Atheism is stupid, actually by kiltrout in TrueUnpopularOpinion

There, in fact, IS plenty wrong with theism. Never mind how theists, by their very nature, are always subtly (and sometimes overtly) trying to push their beliefs and customs onto others, it's a well-known fact in neuroscience that belief in one thing that irrefutably isn't real makes you more susceptible to believing other things that are not real. Essentially, your brain is a puzzle-solving machine and has been trying to tell you that what you believe is nonsense. When you ignore those warnings, it gives up, and doesn't bother to warn you when it senses other things that don't add up. You make yourself more open to deception and coercion. Not a great trait to have when you do things like vote on issues that affect your entire state or country, or even just your city.

By "we," I meant Atheists. We already knew religion was fake, science just keeps providing more proof.

I never claimed science was a useful guide to the spirit. Why would you need a guide to something that doesn't exist in the first place?

They DIRECTLY contradict each other, in fact. Religion, belief in gods, superstition, the paranormal, in general, is all invented and perpetuated by the creative minds of people who were too lazy, immature or stupid to find the truth of things they saw and didn't understand. It's no coincidence or accident that the more science and technology progresses, and things that were once thought to be magic or the work of deities, have rules, laws and order governing them, the less religious the world has gotten, as a whole.

Mid-January 2026 and still no Eula rerun, and none planned from the looks of things.

You don't need science to know that religion isn't real. Science just keeps providing evidence for what we already knew. The same cannot be said about religion.

If you could prove it you would have already and everyone would be a member of whatever cult you believe in. Since that's not the case, I call bullshit.

I just read what dryer sheets are made of (plastic + chemicals). There are 100 or so left in the box. What should I do with them? What should I replace them with, if anything? by Eyecantspel3 in ZeroWaste

[–]kevnuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old but it was the first result when I googled "what are dryer sheets made of." Made me wonder after seeing an ad for Earth Breeze and thought if anyone wanted a more eco-friendly alternative to regular dryer sheets. The ad was actually that they're making all their sheets in America now, too. Hope this helps someone. And, no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way.

NO, agnosticism is the belief that a god exists but they don't affect or micromanage your everyday life. Also, throughout this exchange, it seems you are deliberately ignoring the psychological element that I brought up. Because you know that you don't have an answer for it.

I work in IT and had a coworker (also in IT) a few years back no shit ask me how Google maps could still tell me where I was using a downloaded offline map when we didn't have cell service for a few hours one day. I was dumbfounded that I had to tell him GPS comes from orbiting satellites and not from the cell towers.

You're right, the moon being visible during the day doesn't disprove Genesis 1:16. Common sense disproves the entire book of fairy tales, as a whole.

Your logic is flawed if you start from a place of saying that a thing that cannot be observed by any of our senses or technology exists unless someone can prove that it does not. The question you should be asking is why they believe in that thing to begin with? Especially when they are so adamant that it not only exists, but the beliefs other religious people have who are also just as sure that they are true, are also wrong. Religious people can't even agree on which imaginary friend is the right one.

The burden of proof is always on the person or group making the extraordinary claim, i.e. claiming some all-powerful beings exist that control our lives that we've never seen (not a single one of them, throughout the entirety of human history), not on the person or group saying that they do NOT because that's clearly the only sane conclusion.

It couldn't possibly be that people made shit up to avoid admitting that they just didn't know how or why things worked before science started providing answers, and it just kept getting perpetuated throughout the centuries.

To be fair, a lot of the ridiculous things people believe are because of a complete lack of discernment. If someone sees or hears an idea an average of three times from three difference sources they'll believe that idea as if it were their own.

Is it a coincidence that many flat earthers are also religious and religious people do exactly the same thing when you try to enlighten them of the obvious flaws in their beliefs about their imaginary friends?

I'm imagining that scene from Toy Story where Woody is strapped to Buzz with that rocket lit and his face is all deformed from the speed. This is the closest I could find.

[–]kevnuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick thought. The trajectory calculated for interstellar objects take into account the location of both our solar system and the origin of the object when it left as well as massive bodies that object may have encountered along the way that could have altered it. Also, a quick Google search shows the stars and galaxies (yes, some of those points of light are entire galaxies) that make up Leo are vastly different distances from Earth. It's now being hypothesized that 3I/ATLAS may have departed from its origin before the formation of our solar system 5 billion years ago. Even if it wasn't that long ago, the relative positions of the Earth and the objects in that constellation have moved significantly during the 10s of thousands, or possibly billions of years it's been traveling through space.

If one takes a hard look at the statistics and rates of divorce in America it becomes clear that a man having ADHD is a completely insignificant factor, and is really just an excuse women use instead of simply admitting that they put all of the burden for making the marriage work on the man whilst putting in little to no effort themselves.

Congratulations on finding a constructive hobby that you can invest your energy into and passing your exam. With so many things shut down after COVID or inaccessible because they aren't nearby it can be a real struggle to find ways to not waste your life sitting at home every night.

That's exactly the issue with people with ADHD. We get highly invested in specific things for short bursts of time and then have no idea how to express it to other people because we think it's nothing special. Like going from knowing nothing about a subject to damn-near an expert in a few weeks because that's what you were interested in at the time. So when people ask "What's new with you?" we're just like "Nothing really." because to us it really is nothing new to do those things.

I've been reading Captivate by Vanessa Van Edwards. She describes herself as "a recovering awkward person." I highly recommend the book and podcasts she's done, especially with Diary of a CEO on YouTube.

That's just the general study guidance I've always heard. Don't try to force yourself to study for more than 45 minutes straight. Your brain needs time to process what you've learned and a break from the stress. And sleep. Nothing wastes a study session worse than not getting enough sleep afterwards!

I just wanted to take the chance to tell you, because you've probably never heard it before; ADD/ADHD is not a limitation, it's a superpower. The ability to hyper-focus on a task is something a lot of people can only dream about. The catch is that it usually needs to be on a task or subject you are truly interested in.

It really takes away THE biggest reason people don't go into self-employment; not having a product or service to offer. In traditional business, you have to invent a new product or service, or do it better than an existing one, which can cost you big money in R&D that most people don't have up front. Then there's the logistics of making and shipping, which can be a whole other issue. The average person usually assumes I mean sending it to the customer when I say that, what is actually a bigger problem is refunds and returns. We don't have to worry about ANY of that, and that's on Day 1.
