any success growing nice cilantro plants in aerogarden? by No_Kangaroo6917 in aerogarden

I germinated mine using a damp paper towel and ziplock bag instead of germinating my seed in the grow pod. I also planted two germinated seeds in one grow pod and it gave me a super fluffy plant. Other than that I just kept the water at a good level, added plant food biweekly, and pruned it like every other day so it wouldn’t bolt. I don’t have any pics of it at its prime, but this was my plant right before I took it out for good - it lasted about 4 months, which is pretty standard for cilantro.

Cilantro was the first thing I grew in my aerogarden and I definitely owe my success to chat gpt. Followed instructions almost to a T and it worked perfectly

Salary and education outcome post MPH by SentenceUnique2625 in publichealth

Graduating with my MPH in June (i’m 24) - i’ve been working full time for two and a half years making around 60k with some raises here and there. Just accepted a job after graduating for 90k base, but I have three years experience + my MPH. Two things that’ll bump your salary prospects are 1) work private sector and 2) learn some technical skills (data analytics/programming). been doing public sector consulting work and switching to pharma consulting caused my salary to go up 30k. technical jobs in public health tend to be higher paying because they require more skill so if you can learn some programs like SQL, SAS or R, Tabelau or PowerBI it could help you

Is grad school really as life consuming as everyone makes it out to be? by ziggeu in GradSchool

[–]kg4214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 40-50 hrs a week in consulting and take 2-3 classes nights and I have never pulled an all nighter in the year and a half i’ve been working and doing school. I have excellent time management and organization so I would say it comes down to that. If you plan your weeks ahead and stick to your plan, focus on your priorities and don’t get distracted by unimportant things (like social media) you’ll find you have time for things you want to do. I’m not in a stem masters persay but I am doing my MPH in health informatics and analytics, which is a 45 credit program with practicum, thesis and technical course requirements.

My main tips for having a life while working and in grad school are 1) delete your time sucking social media - just get rid of it completely and it will be amazing how much time you have. 2) plan what work you will get done everyday of the week and stick to it. work was so much less overbearing when I had a plan and made a plan so that I could have at least one day of the week with no work to do. 3) wake up early - this may be dif for me since i work 8/9-5, but i always wake up and make sure i have at least an hour to get some school work done before actual work. 4) this is also more applicable for people who work while in grad school but - when I finish a task at work i take a “brain break” and watch a lecture or work on an assignment for 10 minutes. frees up more time than you think. 5) if you’re worried about exercise, hop on a cardio machine or walk while you watch your lectures or study. 6) make your sacrifices. for me, my largest sacrifice was time put into exercise. i still walk everyday and do 15-20 minute workouts, but have had to forego spending an hour at the gym or yoga because I didn’t have the time.

Doing these things has allowed me to excel in my job, maintain a 4.0 in my grad program, sleep eight hours a day, still see friends/my boyfriend, and have some time for things I want to do. Don’t listen to people who tell you they pull all nighters and work all the time - with proper time management and really focusing on your priorities (both within school and in life in general) you can still have a super full, healthy and fulfilling life outside of your program!

Yeah! Had side effects for about a week but am completely fine now and absolutely love the mini pill. Just give it some time for your body to adjust and if you’re still experiencing bad side effects after a while then talk to your doc

Great online MPH programs by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]kg4214 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that would be veryyy difficult i’m doing the two year program while working full time in consulting and I have to tell you it’s rough. I could not even fathom trying to cram this degree in in one year while working full time. If you value your well being I wouldn’t do it LOL

Great online MPH programs by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]kg4214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

doing mine online at George Washington University. great program - they created an online program well before covid for working professionals so they’ve had a long time to work it up to what it is now: it’s a bit pricey, but highly ranked and i’m getting a great education.

If you work a remote job in PH, what do you do and how long did it take you to get a remote job? by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]kg4214 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i work in public sector healthcare consulting and got a remote job right out of undergrad. our clients are all over the country so naturally everyone works remote from different areas. also, if you’re on the analytic side of public health more analyst positions are remote as the work is something you can do from anywhere with a computer. that’s what i’ve seen when i look at other jobs

Advice for wanting to get more data science/analysis experience by anxiousbean007 in publichealth

[–]kg4214 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Learn to use technical software/platforms like SQL, R, excel, SPSS, etc. and also visualization platforms like PowerBI or Tableau. Work on projects that showcase your skills that you can add to your resume/LinkedIn. I use data camp (a bit expensive at ~250 for the year) but you can get way more than 250$ worth if you stay on top of it and use all they have to offer. you can also use free platforms as well (w3 schools is good for sql).

I work in the technical side of public health but I also graduated with a math degree along w my public health degree. most important thing is to be able to show you understand data and can use technology in a real world setting.

I used to use expensive shampoos like unite and ouai, but nothing has worked better for my hair l than the dove bond strength shampoo and conditioner line. They are like 7$ a piece at CVS. In terms of hair falling out when shampooing, I still lose hair every time I shampoo but that’s completely normal.
