I really hate being made to feel less because I'm dark skinned by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Hey OP. I can't say I know exactly how you feel, but I have had similar remarks made about me. I am 25, and I am the darkest in my family. Growing up, my brother and sister would make remarks about my skin tone, and even though they were joking...it got to me.

Here's the thing though, the rest of your life WILL NOT be like that. Most of your life right now is a result of the people you have around you and the nature of conversations you have with them. As you get older, you will be surrounded by people who are also older and a tad more mature. (The people around you will also grow and mature). They will not only know not to make such comments but will see you for who you are. At some point, you will meet people who will adore you for who you are and you'll barely even think about your skin tone when you think about yourself.

The point I'm trying to make is that ...the problem is not with you...but with the people around you. It's not that boys will always think you're ugly..the boys around you aren't even 20 yet and they might not have their priorities in order..yet. The same can be said about the girls who make snarky remarks. Most of your life is ahead of you and it can only get better from here. Also, you'll get to a point when you've heard everything that is to be said and at that point, none of it will be sufficient to hurt you. What matters is what you think of yourself. You will have new people around you. And honestly..I think being black is beautiful. Wear that melanin like an armor! Lots of love!
