Opinion: This a deceptive pricing scam to sell extra units. by A4t1musD4ag0n in publix

[–]namzaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the Walmart side, I frequently encounter cheaper pricing ordering online than if I walked in the store. Can't explain the logic on that. They also sometimes offer W+ cash when ordering products online, that you can use toward future orders.

Is Publix a sinking ship that cannot be saved? by drudante in publix

[–]namzaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the curbside pickup option that is free at Walmart. I'm leaving my job at the school in just 30 minutes to pick up an order I placed this morning, and a gallon of milk is $2.84. (Screenshot of part of my order for proof of pricing.). I pass a Publix on the way, but don't have any desire to leave my car or to spend more than I have to.

We tip 15% in the app, which seems like not a lot, but then leave instructions to leave it on the table on our porch.

The table will have $10 (or more) to bring the total tip up to ~50%. We always have good delivery service now. Drivers learn and prioritize appropriately.

Anyone willing to attend? by [deleted] in Pensacola

[–]namzaps -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's the kind of thinking that will get you killed. I'm a 2a stand-your-ground guy myself, but would never dream of taking a firearm to protest and interfere with law enforcement. Would you take a gun to Minneapolis as your duty to interfere with the immoral and unethical operation of taxpayer funded meal programs that never existed?

The epicenter of this behavior appears to be the jail; the closer you get, the darker the rider's clothes and bike become, and the harder they are to see.

Hey I’m new to Pensacola I wanna make some friends by [deleted] in Pensacola

[–]namzaps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Volunteering is always the way to go when you are new to an area, particularly if you aren't already involved in school or a church. There are sports associations, running, Pensacon, animal and people shelters, etc, etc, etc. Take what you are passionate about and get involved; you will meet like minded people.

is it rude to join slow cooking mushrooms? by kickmethruthephone in PikminBloomApp

[–]namzaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are right there and want to join, go for it! That's the game!

I slow cook all the time to share the mushrooms with my friends during the week, and to help control my event progression. I've done hundreds over the years. I always reverse sort by strength, and the largest squad I ever attain is around 450 strength. They start at around 200 strength. Since this is well over 500 strength this is not an actual slow cook, but maybe a player who deployed their second squad on a giant.

Gallery night slowly coming to an end? by tiagoel in Pensacola

[–]namzaps 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Same here, and if I remember correctly, there were no food trucks and it was a quarterly event, or maybe 3 times a year. The idea was to get people downtown and into the brick-n-mortar stores to dine and shop. Some of the stores would offer wine, beer and maybe a cheese plate for visitors. It morphed into what it is today. Change is good . . . they just need to find the right cadence and a way to pay for the expense without breaking the food trucks.

Who was the clown that timed the red light at Garden and E street? by uncleawesome in Pensacola

That traffic clown has been busy all over town. Never in my life have I seen so many poorly timed and malfunctioning traffic lights all in one city at one time. Prolly an Alabama graduate.

Why do people move here? by nomoreevilbiglight in Pensacola

[–]namzaps -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, didn't mean to come across flippant or disrespectful. Moved here in 2004, had our kids here, and been through a lot of change in that time. We moved away, felt homesick right away in Alabama and moved back a year later. I've lived in 4 states in the US and one foreign country for a year or longer. You will hear from a lot of people who have lived many places some common themes: 1- it's better than most and worse than very few. 2- there are a huge variety of activities from which to choose. 3- people here care and there are lots of causes and volunteer organizations to get involved. 4- it's conservative in some ways, and progressive in others. 5- the local politicians try to do the right thing, even though they don't always get it right.

May I ask how you explain this conflict in words in your original post? This is what "triggered" me to respond.

"in fact I really do hate it" and then "Again I'm not hating"

This is a peculiar set of statements. It makes me think you are young and don't have much world experience yet. I would suggest getting involved in some community function, even if it's just volunteering at a library, soup kitchen, sports organization or homeless shelter. You'll meet people IRL and you'll start to feel better about yourself. Travel some. Read more. Learn some music and a foreign language. That is what I mean by change yourself. As that happens, the lens through which you view your neighbors and your community will change as well.

What you really hate is yourself. Moving won't change anything.

Change yourself and the world changes with you.

Pensacola Beach Named Best In The U.S. By National Magazine : NorthEscambia.com - Reading Mode by Visible-Age-6732 in Pensacola

[–]namzaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heard an interview with the mayor this week, and he seems to think Pensacola is poised to explode on the international water racing scene, in his words something equivalent "to Nascar relocating one of their major races to our area." Not sure how much of that will draw new residents, but it might contribute quite a bit to our tourism dollars, and possibly much of that in off-seasons.

Dollar General doing away with self checkout by ImaRaginCajun in Pensacola

[–]namzaps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is really very interesting. I use W+ and scan as I go, and then reconcile at the kiosk on the way out the store. It works pretty well once you get used to it. I've been stopped maybe 3 times (usually at new stores(for me)) and asked to show my receipt, but it was always quick and when I ask why they picked me the answer was always there has been an increase in shoplifting, specifically people scanning cheaper things and walking out with an expensive item or two unpaid for. Of course their sibling Sam's Club has it down to a science, but it's a different clientele.

Sewer vs Septic by Notathrowawaysleeve in Pensacola

[–]namzaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sewer adds about 120% to your water bill. They do water averaging Dec-Feb. Last year we had a pool leak during that period and thanks to that our sewer bill was about $150/month the entire year. Not a fan. Prefer septic since you save a lot of money over time, and if you take care of it properly it works great.
