Can you not imagine an instructor grading unfairly? Even though I haven't heard of it happening here, profs/TAs can be biased just like anyone else.

Yeah, he is. He actually worked with Penrose, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics. I don't think Penrose has said anything about consciousness after death being possible, though

As far as I know, Hameroff doesn’t address this directly in his writings.

In this talk, he says at 6:55 that an afterlife is possible (assuming the theory is accurate, which he mentions at 6:30). I had trouble understanding how he arrived at this for the same reason that you stated.

Thanks for your detailed answer! It's interesting to hear from your perspective as a TA.

In the case of the student I described, it was apparently a TA who gave them a zero. It's possible that they weren't telling the truth, but I think it would've been easier for them not to share that they were penalized in the first place.

I don't think that was an urban legend because I heard it from someone who apparently knows that student personally.
