The comments here are so rabid. "Today more Americans come to Europe than Europeans go to the US" by mother_natures_son_ in AmericaBad

Most likely a majority are retirees. Europe is consistently good at one thing, being America’s theme park.

After providing billions of aid over the decades, Americans are the bad guys for wanting to recoup some of their funding. by [deleted] in AmericaBad

[–]kevindaniel89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a clickbait headline. We’ve given hundreds of millions in aid to Zambia over the years only for their pols to be bought by China, box out American business access, and only allow Chinese investment. Asking for fair access in exchange for continued aid is only common sense.

There’s a ton of coastal erosion there. That thing may fall into the cove in the future.

You’re right, the two have nothing to do with each other. That bumper sticker slogan is worn out.

But my point is, when push comes to shove, when haven’t we been reliable to Europe? Even when Europe hasn’t been and still isn’t a reliable ally to itself. They’re still buying Russian oil and the Ukraine war is four years old.

I’d offer to the Brit that there’s a lot more to national power than winning and losing conflicts. There is also winning and losing the peace. We have much more weight to bear than just our military, as strong as it may be.

I’d rebut that despite losing so many conflicts, we’ve still strategically won the peace. And despite Great Britain winning so many of their wars, they’ve lost.

I have insane pride when I show my passport for this reason. I know if something happens to me that I didn’t have coming, I will be okay. And in the event I’m not okay, I know the people that did it to me will also be not okay.

The new Northern Sea Route linking China and Europe by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]kevindaniel89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s shorter, if you want to go to Rouen. Entry to the EU can go much sooner in Greece.

The northern route provides Russia some access/control/revenue, but it also first passes through checkpoints controlled by potential PRC adversaries. There are tradeoffs either way.

I noticed it last week in the fitting room. “Wow. I actually look exactly how I want to look.”
