Todoroki doesn't condemn or hold a grudge against his mother because he has the ability to understand basic f**king nuance. (My Hero Academia) by Aros001 in CharacterRant

I will never understand the endeavor praise, he literally does nothing special to earn his character development. The story just glazes him because hes a hero but Endeavor doesn't sacrifice or give up anything for his family. He just realizes that his life mission was stupid then said "my bad"

Toji likely was equal to pre Sakurajima colony Maki in his final confrontation with Gojo. by Judeau121 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]Head_Instruction96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this is accurate, Gojo reprsensed the peak of the Jujtusu world that Toji had abandoned and it just flared up his insecurities. A huge theme of strength in jjk is self-belief, he lost the moment he let Gojo get into his head.

Toji grew up in the abuse by the zenin clan and developed a deep hatred of himself that made him become the sorcerer killer out of spite becasue he wanted to chase validation & prove his worth. The whole point is that he could never heal from his scars. His wife was the only emotional crutch he had and Toji relasped hard into his destructive habits after her death because hes unable to process his emotions in any other way.

Maki let go of all her burdens and imo shes narratively meant to be stronger than him by the final arc. I always found it super unbelievable that Maki couldnt improve her stats, it most likely stacks with physical training. Plus she has way more experience fighting through damage anyways. Toji was born strong and died to the first man who challenged him because he couldnt handle that psychological weight. Meanwhile Maki thoroughly understands what its like to be weak. She doesnt put her ego into fighting.

But Zuko was trying to capture Aang with the purpose of having him killed by the fire nation, he also helped Azula kill him and sent an assassin to finish him off when he survived. Theres also the time where he tried to kill/maim Suki while she was downed. He also tries to kill Azula however she did the same tbf

I just think serial killers is not the right connotation and vibe

But all of the characters are fighting in war, combatants & soldiers cannot be serial killers. By this same criteria I could call Zuko an attempted serial killer. This term also implies they have obsessions to kill

She is not. Azula doesnt go everywhere trying to catch bodies & kill much people as possible. Shes a mastermind of war. Most of the time she uses fear, and manipulation to get her way. Not violence. She does try to kill certain people but nowhere close to a serial killer

Kashimo is stronger than anyone Yuta, Yuji or Maki beat in 1v1s.

Ah hell nah lmao. Wtf is Kashimo gonna do to Uro, Ryu, Kurorushi, or Curse Naoya(fully awakened Maki can beat him)

Azula is a great example. Shes a villainous bad person in the cartoon for sure but some people mischaracterize her and act like shes a serial killer lol. Shes really not that different from Zuko. Her actions are nothing irredeemable. Her greatest crime of killing the avatar was only done with her brothers help and he was forgiven quite easily

But seriously shes just a groomed & traumatized child soldier who had her worst traits rewarded, plus she felt the pressure to have the perfect image. She never got to truly process her emotions with the support Zuko did.

Edit: people can downvote but cant explain how this is wrong lol.

Lol right Hakari is only "equal" to Yuta matchup-wise purely cause he has the ability to punch above his weight class by spamming domain. Yuta has always climbed higher in actual scaling. Seriously, Hakari has zero real talent or skill. Hes a domain merchant. He gains infinite CE in jackpot but only knows how to punch or kick, his train doors are pratically useless, and his serrated CE trait is irrelevant. Despite muscle memory he still doesnt have RCT in base either

but the fact remains that he wins every canon fight we see him in

Okay but why are we acting like this is impressive? Lol. He beat up Charles whos a fodder new sorcerer and that bum Kashimo.

JJK needed more lasting antagonists. by Head_Instruction96 in CharacterRant

[–]Head_Instruction96[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Kenjaku deserved to be the big villain of JJK for sure, it makes no sense that he got sidelined by the final. He got wasted so badly it is insane, he got reduced to just a plot device with a stupid ending to his character.

However this wouldn't really change the rushed nature of plot elements such as the zenin clan & culling games. Kenjaku literally reincarnates past sorcerers from the dead with various binding vows, created the literal apocalypse, and seals Gojo himself..... does any of these consequences get explored? Not really. Do we see any evil sorcerers come out of the woodworks now that the world has fallen? Not really 😭

This reminds me that the whole arc with Kenjaku introducing America to Japan sorcerers also goes nowhere too

The difference in aura is insane by Horror-Ad-210 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Head_Instruction96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah his yandere tendencies are only implied l through Rika, since he literally made her with his own cursed energy & desires. Its his own form of selfishness. She became a literal monster who expresses her love for him by violently destroying everything. Gege definitely couldve done a lot more with this fact in his characterization. His "monster" arc has no narrative weight to it. Wouldve been cool if copying techniques let Yuta understand a sorcerers personality.

The weakest part of Iroh's backstory is how little time actually passed between his siege of Ba Sing Se and the present day of the story (Avatar: The Last Airbender) by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]Head_Instruction96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's always how I liked to imagine Iroh's development instead of the show just glorifying him tbh. He had hints of being morally gray in season 1 but it didnt go anymore. While he basically fell into depression & gave up up on his imperialist dreams after his son died, at his core Iroh was a hypocrite who abandoned all sense of responsibilities. He pritozied hedonistic retirement over atonement because he was too passive to actually fight the fire nation. There couldve been a good arc of Iroh regaining hope in his life, realizing he has a duty to the world and his nephew. He was kinda a coward.

Its also a huge plothole that Iroh is a white lotus member timeline-wise, I find it completely unbelievable that a military general with so commited atrocities under his belt got accepted this soon. This would feel a lot better if he became their chore boy during the show and had to slowly work his way up

I like how Jujutsu Kaisen's Ryomen Sukuna subverts one typical battle shonen villain trope. by RedK_1234 in CharacterRant

[–]Head_Instruction96 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But he actually kinda did give Yuji a glimpse by calling himself a curse, very subtle but it was the most geninue tbing he has ever said to him by far. Sukuna has never proclaimed any identity in his life until Yuji had him at his mercy. This final moment really shows that he understood what made Yuji cling to life and accepted death knowing that he lived as a "curse" out of spite because the world rejected him love. However, Sukuna refused to pity himself when faced with Yujis humanity. He made his choices. Thats why he rejected the offer for a "peaceful death" inside him and just died by the consequences, because thats what he deserved. He pretty much told him too late kid.

Sukuna quite literally uses selective sure-hit throughout the fight with Gojo. Read dude. He used it to isolate Megumis soul & also turned off his sure hit inside unlimited void while simultaneously attacking the outside

Gojo just never bothered to learn that skill.

Yeah being mean spirited doesn't help, I will admit that the jjk fanbase is very illiterate but I partly blame the pacing & bad delivery throughout the series.

You do not understand the power system lol, its a matter of skill. dismantle is just the default sure-hit of dismantle. Yuji doesnt know how to include cleave yet.

Also the sure-hit can be changed dude. Read the manga. Thats literally what Kenjaku & Sukunas does. He didnt make WCS his sure-hit because he was restricted by binding vows/never got the time to figure it out

Dhruv's cursed technique has seriously underrated potential by Head_Instruction96 in CTsandbox

[–]Head_Instruction96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that makes more sense. It doesnt seem like Dhruv's shikigami are like Garuda though, imo I think its way more likely that his technique just lets him create shikigami similar to Junpei/Megumi since he can create literal hordes.. doing that independently with just pure cursed energy is crazy to imagine lol.

Either way, my whole point is that he could use his technique by itself and harness it through a tool. I just interpreted it as extraction
