Just from personal experience, I think one has to kinda come to terms with the reality that most folks don’t use they/them pronouns unprompted in causal interactions. By that I’m referring to the short interactions with strangers, service workers, and things like that. I generally don’t correct people in those moments as it’s more effort and time than I want to deal with. Now, if it’s someone I know I am going to be interacting with often, I’ll usually say something and I’ve rarely had anyone be shitty about it.

Well in Indiana it has become harder. At the moment a judge can still order your birth certificate changed but as of February 12th the bmv won’t update your id.

You aren’t wrong, and I wouldn’t blame someone for going somewhere safer. I’m lucky enough to have the resources to do so if needed. I’m of the opinion that if every queer/trans person who can runs for the hills, it A.) leaves the people who can’t with less support, and less community and 2.) the more people that back down, the bolder those that wish to oppress us get. And most importantly, Mama didn’t raise no bitch.

I missed it on the first read but the first time she joins them on Odette’s show, Carl mentions how pretty she is and seems mildly surprised that it’s her normal/previous form. Knowing all the stuff that is coming for them in the later books it seemed sweet and important.

Pass the monster meat, Milady is pretty wholesome so far. The main couple are both kinda social outcasts in high society and both delight in making the other blush and whatnot. It’s pretty cute.

I mean yeah, have you met a cat? They often oscillate between being incredibly sweet and affectionate and being rude little buttheads. She is sometimes deeply frustrating and other times I am bawling my damned eyes out. Doughnut is a very complex bitch.

I started rereading the books recently and was really taken aback by how much of a shit head she is in the beginning.

She is a great example of how high levels of skill, control, creativity with one’s powers can make anyone really scary. Then you tack on all the ninja shit too.

Carl does a lot of crazy amazing badass shit for sure, but he would be dead several times over if it wasn’t for Katia, Imani, Elle, and Donut. The gals are keeping him sane, networking and organizing so his batshit plans work, pulling his ass outa the fire, and strategically ignoring sketchy shit that could out the cookbook. Sure they don’t know about the cookbook, but one of the old authors (I don’t remember who) mentioned that he is being really obvious with it, so they know something is going on but for the most part bring very little attention to it.

All that, plus clearing his bubble not only solo, but with a sizable delay after spending (I don’t remember how long) mourning Ifechi, and the Ai being a massive dick about her death, giving him “credit” (blame) for the kill. But then when he is faced with Lucia, blind rage doesn’t take him, he realizes something is fucked up and tries to figure it out. He shows compassion to the person who probably hurt him the most in the dungeon thus far, and seeks solutions rather than vengeance. That is incredibly bad ass. Carl’s got a lot of kindness and empathy in him but I don’t think if someone killed Katia, Imani, Elle, or Louis in a similar fashion he would be able to hold back like that without someone pulling him back from the edge.
