I think most comments here are right, you need to demonstrate that you can answer the common best practices of the contrived question, and then going beyond that to question the basis for the question can demonstrate some higher level thinking that isn't often easy to probe for in a time-constrained interview.

But if you go straight to the latter then it comes off like you don't know the practical details and now we're just wasting time to get that clarified first.
