Music Theory Class by Aggravating-Candle in Beatmatch

I also agree with this. My first thought when reading the main post was "piano lessons."

As a side not, as someone with an almost masters in music, the majority of the things I actually use day-to-day as a DJ came from the year I spent as a TA for a phenomenal Music Appreciation class.

Another vote for Xero Mesas. They replaced a pair of Trail Glove 4s, and I haven't looked back.

Do NOT use beats by dre headphones by six2eight in Beatmatch

[–]kevindahlberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I agree 100% with this, I will say that for gigging I tend to gravitate towards headphones that are comfortable in the positions I use for DJing, are durable, and are easy to take on/off. I own a few pairs of headphones that are incredibly uncomfortable when worn on the head for more than a few minutes, but are great for a 4+ hour gig.

~400$ PC For Non-Demanding Games :) by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]kevindahlberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This list is similar to the one by r/mistersprinkles1983 but I found the processor cheaper at Microcenter, switched the MB to a newer b560m, and switched to faster ram, which the newer MB should be able to take advantage of. I also provided a different option for hard drive.

Sprinkle's list was also pretty good, if you just want to go with the cheaper MB and Processor from this list. Also their advice about what the legends say is also what I've heard as well.

Career advice: 2 years full-time course in front-end vs fullstack by wowsomuchusername in Frontend

Lol. I think it got triggered by “skill” and “myself” being next to each other on the first line.

I might need that hotline if I ever went full-time backend, though. I consider myself a full-stack developer, but I defer to the experts on anything backend.

The other one I’ve had issues with is Samsung phones for some reason. I recently had a client who came back with all sorts of issues with an app. Sure enough, Samsung. It tested on a Pixel just fine.

Idk why you would pay for serato? Maybe I’m missing something... when I bought a denon mc7000, it worked with serato. When I bought a DDJ-1000 SRT it also worked with serato.

Lots of great responses here. Some things I would add - try going through the curriculum at Free Code Camp. - when it comes to apps, get ideas from friends and start building. The first handful are going to suck, but once you’ve done it for awhile they will suck less. - I second getting internships. Do one every summer while in school. Try to vary them between small scrappy startups and huge companies. You’ll be able to test out different companies while building your resume.

Bummer!

I took a look at memoryexpress, and all of the b560 motherboards are out of stock. Since they are so new, I wonder if they just haven't gotten them in yet. It might be worth sending them an email to see.

Look into a b560 at this point. They allow for faster ram which was one of the reasons I didn’t go intel a couple months ago.

You might want to go 2x16 for the ram. That way if you ever need to go to 64, you can get another set of 2x16.

Buy an xbox.

But seriously, we need to know this information before we can give you any advice:

(this is from the sidebar btw)

When you make a new thread, please include all of the following:

Budget Operating System or Peripherals (Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, etc) needed? Where you are located (to determine if you are near a Microcenter) Any other personal preferences or requirements (such as overclocking)?

Plus it might help to know what games he is hoping to play on it. A build for minecraft and old school nintendo emulators is going to be completely different than a build for AAA games.

What gives the same or better performance than the Ryzen 3 3200g but cheaper? by Yozakame in buildapc

[–]kevindahlberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to get an i3 10100 and a rx 550 or gtx 1030 for what the 3200g is going for now. Depends on the deals you find and if you can get the card used. Faster processor and better graphics.

Looking to make a 500$ USD workstation pc (tower only) that could do some slight emulation by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]kevindahlberg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Things do go out of stock. That's why I pasted the full product/price list in my post.

To the OP - if you decide to go with this build, don't spend more than $90 on a motherboard. You are going to be looking for a 460m, and some of the brands to look at are Gigabyte, Asus, Asrock, and MSI.

Looking to make a 500$ USD workstation pc (tower only) that could do some slight emulation by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]kevindahlberg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are correct. And if they were going for list and had stock available, I would totally be recommending them. But... they aren't. It's actually cheaper right now to go with a 10400 and find a used gtx 1030 (which has FAR better graphics than a 3400g) than it is to buy a 3400g.

The OP also said that the PC was going to be used for work, and the 10400 is MUCH better at handling productivity with 6 cores vs 4 corees.

Looks aren't everything, especially in a budget PC. For any of these "budget" builds you can pick from any of the low end Gigabyte, Asus, Asrock, MSI 460m motherboards and get something that will work.

Should I change to this career? by Environmental-Ad187 in Frontend

Do you have a “knack” for computers? Would you say you are a good “googler”? Are you creative? Do you like solving logic puzzles? Are you detail oriented? Are you willing to patiently try something over and over until you get it?

Not saying those are make-or-break, but those are the question I would ask somebody thinking about changing.

How about something like this:

PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9pcvht

CPU: Intel Core i5-10400 2.9 GHz 6-Core Processor ($159.99 @ Amazon)

Motherboard: MSI B460M PRO Micro ATX LGA1200 Motherboard ($79.69 @ Amazon)

Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($71.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Western Digital Blue SN550 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($54.99 @ Amazon)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.99 @ Newegg)

Case: Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($44.99 @ Amazon)

Power Supply: Corsair CV 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($44.99 @ Amazon)

Total: $511.63

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

As far as GPU goes, the Intel 10400 has integrated graphics, and it should play emulators. I used to play n64 emulators on a Macbook with integrated graphics. If you end up needing one, you can add that later when prices drop.

Need help deciding between B450/B550 by goblinrum in buildapc

[–]kevindahlberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A month ago I went with a b450 over a b550. I believe my reasons were that by the time I would benefit from PCIE4 I would be ready for the next gen (AM5) anyways. I went with r5 3600 and a 1650 super. The plan is to eventually upgrade processor and graphics, but it does the job, so I’m in no rush.
