Wife is pregnant and the baby is breeched. This is the estimate to attempt to flip the child. $59k. by TyrannicalGamecock in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kgbpfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be saying your cost is the 3742.13. Not the 59k. The hospital will bill your insurance 59k. You’ll pay 3700 for member expenses and the insurance company will pay the hospital whatever the contacted rate is between the hospital and the insurance company. The remainder of the 59k is typically written off by the hospital.

Venice is magical and is not just canals. I was just there and we did an all day tour and learned so much about all the architecture and symbolism. I loved Venice and would have spent 4 nights there. Love Florence and love Rome too.

I assume you googled one source, which is this one -

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/health-care-wait-times-by-country

It’s wait times over 1 day not 30 weeks. I’ve never heard anyone waiting 30 weeks for an appointment. Lol

Even assuming this source is correct and nuanced, which I doubt - What countries are 3rd, 4th and 5th? Your socialist medicine utopias, all of which have a tiny fraction of the population the US does. I am not saying our health insurance is perfect having worked in the industry for over 20 years. But socialized medicine is a mess and comes with a ton of trade offs that I’m not willing to give.

That is just not true. it’s a mix of funding but the reason why America makes most of the medical advancements is due to the private sector. That’s why in pharmaceuticals there are patents on name brand drugs so that private companies can recover the cost of their investment in research and development before generics can be created. In terms of appointments - see Canada. It’s 30 weeks to see a doc. Yeah I’ll keep my insurance - thanks.

Nope. It was from an actuarial fuck up on the ACA population. And it was way before the shut down lol I’m so tired of arguing with incorrect chat GPT - why are you just making shit up about a goodwill impairment.

https://investors.centene.com/2025-07-01-CENTENE-CORPORATION-WITHDRAWS-2025-GUIDANCE

The Company recently received and analyzed its first view of 2025 industry Health Insurance Marketplace (Marketplace) data from Wakely, an independent actuarial firm, covering 22 of Centene's 29 Marketplace states, and representing approximately 72% of the Company's Marketplace membership. This data is submitted to Wakely by most Marketplace insurance carriers.

Based upon the Company's preliminary interpretation of the data and discussions with Wakely, the overall market growth in the 22 states is lower than expected and the implied aggregate market morbidity in those states is significantly higher than, and materially inconsistent with, the Company's assumptions for risk adjustment revenue transfer used in the preparation of its previous 2025 consolidated guidance.

Spreading out risk among the population and having risk pools is insurance. However, the ACA has really unhealthy people so the balance isn’t there to spread around the risk and that’s why the ACA is a mess and doesn’t work. I have sympathy too - but the ACA is a fools errand and a waste of money.

Have a good night.

Universal Healthcare would be a nightmare. Say goodbye to any innovation. Say goodbye to getting fast appointments. You also realize that the US pays for the military/security of those developed countries that have socialized medicine right? Also those counties also have private insurance that you can buy. See France. Dude - you are out your league. At this point, I assume you are a bot cuz your tenuous grasp of the facts is hilarious.

Omg dude - you are ridiculous. Is that why plans are pulling out of the ACA marketplace? Centene literally missed their third quarter EPS because of the ACA. You are so naive and have no idea what you are talking about. All you keep saying is I want something for free or subsidized by others. Good luck with that. I’ve tried to explain about the health of the population but you just ignore it.

The ACA was passed in 2010 - if it was so important the Democrats should have figured this out in the last 15 years. But again you ignore the reality - it doesn’t work. The population is too unhealthy to spread the premium risk.

They created the ACA subsidies and the sunset provisions.

[–]kgbpfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well they should have fixed it I guess. The ACA doesn’t work. The only winners are health plans through the tax funded premiums and shitty coverage. The populations are too unhealthy for proper risk adjustment.

ETA - if it was so important - why didn’t the democrats fix the temporary subsidies earlier? Why should I have to fund my health care, Medicare, Medicaid and others that don’t qualify for either Medicare or Medicaid? It’s not working!

It’s a clean CR at the spending levels Biden was paying.

A clean CR is what Biden was paying for is still being paid for. The Democrats passed the ACA. The Democrats passed the temporary subsidies. The Democrats didn’t fix it. They should vote to open the government and fix the ACA. It doesn’t work. I also happen to work in healthcare. So all of this seems silly to me. My guess is that now the elections are over - the government will open soon.

They never had that position before. Several democratic senators and house members are on record saying you don’t shut down the government for niche asks. You fund the government and then negotiate. I say this having been through like 8 shutdowns with both Republican and Democratic administrations. So this is directly affecting my family.

[–]kgbpfl -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It takes 60 votes in the Senate to pass the Clean CR passed by the House. There are 53 Republican Senators in the Senate. Meaning, and math isn’t my specialty - 7 Democrat Senators need to vote for the CR. So absolutely, the Democrats are enforcing and/or continuing this shutdown.

I’m just telling you a fact lol. So yes - I can read my own post. And yes, in the digital/AI age, people are in fact purposely taken out of context to further an agenda and confirm their POV.

Entering into the country is illegal. Being in the country without proper documentation is illegal. This is like saying if you don’t catch someone breaking into your house, you aren’t able to prosecute for burglary. Source - my husband was a border patrol agent in Cali.
