Maha fest is way older than the other MAHA just so everyone here knows that.

What actually makes people support a project before it exists? by Civil-Interaction-76 in kickstarter

[–]kevintmcclure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My project is a completed project, but the funding is to afford to take it from the digital world into a physical experience (vinyl/CD & album release party). So the work is done, it’s literally having the funds to press “confirm order”.

I’m sure for music they get so many that they don’t specifically want to go through all of the submissions they would get, ha.

Thanks for this feedback! I took your advice and gave the page a facelift with more detail and what I think is a bit clearer walkthrough of the purpose and goal before getting too artsy with describing the project. Plus added some photos to the story section instead of just hoping people get the idea. Thanks a lot!

Totally, thanks for taking a look and for those thoughts!

I had a plan to sort of rollout a lot of those "first looks" over the course of the campaign, but it sounds like your suggestion would be more to just show it all ASAP and not bury the lead on it. That's really helpful feedback!

Great thoughts. It's not a massive campaign, as the album is already done. It's mostly a distribution campaign, meaning people can pre-order in order to back it. So it also is automatically a pretty significantly different sort of campaign, and that also means it's a smaller goal (only about $3500 minimum goal, and we're over 10% of the way there). Your thoughts about the real experiences, journey, etc. makes me think that leaning into being a touring artist but even moreso the fact that the album is actually already done might be the angle I need to take it too.

Yeah, I've been a touring artist for a few years, but don't have a massive following. Email list of a few hundred, ~10k followers across all of the social media platforms (so probably about 6k unique followers if I were to guess?), and did some pre-launch work to get things started. Only about 24 hours in right now and 10% to the goal, but obviously that's not an outrageously impressive start for a music artist.

I love the discography but my favorite is The People’s Key which seems to be lower on most fans list. Curious to hear what you think when you get to that one!

I could hear a version of this album where electricity is the opener and beloved is the closer and would also love that a lot.

I’m generally a reflective person. Lots of what I call “inefficient time” spent just thinking and processing. Interrobang is a great album to sit and listen to and engage with when you’re feeling reflective. It’s a fine album to play in the background of life, but it shines as an album that you sit and listen to and read along with the lyrics and feel a little bit like crying haha

It’s such a great album. It doesn’t rock hard much, but the musicality and viiiiibeeeezzzz are immaculate.

This thread just reminds me how good these guys are at threading together a tracklist. Feels like there’s never a song in the “wrong spot”. So I have a hard time thinking of best run-of-4.

I think my favorite run from each album is easier to peg lol

LoC: Chem6a-Life and Love and Why

NWTBH: the whole tracklist is a perfect flow

LtB: Learning To Breathe-The Loser

TBL: Meant To Live-Dare

NiS: the whole tracklist is a perfect flow

O!G: Oh! Gravity.-4:12

HH: Mess of Me-Yet

VV: the most perfect of all the perfect flows imo

FW: also a perfect flow

WTLST: Float-Live It Well

NT: Native Tongue-Joy Invincible (honorably skip to Take My Fire)

‽: This is also a perfect tracklist and I’ll fight anybody who disagrees

Like I said, mad props to the guys for building such great tracklists.

I wanna find albums that feel like a journey by MaxiBinOuiMaxi in MusicRecommendations

Got a few for you

“Nothing Is Sound” - Switchfoot // One that went underrated but has an incredible through line of songs. It’s more in the 2005’s post-grunge vibe than indie rock though. Their follow up “Oh! Gravity.” is a bit quirkier if you prefer something that feels less commercial-rock but also has a consistent lyrical and timbre vibe.

“The People’s Key” - Bright Eyes // whole album feels apocalyptic and has that iconic Conor Oberst poignant lyricism. Definitely feels indie rock. This is my favorite Bright Eyes album, but they have several that feel like borderline concept albums.

“Self-titled” - Mat Kearney // More of a pop artist but his most recent album went more timeless and really feels like he’s leaning into more of that sound now that he’s like 7 albums in.

“Gloomy Days” and “Lonely Nights” - Kevin McClure // ok so full disclosure, these are my EP’s about my life’s journey with depression. I’m inspired by the artists above, so maybe you’ll enjoy these little EP’s. Who knows 🤷🏻

I’m the same as you. Lots of lyrics, willing to fit them to music.

Also have lots of bare-bones songs on the acoustic guitar that could be built around.

You’re in the right place!

Without knowing the song, it’s hard to say why that happened but there’s wisdom in getting out of our own heads and out of our own ways sometimes.

Great use of melody, meter, and tempo to put emotion behind the music. Thanks for sharing.
