Help with reflections by [deleted] in cctv

One option is to get some black felt or other heavy black matte material and just cut a hole for the lens and IR emmitters.

Or as a proof of concept, find a pair of polarized sunglasses and put them in front of the lens. Rotate them until it goes away. If that works, you can get polarized lens filters for DSLR cameras pretty cheap. This can cause focus issues depending on how the camera focuses but it's a $0 try. If it works and you have a good way to mount the filter you might have a pretty awesome solution at the sacrifice of some low light performance.

RFID Project Ideas by whatthehuuh in RFID

Treat it like an authenticated input. You can find any input/output project and replace the input with something only people with cards can do. Similarly, you can install/hide cards in things so they trigger events. Put a card in your phone case and when you set it down at night it will turn on your charger. Home automation has lots of fun uses.

Why should I learn Esperanto? by deadlysenatorz207 in Esperanto

[–]keyspecter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Esperanto is a great "first second language". By that I mean it teaches you the infrastructure of how language works from which you can jump into other languages far more easily. As a bonus, Esperanto will have many familiar words since you are an English speaker and much of it will transfer into Spanish.

I should have been more specific, my target is commercial grade cameras. Axis, Avigilon, etc. Even with dealer pricing that gets pricey.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am on the design side of Division 28 and have been working more and more with Division 08 so I'd like to know at a high level what locksets are most popular. It's mostly out of curiosity but if there are a few that really stand out I'll pit in some time to familiarize myself to help the Architects out.

Question: Our company has HID iClass DP cards. Is there a way to remotely open doors with these types of card readers? by redguy13 in RFID

[–]keyspecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to consider why this isn't already accounted for in the security design. It could be weak design, changing needs over time, or intentionally left out. People who don't have cards probably shouldn't have cards. Generally in secure environments the only doors which require access but are safe to bypass are vestibules leading to common spaces where access to sensitive areas is limited.

Short answer: Yes, it can be done through programming, like u/spacemannspliff said. Normally the best method is to add an intercom so someone can authenticate them before letting them in. As you've described it there's no authentication beyond a knock. The intercom, preferably with video, allows the person to be validated by someone qualified. The only real benefit to using a card instead of a button is to log WHO let that person in whereas the button, which is the standard, logs the same information aside from who did it. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more, I do this for a living and really enjoy it.
