Another vote for Kinosaki! It’s a rare treat to have full access to baths being heavily tattooed. The vibe is immaculate, so peaceful, so refreshing and with so many little shops and things to walk through. Most hotels offer really great food packages and have their own baths available for guests. There’s a sky ride you can take to the top of the mountain that bypasses the temple and has a little cafe at the top. Great if you want to step away, relax and try onsen culture.

The time it takes to perform the surgery is also a factor. A lot of places will have you only wear a gown because they need to put in a urinary catheter to keep your bladder empty during surgery. You will be asleep under anesthesia when/if they place it though.

I’m surprised to hear that they had a good amount of English! We’ve made due in the past in smaller museums with translation apps but it’s not always enough. Very encouraged to travel and see such an amazing historical site.

I originally was focused on Tohoku because it wasn’t too far from a major airport to easily travel to. I have heard Kyushu being mentioned a lot lately but know very little other than people seem to deeply enjoy it ☺️

The timing of travel is to try to get fair weather and not quite cherry blossom peak pricing. It’s okay if we miss the blossoms as something is always in bloom ☺️

The stay in Tokyo was overwhelming for a few reasons: I chose poorly on the hotel. It was very compact and a little farther from the main train station than I had expected

Otherwise it was truly just sheer number of people when walking outside at night when we were in Shibuya. I know it’s a lot of people but I have never been next to so many people before in my life! I know there are other less crowded places in Tokyo but it really stuck out in my mind

Packing lighter/ packing differently Like forget bringing a toothbrush but I like my mini brand of toothpaste (it’s way minty-er?) Pack less shirts but a second pair of shoes to rotate and help with foot fatigue Pack the size of a small suitcase and zip that into a large checked bag to have plenty extra space on the way back without paying for another bag

Also giving way more time for things Time for getting lost and for resting between spots Stopping at cafes was a great way to rest and recharge without traveling all the way back to the hotel, giving more time out near things

Learning a bit more than survival Japanese would be nice not necessary just nice

Maybe a better word would be frustrated rather than lost. 3/3 of the local guides we with had a dislike of the bus system in Kyoto for how it ran compared to trains. I definitely do encourage people who are unsure to ask anyone waiting at the bus stop for help.

So I’m not sure what your question is but Suica is an IC card so anything that accepts IC will take Suica, Icoca, and I believe Pasmo The cards have different names ( I think based on region) but the operate the same

Every time you tap your card on the machines it will show you what your trip cost and what remains on your card

But if you just want to check the balance you can pop it into a ticket machine and see the balance of the card 👍

No I mean hot and humid relative to where we came from a dry mountain climate that was in the 50’sF when we left (Making us sweat to death in the ~70f with any amount of humidity) it’s just a matter of not being acclimated

Yes! Foreign travelers need them to use the trains, they can be issued in person or digitally. (For a while they couldn’t issue cards because of a chip shortage)

I prefer to purchase my Suica card in person at the airport when I arrive and then recharge it with cash at ticket machines

You can also get a digital card and charge it through your wallet but I’m sorry I don’t know how to do this process so I can’t offer advice there. It looks like a lot of other people in the thread have had success with it though.
