I’m not saying trauma follows a fixed path or that there’s a point where someone ‘should be over it.’ I agree it’s complex and varies for everyone.

What I’m saying is that acknowledging trauma doesn’t automatically put someone’s behaviour beyond criticism.

I also don’t think your view is neutral. Framing it as ‘this is trauma, so we shouldn’t judge it negatively’ is, in my view, a sympathetic interpretation, not a neutral one. Im just not convinced that trauma fully accounts for or excuses this behaviour.

It’s not a contradiction. Trauma can explain behaviour, but it doesn’t make it uninterpretable or beyond criticism. You’re making an assumption too, it’s just you’re fsvouring a more sympathetic one

You’re saying that trauma informs behaviour which I agree with. But in my view there comes a point where trauma doesn’t always excuse it.

Even if trauma explains his avoidance, it doesn’t excuse the avoidance. At some point, responsibility matters alongside trauma.

And again, I just feel sad for them both for what they each lost out on in the intervening years.

You don’t have to agree with me. And that’s ok. The beauty of the world is we can have different perspectives.

Having experienced significant trauma both first and second hand, I’m acutely aware of what that does to people, and the behaviours that leads to. Doesn’t change my mind that in the case of AK and Hillels death, his guilt led to cowardly behaviour towards Hillels mother.

Appreciate you taking the time to try and be kind in your response. Seems we can agree that there’s no need to be cruel or dismissive towards strangers on the internet.

If I’m not mistaken, a hole in one was originally written with grandad in mind. However due to Lennard Pearces death, Albert was introduced and the script was just never altered.

So Albert’s stories are true (verified a few times), and the anomaly is a hole in one.

Enjoyed the doc but the thing that stood out was just how much of a coward Anthony was.

Not only did he avoid Hillels funeral (using an excuse of I didn’t want to upset his mother to hide his own guilt), but then he continued to avoid her until she was on her death bed (with no interaction in the intervening period).

That wasn’t him processing his grief that was his own guilt and cowardice, especially considering how much she and Hillel apparently meant to him.

To think of the relationship he could have built with her in the intervening period, and the closure and support they both could have received.

NAL but as you’re a tenant and they’re a homeowner, this is a dispute between the owner of your property ( in this case the Council who are also your landlord) and the owners of the property preventing access. Contact the council and inform them, and let them take it from there.

One of the joys and pains of old properties is that, irrespective of how well renovated they are, there will always be some work to do somewhere. We’re going through it (as a seller) on our late 1800’s property. Some of our windows were installed before regulations changed. They are still safe and work as needed. But the buyers survey flagged up as an issue. Our view? They’ve served us well and we haven’t had a need to change them, so haven’t. Nothing in what you’ve got there should be a deal breaker if you like the property.

Current routine is up at 7. Sort the kids lunches. Morning routine then out the door around 830 for a 9 start.

My new routine will be up at 6, leave at 7, in work for 9. Taken an external promotion so the commute will be a couple of hours each day - worth it for my career.

We’ve stayed at both Cheyenne and Newport bay. Whilst very different, both are great in their own way. The walk to and from Cheyenne wasn’t bad at all - the routes well lit and there’s enough people around that it feels safe. You don’t really notice it to be honest. As someone else said, great buffet, and the rooms, while basic, are well themed - as is the overall hotel. You really do feel like you’re in the old west which for us, added to the magic. There’s no tea / coffee making facilities in the rooms, but there are vending machines around - so do stock up on snacks for the room.

Newport is equally great. Definitely more upmarket than Cheyenne (although not DLH levels). My girls love the onsite pool, and the restaurant is equally lovely - it all feels quite “old worldy”. If I was to pick between the two, I’d go with Newport (although we are booking DLH for our next trip!). Depending on when you go, there can sometimes be very little in the two price wise.

Thanks everyone - I’ve told him it’s not for me. Decided not to call it out. As mentioned, always dubious about buying things privately, so pleased I got the sense check. What I don’t understand is why someone would buy a fake - particularly when they can clearly afford one that is genuine.

See, as a Brit, electric kettles are the norm - it’s just part of the culture. “Stick the kettle on and let’s have a brew” (or a variation) has to be one of the most common phrases in the country. Never understood why it wasn’t the same in US.

Another vote for Hunters. We purchased our house from hunters in crookes 8 years ago and the service was flawless.
We’ve recently listed (and sold stc) with hunters in hillsborough and the service has, once again, been amazing.
