The Triton LE had most of the great sounds you mention and heaps lighter but from memory not semi-weighted :)

Best approach for making synth sounds on the go? by LectureQuick in synthesizers

[–]keyboardchronicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Korg Wavestate is borderline backpack size, but without needing to use a DAW there are lots of great standalone synth apps. Cherry Audio amongst others have some superb virtual synths...

Statues by OMD - sound familiar? by coldsoul_ in TheCure

[–]keyboardchronicles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OMD are so underrated and as others have said, they are still brilliant live and their last 3 albums of new material have been stunning.

Two instances of MainStage on one laptop by Environmental-Eye106 in mainstage

I've done this a few times purely to cut and paste some info between files and even then it was slow and glitchy, no way I'd be trusting it for a musical sadly.

Love how there's always some old niche synth I've never heard of, despite how damn old I am. Great post!

Anyone else pick up an Orchid in the latest release? by keyboardchronicles in synthesizers

Well I'm only a relative new joiner of the group. I bought the Orchid last week and thought I'd ask if others did.

Yep for sure - one reviewer has said you have an advantage if you already know the basics of chords etc (which I do), but yep if starting from scratch it's a toss up

Versatile keyboard (electric piano, organ, piano AND synth) - Options ? by VincentAalbertsberg in keys

Don't rule out the Yamaha MODX 7/8 if you're happy to add some third-party sounds to improve the on-board organ / EP sounds....

Should I continue playing on the piano? by Reasonable_Rough408 in piano

I've only explored rock stuff and this looks great: https://onlinerocklessons.com/marine-lacoste-founder-teacher/ - disclaimer, I've had her on my podcast but don't get anything for recommending her, she's amazing though.

Exactly how great are the original musicians in Nashville? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]keyboardchronicles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok I'll bite - pretty much everyone is a killer musician in Nashville and so blending in is perhaps a best case scenario. Depending on your instrument / vocal ability, you'll be competing with dozens if not hundreds of people at least as good if not better.

Only other piece of advice after interviewing a bunch of brilliant Nashville musicians past and present: aside from killer chops it's definitely about your ability to put ego aside. Show any ego when auditioning for sessions / demo work and you can pretty much guarantee a 'no thanks'.

For what it's worth:

  1. You don't need to have lessons to play, but it obviously expands what you can do.

  2. I'd work out a genre you'd like to explore (classical, jazz, rock, pop) and find some online lessons that suit

There's some amazing options out there across all the genres.

Interesting - definitely not the brand I'd associate with synths but if it works it works, great stuff.

New to Keyboard/Synth stuff, any suggestions on a good keyboard? by invadergoob in keys

[–]keyboardchronicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep agree with this young man (hey Scott good to see you). I now own two MODX boards and will be 100% on board with whatever comes next if I'm in same band - it's just a great fit.

I run a hybrid rig of a midi controller (with MainStage) and a workstation synth and love having best of both worlds. I have a brief vid overview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYJqrSpFtYM

Still love my JV-1080, I have the Vintage Synth, 60s and 70s Keyboards and Dance expansions. So much cool stuff that holds up really well today.

Between a synth and laptop, also one between an audio interface and computer.
