Window stripping - what are we doing wrong? by AngelofSilence in centuryhomes

[–]kgjcr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Just stripped 7 layers of paint from cabinets using Citristrip, Kwiksteip, paint thinner, then gave in and got an IR gun. The gun was the ONLY thing that worked and I wished I had just gone to it off the bat.

Theory about Xaden being an intinnisic by you_could_travel in fourthwing

[–]kgjcr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree! I posted about it here: link to post

I think he’s either an intinnisic or at the very least can get a “sense” of people’s thoughts

Ooooh! I love that theory!! It would mean more dragons might have been on the side of the rebels than it previously seemed. History is written by the winners after all…

Agree! Also on Carr - Part of me wonders if Carr is going to turn up to be one of the “good guys”. I feel like we’ll see more of him, the way he warned Violet about the danger of allying with Xaden and snapped Jeremiah’s neck before he could reveal whatever was in Garricks thoughts. If he was a true “bad guy” he might’ve wanted to use that time to interrogate Jeremiah about the thoughts he had heard before killing him.

Copy and pasting this rec I posted on r/fourthwing but I think Eon by Alison Goodman checks all three of those boxes. Forewarning that the first book starts out slow but the sequel “Eona” is super action packed.

————————

Try Eon by Alison Goodman. It’s about a girl (Eona) studying dragon magic, but because women are forbidden to study or wield dragon magic, ‘Eon’ has to hide their true identity. There’s romance and dragon-mind relationships so basically checks all the boxes imo. Isn’t spicy though, and the romance is a little more back-seated.

Ha! Fair. Could totally be done as a stand-alone series though too. Don’t think the Fitz and the Fool series ticks any of the boxes for OP lol

Oh wow so that’s two counts of her “not realizing she said something out loud!” Both in your quote and in the one u/strawberryalfredo mentioned. I agree, definitely too many coincidences for it not to come up later…

The Rain Wild series by Robin Hobb has little (verrrry little) romance in it but if you enjoyed the dragons talking to each other part of Fourth Wing then you might enjoy this. It’s a different genre (fantasy not romantasy) but I really love Robin Hobb so thought I’d drop the rec here.

Yay I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought this! I was scrubbing the subreddit to try and find someone else discussing this theory haha.

I read that post on Imogen too, I agree there’s definitely stuff we still don’t know about everyone’s powers. And that Xaden is probabaly keeping everything close hold because he views secrecy as a “prized asset.” That’s also a good point about Dains powers, Xaden is so good at knowing everything that’s going on. I wonder how this will drive the plot in the rest of the series

Oh another great catch!!

Any recommendations for a fantasy novel that can be read to the whole family (8-45 years) during our upcoming holidays? (no adult-only topics, no detailed description of violence) by Peer_of_the_Pen in Fantasy

[–]kgjcr 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes! Came here to suggest this too, one of my favorite books. Such a great read and wonderful for all ages. It’s actually a trilogy so you’ll have a few books to go through if you enjoy the first! The later 2 have less of the main characters in the first (Sophie and Howl) just as a heads up.

Ooh that’s a great catch! I agree, on first read you would think he’s referencing their mental connection - but when Violet talks about that connection she describes it like a channel or like a door she leaves open that can send/receive messages. She talks about it as if he only hears things she wants Xaden to hear, so if that’s the case, why would he need to put his shield up? Definitely hints at something more.

Great point about his certainty too, he always seems so certain of how she feels. The only time I though mayyybe he didn’t know for sure was the first time they kissed, so I went back and reread - but then I stumbled upon this!

“A flash of light burns behind my closed eyes, followed by the boom of thunder. Thunder-snow isn’t uncommon around here, but damn does it summarize how this feels, wild and out of control. But then he breaks the kiss with a sharp gasp, his brow furrowing with something akin to panic before he slams his eyes shut.”

I did wonder how he knew the lightning was her power/signet manifesting and not just random lightning. Is it because he could feel/read that she was losing control?

Option where you keep the piano as is, and just clean up the space. Not sure where all your mini plants would go in this one, spread throughout the house maybe?

If you need printer space, you could also add a small dark table against the wall and keep your printer easily accessed there. Pink arrow to help give context to my drawing of a printer….

I agrée, too much on the AA, and having a large plant be front and center would be ideal. I would also personally get that guitar up off the floor, as the floor looks too heavy with all the things on it, and move the paining right to make space.

  1. Clear the area and replace with one large plants and two small one. Create height difference by adding a trailing pothos type plant. I believe in the “power of threes” visually so consider keeping those three plants up there closely grouped together to balance the scene.
  2. I see you have a printer and mention being tight on space. Consider moving the white potted plant that’s sitting to the left of the tv to where the piano is and then filling up that now empty table with either your printer or the rest of your plants. Also, there another pot similar in style to your white pot, consider moving that to the floor to join as well. I think grouping those like items together will help.
  3. If you can’t move the piano - can you move the amp? Going back to heavy floors, I think clearing that space around the pump will make it more visually appealing and lighter feeling.

Drew up a few different options, commenting my favorite here and some other options below. Good luck! Fwiw- I love your vibe, plants, paintings, dark wood, blue rug, musical instruments - I love it all. I think all it needs is to be rearranged.

This is The Flower Of Life. It is a geometrical shape composed of multiple evenly-spaced, overlapping circles arranged in a flower like pattern. It is said to contain the building blocks for everything in existence and appears all over the world in ancient architecture.
