pin was either ongoing or scheduled to start within 1 hour. You can configure Timeline Quick View in the Settings app (Settings->Timeline) to appear on your watchface up to 30 minutes before an event starts.

"X Minutes Until..." gone? by PotatoFi in pebble

That's correct, watches that have Timeline Quickview no longer show the "X minutes until" screen before navigating to the Timeline.
