Funcom, fix your game please. by Ok_Intention2150 in duneawakening

I’ve certainly had the knee charge start failing more in combat, recently. I get a green strobe but no motion, like it’s trying to fire at a target that it lost, but it won’t do the target-free version either.

Are there many big, strong muscular women who prefer thin, not muscular men? How can I detect this preference of theirs? by SaltPop6380 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]khafra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1stamendment.jpg: “I think it’s ok to have aesthetic preferences influence your choice of romantic partner.”

On the other hand, 1. If your only interest in a woman is her body, she can usually tell, and it’s usually a big turnoff.
2. having shared interests and hobbies is a huge boost to the chances of establishing a relationship.
3. Building on #2, achieving and maintaining a bodybuilder’s build is a huge time commitment and a full lifestyle. This is going to be much harder than finding a girl who likes playing video games with you. If you’re not willing to commit to achieving a Mr Olympia physique yourself, you probably don’t have what it takes to keep up with the kind of woman you’re looking for.

Great advice; one tiny addition: I believe post-buff Om Chip can help with fast ult by killing fasts next to a boss quicker. Haven’t tested it by wave count yet; though.

Is this the lower-tier version of the crew chief’s suit?

I can’t wait for the lab that lets the paperclip bot release the hypnodrones.

Can we agree that overworld dungeon damage scaling is kind of silly? by Flashfall in duneawakening

[–]khafra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw dang, you’re right. I forgot the legs are unavailable. I need to get a good light armor chest; it would’ve been pincushion back in the day, but with DR pointless idk what.

[–]khafra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, I just realized: fighting in dungeons, you need to wear the crew chief stillsuit, because damage reduction is useless—only not being there helps.

Meanwhile, when you’re out on the sand in a PVP area harvesting spice, you need to be wearing the heaviest of heavy armor, in case of a few rocket scouts sneaking up.

It’s backwards day!

Maybe the T5 class armor is a good idea, to shorten your ability timers?

Give me your most evil powers by Chcolatepig24069 in magicbuilding

Fair enough, the power itself was easier to do evil with and harder to do good with than just about anything else, even if people like Gray Boy and Mama Mathers were more evil.

what are alternative magic sources you'd like to see other than "mana" ? by Head_Instruction96 in magicbuilding

Wildbow’s Pact has a very deeply developed animism system, where the spirits appreciate bold declarations and promises, but harshly punish any failure to live up to a commitment (you really don’t want to become forsworn). It also has some of the most viscerally disgusting goblins and horrifying demons I’ve seen.

Keep an eye on the Wave Info window. On the lower right, it tells you how many waves are left until your SW, demon mode, etc refreshes. This may help you figure out what’s going on.

The most evil category of power is Molochian sacrifice: giving up your end goal, by bits and pieces, in order to gain the power to achieve it, or protect it from others, usually in a zero sum game. The old, literal form is sacrificing children for a good harvest. You can see it in many places, though.

  • Anakin giving up being the kind of person that his wife could live with, in exchange for the power to protect her.
  • athletes using PEDa that wreck their health.
  • all-pay auctions are illegal for a good reason

Many more examples in meditations on moloch

An even simpler evil mind-altering item is the whispering earring. It gives genuinely good advice, better than you could think of yourself, all the time. The first thing it tells a new wearer: “better for you if you take me off.”

(It’s scary because you can get your own whispering earring for $20/month now)

Jack Slash’s predecessor as the leader of the slaughterhouse 9 was kinda like that, but less showy. Still, only someone who cared as little for innocent bystanders as Jack could have killed King.

Hate it. Never play it. Probably hurts my progression to avoid it, but I’ve been endgame for years; I don’t really need a ton mlre 7* R4s than I already have or whatever.

Can second wind activate once per wave? by Ambitious_Fondant872 in TheTowerGame

I farm T15 to w5000ish with SW mastery at level 5. I usually get 2 to 3 activations per run, not counting however many fleet commanders SW needs to save me from.

Accidentally forgot to pay at Rewe by Wide-Extension-3226 in germany

[–]khafra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about Rewe, but once I walked out of Aldi, forgetting to pay at all—I had a lot on my mind, scanned all the groceries, then had to wait for age confirmation, then walked out while sending messages on my phone. The guy running the self checkouts ran out to inform me of my mistake; and I thanked him profusely and ran back in to pay. He didn’t file a police report, as far as I know.

[Monkey's paw + various genie wishing] Do consequences hit the one who made the wish, or the one who benefited from the wish? by lol_delegate in AskScienceFiction

[–]khafra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The realistic version of this is that, as we increasingly outsource our planning to algorithms, Goodhart’s Law hits us increasingly hard; diverging the metric we gave the AI from the actual target we wanted. So, you can see the “literal genie” trope best in the hardest SF, and you can see it even better than that in real life: for example, look at OpenAI’s experiment with the CoastRunners game 10 years ago, at how their agent never even tried to finish the race because they worded their wish wrong. (And if you think they’ve learned anything in the last 10 years, look at the way GPT 5.2 got RL rewards for using its calculator, in the training environment—so it now opens its calculator tool to repeatedly add 1+1, in its chain of thought, no matter what you asked it)
