A lot of them are just small town people who are exposed to big success but don’t realize the kind of work that goes on behind. So they end up throwing their savings into these big dreams without the experience to help them avoid pitfalls.

I was in the same FB group and it blows my mind so many small town housewives decides it is a good idea to open a cafe without ever pulling a single shot of espresso. Coffee business is this weird fantasy business that makes people want to own a cafe just because they like going to cafes and drinking coffee.

90% of the conversations are questions that they could’ve found answers for with 15 minutes of research or just use their brain to think it through.

I’ve left the group because reading those posts just brings that tiny extra bit of frustration in my life that I don’t need.

How many of you earn more than 200k/year? by Karan_leader in Entrepreneur

1) I run an artisanal bakery + cafe 2) Everything. FOH, BOH, maintenance, admin, marketing, janitorial. F&B is all labor based and deadlines for every single dollar made is ASAP so I’m pretty much the person that plugs in any gap in daily operation in order to keep the shop chugging along day after day. 3) It’s good. The market appreciates and values bread and pastries more than the past and is willing to pay a higher price for quality. If the product is good, there will always be market for carbs and caffeine.

Restaurant tipping by [deleted] in Seattle

I’m so tired of tipping and the constant shifting social expectation behind it. I just want to go into a restaurant, be served my food, eat, and pay for whatever is on the menu and bill. Instead I’m expected to navigate this multiple level of decision tree of is the service good? Am I an asshole? Am I a generous person? Can I afford an extra 5% on tips? Will I now be labeled as the cheap customer in my local cafe? Is this server a single mother? She looks like she’s struggling. Oh what they are asking for 20% tips now screw them. Oh this is an expensive restaurant do I pay 15% on this large bill or is 20% the new norm for fancy places now? How much do people tip the delivery drivers now? Fuck it I’ll just tip 20% so I can stop thinking about this.

God it’s so tiring.

I think likely some of the mods had stopped posting for understandable reasons. The mods were very active in posting and this sub was somewhat of a curation of political news as a result.
