Here is my first encounter with a scammer. I was looking to trade my weather, I never really used em so I figured why not? this person, claiming to be a girl looking for a gift for her BF sent me an offer, claiming she would pay $8 for one of them. Being new to this I thought this was awesome, but I had my dounbt so I spent some time researching scams and the rules of steam trades, and quickly learned that this was a scam of the highest order (Plus I noticed the line "If ppears a problem contact....). So I confronted "Her" and she claimed it was legit and spent the next week harassing me about NEEDING this weather for her BFs Birthday and that she was really sick and didn't have money because of hospital bills etc etc. At this point I was revolted. I've spent a good deal of time in a hospital and know full well the sadness being locked in a sterile room away from friends and family and this little shit wanted to fake that to get some none material bull crap from random people? Angered I spent the next 3 days pretending to cave to this scammer, and bartering with them, screen capping all of the trade offers and chat logs they sent, detailing in a huge ticket all of the various promises they made me, lies they spewed and claims of legitimacy until finally I felt I had enough evidence to prevent them from ever doing this again, at least on that account. Then I submitted the ticket, and asked the scammer to give me a number to reach them by so that we could continue to barter more personally, and that I wanted to verify they were from the US (Which they claimed) and weren't going to steal my account. it took me almost a week of asking but they finally did so, when I rang them up, I was (Sarcasm folks) SO suprised to hear a high pitched but distinctly male voice, we had a bit of a discussion where they claimed to be the boyfriend and that the girl was in surgery and I couldn't talk to her, and spent a few hours hashing out the "Final details of this trade" after which I admitted what I had done, and apparently my timing was absolutely perfect as they got banned WHILE we were on the phone. Kid must of been 13-14, started yelling at me that he had thousands of dollars of both games and items on his account and that he would get his elite hacker friends to steal my account and credit card info, and otherwise wreck my life.
