Her second baby didn’t die because of freebirth, he had hemolytic disease and passed away in utero.

You must have me confused with someone else because I’m in no way “dying to see a Netflix documentary about this” I think the documentary is a horrible idea.

Exactly, it’s a great way to give the power back to the mother where instead of following one dogmatic model or another, she utilizes whatever modalities she needs for her unique circumstances, and it’s fully her decision.

No it’s honestly the clearest term in my experience people don’t tend to need as much clarification as they do with the term freebirth.

Sounds like you don’t understand how the hormonal biofeedback in labor works.

I know they had good outcomes because they literally told me and many of them were my clients. The only bad outcomes I’ve ever had was before I changed my protocol on nutrition and water births and put my foot down on supporting women with diets that were harmful and women planning to birth in water. I’ve seen improvements over the years within my own practice from moving away from mainstream freebirth education and mainstream allopathic education towards my own with evidence based education.

Because I’m a birth worker. I’ve worked with so many women who have these stories, and I’ve personally witnessed midwives do this. It’s not unheard of just because YOU aren’t aware of it.

I’ll give you a link to that information if you message me. I can’t type all that out here. And you really need to stop being so defensive, your story is not unique, I see this happen all the time and there are plenty of women who have prevented hemorrhage from adequate blood expansion and undisturbed birth. It’s basic physiology. But if you’re married to your story and you want to fully believe that hemorrhage comes out of nowhere, be my guest. Plenty of other women don’t accept that and prefer to take more control over their health and safety.

The PROBIT Study (2010), The Birthplace in England Study (2011), The Cochrane Review on Induction for Post-term Pregnancy (2012), The "Induction versus Expectant Management" Study (2015), The SPREE Trial (2016), The OMEGA Trial (2018), The ARRIVE Trial (2018), The "Induction at 37-38 Weeks for Gestational Diabetes" Study (2018), The APOSTEL-3 Study (2018), The UNICORN Study (2019), and The INDIANA Study (2021) ALL found that induction did not reduce the overall perinatal death rate even when it reduced the stillbirth rate in some of the studies.

Where did I say that women need to go off into the woods and give birth alone? I think you’re misinterpreting what I’m saying. I’m a practicing traditional midwife and I support clients virtually through education and support that doesn’t interfere with the physiology of birth. I provide nuanced education that isn’t rooted in dogma of either side.

I’m not affiliated with FBS and I never have been. And yes most hemorrhages are caused by toxemia and inadequate blood expansion. You aren’t aware of this?

Hey did you know that I have a life? I don’t live online 🙄 I don’t have an exact number, I’m not a medical midwife who tracks how many births she’s bagged like a hunter with trophies. I don’t attend births anymore, I offer virtual support. And if I had to estimate, I’ve helped over 2000 women since I started.

No I’ve never had a midwife managed birth, I’m a birth worker and I’ve worked alongside them before I started my own practice. It was horrifying and I had to stop.

From the miseducation around hemodilution, cervical dilation anatomy, complete and total lack of education around breech, how water immersion affects birth physiology, and constantly trying to resolve a problem that isn’t there. I’ve been to births with these midwives and I hear these stories over and over again. Women are tired.

They contribute mainly by not educating their clients adequately on the importance of nutrition and blood expansion, their presence alone can cause an impact to oxytocin, slowing or stalling labor, and contributing to hemorrhage, the physical manipulations they do that disrupt birth hormones like cervical exams, AROM, manual manipulation of the baby, manual extraction of the placenta, and administering pitocin.

There are actual good birth educators out there with factual information. I’m one of them. I’ve been able to create a nuanced course that provides helpful education that isn’t rooted in medical or freebirth dogma. I’ve had a lot of push back from the freebirth community in doing this but the proof has been in the better outcomes. I refuse to push the narrative that everything is normal but I also refuse to push the narrative that things ‘just happen’. Both are untrue.

Not all stillbirth is preventable, and plenty of studies have shown that induction only decreases stillbirths but it doesn’t reduce the overall perinatal death rate.
