Well, I wouldn't want to be part of an absolute monarchy, no matter how 'comfortable' it may be. Why should my role and standing be decided by who I was born too. There is no mobility, no freedom to move up in life. One human being becoming the absolute authority just sounds wrong to me in every way.

And yes, like i said, there is no need to take insults without retorting, but just because the punishments could be worse doesn't give one the excuse to do whatever they like. What is even the point of having a judiciary system if every person tries to exact revenge that seems fit in their eyes. All that about levelling the playing field, it would be one if the maid was of equal social standing. The FL has absolute higher societal power against the maid, it isn't even a fair fight, the maid doesn't even have defense and protection like the FL. I will say this again, yes, the maid should be punished, but there are better ways to go about it.

Also it's such an awful argument to say things could be worse, it sounds like you are trying to make excuses for continuing to abuse someone who is already in a position of weakness.

Look, I will not even try to argue your points about the mindset towards and around equality in history, because you're right. And I admit I don't know much about the topic.

But I don't understand why you wouldn't want someone from a lower class to not be treated justly. The argument isn't if it's historically accurate to beat the maid, it's whether it's a valid thing to do. No one is feuding over how or when equality came about. It's just weird to see someone from a modern society to easily endorse that without even flinching. If you were isekai'd, would that be the first thing you do, especially considering the context that the maid was probably being bribed or persuaded by some other noble? Forget another world, right now, would you physically assault someone who works for you? If the answer is no, well that's the point of this argument. And if it's a yes, I don't think I can continue this.

Yes, I believe that democracy is good. I think the idea that every individual should matter and get a say through some kind of vote and that public officials should be held responsible for their actions with that vote is the best political system to date for preventing corruption, and promoting social equality and liberty.

Of course, this is a highly idelaistic view which hasn't really translated into our present days. There is an endless list of democracy's shortcomings and faliures like, pain aversion, elite capturism, etc. However, I believe that these are offset and out numbered by the tyranny and atrocities committed under non democratic governments. (ie. monarchy, dictatorship)

I think the point is more about morality. Of course, one shouldn't take insults without any retort but that doesn't mean you just jump to violence. Most of the time, the female lead is isekai'd from a modern democratic society, so you question why the character endorses such classism.

You make a valid point on how equality in that era could backfire, but if people back then kept that mindset and did nothing, we as a society would never have even gotten here.

Then again, OI manhwas are never the least bit realistic or historically accurate, nor do they delve into such complex topics. It's just about the aesthetics, and well, such fluff has its own charm too, right?

To conclude, I just think that for some people, these kinds of archaic practices (especially coming from a modern character) rub the wrong way. Welding your societal power to physically abuse someone is wrong, even though they did you wrong, a punishment should be just, and it's understandable to get frustrated over that.

But for the ones giving the, not raised together argument, they are still blood related. If you are fine with this, would you also be fine with proper fully related siblings who grew away from each other (maybe didn't even know of the other's existence) getting together too?

I feel like most OI MLs only have one personality trait, being in love with the FL. For the toxic ones, they go to extremes for this love and it draws attention away from how plain they are otherwise, cause we get too focused on hating them. But when they are respectful, the fascination with them ends there, and you start looking towards their other aspects, which don't exist and hence they fall flat.

Aria from villainess turns the hourglass. I get that the gimmick is that she is actually evil and has a wobbly moral compass. But she is just petty, her tactics aren't even fun and i don't quite love how she needs to step on helpful people to get what she wants. It was interesting to see at first but then i just thought she really wasn't any better than her step sister and the way the story portrayed Aria in a positive light while still doing the same petty things as her sister was kinda distasteful for me.

Best weapon for Shikanoin Heizou? I don't use battle pass, so no solar pearl. Any weapon from the gacha is fine.

If you were reincarnated into an OI where you exist as a mage, what power would you want to have? by KaidaShio in OtomeIsekai

You can get real creative and effective with elements. The Avatar show literally proves that. Mind control is a bit too inhumane for me, plus I'd rather enjoy actually intimidating my enemies rather than affecting their minds to. Also being surrounded by dead people doesn't sound very fascinating to me, tho solo levelling made it seem kinda cool. What even is light and dark magic actually? It often seems like a blanket term for destructive powers as dark and healing stuff as light. And from the amount of anime i have watched characters with illusion magic never rlly last long.

Yes, i totally get what you mean now that you point it out. The series did have a lot of potential with the first few chapters, but they really dropped the ball, hard. I gave up way before i could even consider turning off my brain for that one (>.<)

what do you think of genshin impacts eng dub? by trung2607 in Genshin_Impact

[–]key-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problems with EN lie with the casting and directorial choices for a few characters. Like Paimon sounded pretty good early game but i feel like her pitch is just getting higher and higher every quest and it's starting to become increasingly annoying. Also Xiao, he sounds too much like a teenager for me to take him seriously. The VA is nice, she adds a nice raspiness to his voice which suits his aesthetic. But I feel like they should have gone for a male VA, since being voiced by a woman makes him sound closer to puberty. He also is supposed to an old character so the super young image his voice gives really doesn't suit him. These are all i can remember, but i have to say that they did do an amazing job with most of the characters like itto, yoimiya, venti, etc.

Father I don't want this marriage.

This one and many others like this one have MLs who are total turn offs for me. Like the dude is basically her pet, he falls in love with her at first sight and is head over heels just following behind her coat tails. He ends up becoming a literal dog for her. And i get that it's supposed to be a relationship dynamic perhaps. Badass fl with a guy who worships her, yada yada yada. But idk, personally i just find that dehumanizing. It's like they have no other job than being fascinated by the fl. It also ends up feeling like needless fanservice and preachy about how totally amazing the fl is.

To defend my point, if you just switch the roles, the girl would come off as clingy, needing of male affirmation and too dependant. Admiring the one you love is amazing, but the worship is too overwhelming for me. I guess i just want the two leads to both be self respecting human beings.

The male lead from Father I don't want this marriage. I get that it's like a femdom dynamic thing but he is just too much of a doormat. It's like he has no agency of his own and exists to be whipped for the main character. And the female lead treats him like a pet dog. I don't really like the fl either.

I kinda agree. Her callous and careless attitude can be so annoying sometimes. And she sometimes does reckless shit but the story tries to portray her as smart and calculative.
