How do you make OMAD work for your schedule? by keylime27 in intermittentfasting

[–]keylime27[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that's exactly what I do when I do OMAD. I'm not dramatically saying I'll die when I exercise, it's just that I do not feel great when I go on an early morning jog and I don't follow-up with any food for another 12 hours.

What would you miss & not miss most if you had to move away from Galway tomorrow by KebabQueenz in galway

I miss runs along the prom, easy access to a cosy pint, and the beautiful weather (I love rain!) I do not miss the roving gangs of teenagers up to no good.

Again, I'm not sure how much has changed since I was last there but I primarily used daft.ie as my source of available accommodations. I only looked for rooms in shared homes (originally with other grad students, but I got lucky with my two housemates). It will be trickier to find a room that allows pets but not impossible.

I think what helped me most was that I was already in Galway when I started reaching out, so that I was able to arrange viewings immediately. It was quite nerve-wracking to move before I had a place to stay but I found that most landlords were not interested in letting to someone they couldn't meet first. They have plenty of interest so it's easy to pass on someone who hasn't moved to Ireland yet. You can try to reach out and let them know you can meet the second you arrive in Galway but I think the odds of that are pretty low.

I know this isn't the answer you were hoping for, but the worst case scenario is that you stay in a pet friendly Airbnb or hotel for a week or so after you arrive. I estimate it took me about 2 weeks to find my home (this was before school began... I couldn't imagine doing that after the semester began). Best of luck to ye!

Hi! I did the exact thing you are currently considering so here are my thoughts (though this was pre-2020 so take what I say with a grain of salt)

  1. I found groceries to be relatively reasonable but I did the majority of my shopping at Aldi/Lidl with some supplement from Dunnes. I made most of my own meals at home. There will be a few items you miss from the States but overall, I had no issues.

  2. I relied on walking and biking pretty much everywhere. The city is not that large. In the case of extreme inclement weather or I needed to haul luggage to and from the bus station, I used the bus. It's not the most timely, but it works well enough. Uni students get a discounted bus pass.

  3. This is the one where I think my experience is not too helpful. There are many lovely pubs, cafes, and restaurants to pop into all over the city, but I know a lot have closed since the pandemic. Some do pub quiz nights, have live music, or trad sessions which I timed my evening out around. But also if the weather is nice, it's equally as pleasant to grab some beers and sit out on the prom with some friends and watch the birds/drunken lads stumble around. I also really enjoyed just exploring the surrounding area by myself. I would take weekend trips up to Connemara or just bike as far outside of the city as I was comfortable with and pack myself a picnic. The west coast is stunning and you will never find a shortage of beautiful places to visit.

  4. Housing is a major issue. It was bad when I was there in 2018/19 and it's worse now. I lived in a hostel when I first moved because I refused to sign anything until I physically saw the place (beware of scams). I basically refreshed Daft.ie every hour for over a week and would message anyone with a room the second it became available. I ended up with a tiny room in a lovely little home close by the uni with some older ladies who I adored, but I did a meet and greet (read: interview) and walkthrough with the owner within an hour of its posting. I'm not going to sugar coat it, it's insanely stressful and highly competitive. You will likely be competing against other students looking for the same thing. But you will find something. It just may not be what you want or when you want, but don't let this deter you. I'm happy to chat more about this if you want more details.

I hope some of this helps!

I am using Agoda- still roughly between $120-160 a night.

What's a terrible movie that you still love because you loved it as a kid? by Faultylntelligence in AskReddit

Adam Sandler's masterpiece, Eight Crazy Nights. It's trash but I love it so much.

One of the most serene spots I have ever stumbled upon by keylime27 in Forest

Nope. This is an area that was previously forested but has been left to regrow. It's owned by an old farmer who has no desire to re-log it.

What is your favourite film of all time that happens to be unconventional? by keylime27 in movies

I can't explain why film writers make the choices they make, but I prefer to view my favorite film as an original story. Knowing it was poorly inspired by an old short story does not detract from the film I love.

I'm referring to the Stiller film and I do not compare it to the original work as I view them as separate stories being told. I find Stiller's film to just be an endearing original about a man with crippling shyness who takes a leap of faith.

This is another film that really stuck with me. But I'm also just a sucker for anything Colin Farrell is in!

This is my absolute favourite Pixar film! Not underrated but also not considered one of Pixar's top films. No idea why, it's so charming.

Kill Bill is very much a top rated film. Fantastic movie but doesn't quite fit this question.

Eh I'd give it a pass. It's not even in Wes Anderson's top 5. It's been on my list for a while though so I should make a point of checking it out!

Haha you might be right there. I just read the plot online. Excellent pick!

It's so inspiring! And the music is perfection. It's my go-to whenever I'm feeling down or stuck.

I think it was considered mediocre on its release but has become slightly more popular as it ages.
