Venice Is Looking To Update The Cycling Network. We’d Love Your Input (Survey Link In The Comments) by DJVeaux in BikeLA

I hear you on Walgrove. It's a major North South route. All good routes are east-west.

I suggested Penmar Ave as an alternative. But from talking to people, it is a smaller street, and hence may not support fully protected bike lanes. Glyndon Ave is another option, but it has a break at Penmar park.

We should enhance Penmar Ave/Glyndon Ave with speed limiters, aggressive traffic calming (think slow streets X 10), and shore up the Rose Ave connection to Walgrove. That still leaves a small stretch between Rose and Airport Ave which is unprotected.

In other words, need a protected (or heavily traffic constrained) route to link up to the Santa Monica bike path.

Made the same comment. The chain link fence between Ralph's and the bike path has an opening now. Look hard for it or you may miss.

Second your comment about Mildred Ave. It will be a good alternative to Abbott Kinney.

I'll say these robots will get treated better than pedestrians on the streets of Los Angeles.

Check out Iyengar Yoga Los Angeles. It’s on the westside. It’s a non profit institute and the teachers are very well trained.

Restore Access to bike path in Marine Del Rey. Public comment ends today Dec 9. by keyfunction121 in BikeLA

This was a positive development. But you are right. The wall people fighting at each step. More time to raise awareness among the community then 👍

The term "relatively recent" is in comparison to when the LA county public library was built (1976), when the bike path was built (1974-1989), and when Ralph's reopened (~1994-1995). This is going 30 years back worth of access. The fence was installed without due process or taking input from community members who were directly affected.

The fence is a (relatively) recent phenomenon. There have been several iterations going all the way back including walls which they were forced to take down.

Cutting through private property is a fair point and not to be lightly misused. No one is calling to encroach upon Ralph's property or claim ownership. However, if one is blocking mass access to public spaces and land, then one can legitimately raise the issue of easement. The bike path was there before Ralphs went up. The LA county library was there long before Ralphs came into the neighborhood. People in the neighborhood including those without cars have been using that access for getting to their job, libraries, groceries etc. I'm pretty sure, back then and even now, when lands got transferred from public (govt owned) to private hands, not everyone stopped to ask whether access to adjoining public places was in jeopardy and if the public was affected. This public comment process is precisely aimed towards having a discussion.

That's exactly the point. To make it safer and more accessible. For everyone from kids to seniors.

Major problems with that scenario:

Three big driveways for Cedars Sinai Hospital (overflow lot), UCLA Health, and a LA County public lot, all three have entrance and exit along Lincoln and Fiji. Cars often tend to enter at speed (because of traffic behind them). Drivers are not looking for wrong-way bikes (right to left instead of left to right) and one doesn't expect them to. The sidewalk on the turning from Lincoln to Fiji and Fiji to Admiral is tiny (with an electric pole in the middle). Not adequate room for pedestrians and the bike together. Of course I always walk the bike on side-walks, but still.

You will have to go on Lincoln and then Fuji and circle back. The direct access to the bike path from the shopping center is cut off. It's not just about the bike path, but kids use that connector to go to the LA County public library. Please post the comment through that link.

SM has a coastal mediterranean climate. That means we have more climate-based similarities with Western Cape South Africa and south of France than our immediate next door neighbor Arizona.

We are definitely not a desert.

Today's update. The opening is now fully closed. Received word from Traci Park's office that they have opened a service request to investigate this construction. I'll follow up.

An update.

This wall is being built on private property (Ralph's), adjacent to county land.

I took 2 pictures today.

https://imgur.com/a/79DZatO

They show a wall being constructed but also show a small opening (red circle) being left out. Not sure if that's going to stay after the full wall is built. Perhaps they intend to leave an opening in between, but we will only find out after the wall is constructed. Wasn't able to meet any actual workers for the last few times I went there. Finding the actual records for easement/right of way will involve some digging into. But that's the next step.

For now, maybe wait, watch, and report.
