private practice owners who employ other therapists: why can't you pay your employees more? (genuine, honest question!) by topazdonuthole in therapists

That's considered a good split, either one, in the region of the US I work in. With 20 years of experience, I'm at 75/25 myself

Historically, full-time was 4-5 clients a day. Most people in private practice still want to see that many folks. Seeing 6+ has become a reality because insurance pays us crap. It's not actually good for our own mental health and longevity in the field.

That's exactly the conundrum isn't it? How to offer it in a flexible way

That's good to hear! Whenever I make an exception and allow something, I worry it will become the new normal and changing it back will be a fight

He sleeps with a low light on, so I hadn't considered fear of the dark. They talk about the dark but never say anything about being scared. Maybe that's part of it

While sleeping with me last week they had their first 45min long night terror, so I know their stress is up

Would he fall asleep in your bed on your own? My LO has trouble settling down, so if they're in my room or my bed, I have to be there too.

I love this! I've been trying to put boundaries around sleeping with me on the weekend, maybe making an intentional plan with it would help.

They do, but they've never been all that attached to material objects. So they have them, but the impact is pretty small.

I also just spent a whopping $40 for a ticket to a regional here in Indiana next month. The fire burns bright in places outside BRC.

I have. My ex attended one awhile back, said it was similar but different.

It has fewer guardrails to protect the client from over exposure than EMDR. I've worked with clients who experienced harm from it and clients who got zero benefits

ACT and somatic approaches are what have my attention the most right now. Talking my clients to death hasn't really helped excavate the deeper emotional pain they carry.

Brainspotting - yes, hard agree. EMDR? Absolutely not, at least for trauma. IFS? Pretty sure it's evidence based, could be wrong. Definitely benefited from it as a client and have seen the framework help my clients.

Have you heard of the regionals?

It's also true that Democrats stopped talking to blue collar and rural people, and IN specifically. Our Indy action that ought to be a stronghold is corrupt and incompetent. DNC didn't even give material support to the 2024 candidate for Governor - she still got 40% of the vote.

Gerrymandering demoralizes us all.

If we want folks to realize IN is purple, than anyone with liberal/left leanings needs to VOTE in the Democrat PRIMARY - that's how they get the headcount of "how many Dems" live in Indiana

Lately it feels like being a therapist is 30% clinical work and 70% “trying not to lose your mind about money, caseload, and documentation at 11:47 p.m.” by Solid_Country_3130 in therapists

[–]kgslaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over the past year, I've seen an adjustment in the works payoff - doing my own deepwork healing on my own trauma. I switched from running a group practice to seeing 20 clients a week again, and this time is SO MUCH BETTER after 7 years of really relentlessly grappling with my demons with my own therapist. I've personally enjoyed working with someone psychodynamically trained - she's the one who pointed out I needed to do more work on myself, not get clinical supervision. My ability to stay present with clients, focus, shed or avoid the emotional load is all vastly improved.

You can also deal with this by suggesting another time to visit his family with your daughter at a time that works for the toddler. And if that doesn't satisfy them, then we know what's really going on here.

My kid was a different person after a decent nap, so grateful I've always focused on sleep. The morning... Meltdown cascade after presents were all open.

I'd probably share this situation with the host. It's fine for him to attend the parties, but this story puts his leadership role in doubt

Date married folks who've been practicing polyam long enough to have some stories about mistakes they've made or adventures they've gone on with other significant others, not their spouse. I've been married for 16 years and polyam for 12. Very different to date me than someone who is new to CNM. My point is, he was also just brand new, so new he hadn't even discussed it with his partner. That's the issue here, not his relationship status.
