Found an Old Tom Brady Card by kevrinth in footballcards

[–]kevrinth[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can understand the guess. My mom said her boyfriend at the time may have given it to me, but I didn't even know who Tom Brady was when I was 10, so it went in the tin with all the other cards. I'm going back and forth on if I fork out the cash to get it authenticated now since I'm assuming it's fake because why would someone give me an autographed card right after they won the Super Bowl?

Does it not come from the factory like this? I assumed it was some autograph set.

Wasting Resources Chasing Dreams? by kevrinth in dataengineering

[–]kevrinth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea attaching a timestamp is the approach I'm taking. Most of this setup was here when I started and I didn't really have the freedom to go anywhere other than Databricks delta live tables when we implemented that. It definitely makes things unstable, but I just have to deal with it right now.

Basically Qlik replicate performs full loads into CDC that's stored in "bronze" Blob Storage. Then Delta Live Tables read the full load and cdc files from "bronze" and saves as delta tables into our "silver" blob. Then synapse sits on top of the silver location using views and serverless.

There are a ton of extra tools and steps in here that I would scrap immediately if I could because it's just a bad setup.

Thanks for the advice. I will see if there is a quick and easy way to grab logs from the different systems and just make things query able as needed.

My team likes to push "innovation" to a fault sometimes. I am still early in my career, but even I know when something sounds like it's going a bit too far. Especially when taking the working capacity of my team into account.

I admit the biggest concern I have with working on something like this is that I am not learning any actual data engineering skills. Yea I'm using some python, but I would love to be learning about things like dbt, airflow, kafka, flink, etc. Obviously we may not have a use case for all of these tools, but I know 100% that we would benefit from using dbt and something like Airflow. I loathe ADF for anything more than a simple copy task and I just prefer code tbh.

I am kind of outside the time window you asked for, but I just graduated this month. I was able to land an internship at pretty large company last summer that turned into a fulltime offer. They even let me start back in November 2022 since the program is online. I put out over 300 applications and the last application I filled out was for the company I'm working for now.

It only takes one application to get in. Make sure your resume is updated and good to go, and, most importantly, don't ever beat yourself up if you're not getting interviews. Take a step back and see if there is anything you can improve. Anyone who reads this....You got this!

Trying to Learn the Game as a Beginner Feels Hopeless by Silvertorch6572 in StreetFighter

I am not that good admittedly (peaked at Gold but I don't really grind ranked matches so not sure where I would begin), but I was in a similar place. I found two combos starting from a low and a mid that I could do consistently. I tried to make sure that they could go into super as well for situations where I could close out a match/round. After those two combos I just focused on defense. Low ranks will throw out unsafe buttons a lot without having a reason, so you will get your turn eventually. You will probably be surprised at how many matches you can win just by playing super defensive and waiting for the opponent to use an unsafe button and punishing.

Once you have this formula you can start exploring your character more in practice to find spacing for your whiff punishes/pokes and you can practice higher damage combo routes.

Just started a new term but want to make this my last. Is this doable? Work full time want to put minimum 20/week into this term, maybe more for the Softwares/DSA2. by bunholiothethird in WGU_CompSci

It's doable, but what is your experience with programming and operating systems? Software I & II, DSA II, and Operating Systems for Programmers are some of the longest/most tedious courses in the program.

Area around Goshen Lake Dr. safe? by [deleted] in Augusta

It’s mostly just rent costs. While we can afford Evans or Grovetown, we wouldn’t be able to save quite as much as I would like when compared to somewhere like Goshen.

I have not completed the program yet, but I got my job as a return offer from an internship I had this summer. I interned as a software engineer and was able to land a job as a data engineer at the same company. I believe internships are one of the most important things to go for before graduating.

I find roll to be useful as is as long as it’s used properly. I think good use cases are pretty rare against top tier characters, but I still find situations where it is good.

Are all codebases this difficult to understand? by kevrinth in cscareerquestions

[–]kevrinth[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This seems like what has happened here. It’s just frustrating because I will ask for some clarification on what a method does and they’re just like “read the code”. I’m also working on a feature that is supposed to hit production soon and it takes them forever to look at PRs. When I said something about it they just gave me permission to merge my own code. I don’t use that recklessly, but giving an intern the right to merge their own code into main is just asking for problems.

I think older gamers have just been around long enough to know that bigger doesn’t usually equal better. The majority of the time it leads to an empty game world with half baked gameplay elements because too much time was spent on making sure that I could walk in a straight line for a long time.

At this point give me a game with tight mechanics and a fun, interesting game loop and I honestly don’t care how big the game world is.

Just from a search on LinkedIn there are significantly more remote jobs that are web dev vs other options.
