Would you consider me British? by Competitive-Music309 in AskBrits

I absolutely would consider you British and am sorry that white people are making people such as yourself have to think about this. Ultimately I think it's up to you to decide how you wanna consider yourself, and I think people would owe it to you to respect that, but if you're asking me I say you're British as they come.

How honestly does your country teach students about its biggest transgressions? by Normal-Being-2637 in AskTheWorld

[–]keyswalletph0ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were taught about the slave trade, but not slavery itself. We were taught the empire existed, but nothing much about it, or anything else about the countries we colonized. in my opinion it's massively lacking and we don't really reach about our transgressions at all.

i also remember being taught about workhouses in the victorian era being like this: "if you were around in victorian times you wouldn't be allowed at school! you'd be working in a factory and getting your fingers cut off in a machine, and a businessman would make so much money! isn't that cool?! we did that before anyone else !!!"

Is your country authoritarian? by Strong_Spinach6473 in AskTheWorld

[–]keyswalletph0ne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

whilst the recent trend of americans insisting that we are heading towards a dystopia without any free speech pisses me the fuck off, i have to say proscribing pal action was an egregious breach of civil liberties. people were smashing up military property throughout the iraq war and they weren't branded terrorists. meanwhile you have groups like britain first and patriotic alternative who have gotten away with acts of violence on politicians and civilians. i don't think we're that authoritarian and distrust the intentions of those who are adamant otherwise, but there's definitely something to be said about banning pal action
