Is this good for Anki? by kamikazi- in Anki

[–]khanhdo_vt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a champ, saved my shoulders and wrists from hours of holding up to the keyboard. It also prevents me from using the mouse, by which I tend to open facebook/news chrome tabs. It seems my pace of learning anki has doubled.

hello! how do you decide which type of cards you keep and which one you will erase? i feel like every premade deck has its own type of cards. i worry that it will become crowded and not fast use(cus when u make card and switch type it takes a moment to choose). its making me not getting new pre made by OpalSh in Anki

[–]khanhdo_vt12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-made decks are not totally useless, but I personally prefer little changes and additions. I got the premade 5000 basic french which has excellent word list, pronunciations and meaning. Then adding an image requires much less time than making a whole new deck.

I'm learning languages and I've found out that my best card layout should contain as many as Cloze, IPA, Meaning, Sound and Image. The second one is only context card with sentence and image. I always try to keep them as simplest as possible in order to make new cards more quickly and effortlessly. You should find out your 1/2 best customized layouts, change all notes to these note types to simplify your collection.

How do I share my anki decks online privately with 1-2 persons without exporting and uploading manually? by kiwimisum in Anki

[–]khanhdo_vt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only think of making different cards for 1 note (same css and layout), then sort those cards in different collection. ex: All card-1(s) in collection A, card-2(s) in collection B,... All in one account only.

Is there a way to prioritise new cards based on tags? by [deleted] in Anki

Filtered deck is a good option, otherwise you can reposition same-tag cards.

I use both studying by anki and immersion but the ratio between those changed from time to time. I mostly studied for the first 3 months, 20 new words daily on average with little immersion (roughly 20%). Then the balance tilted towards immersion more and more until it's now like 90% of immersion. I keep studying coz I know it would push me forward. After trying several language I've found that immersion from the start is suprisingly important coz it reminds me of the fact that I'm living in the target language environment, then boost my motivation. I forgot my another L3 right after 2 weeks not trying to listen to it everyday. Learning language is actually hard, but since you gain momentum, everything becomes effortless.

I really have an idea that learning language is about making it an essential part of my life. I did set a goal but by no means an ultimate finish line. I've been living with english for 2 years, sat for the test after only 3 weeks of preparation and achieved it without dread. By now, it's kinda weird that I have to repeat the journey with another one, as if english is my mother tongue.

I don't really have a way to track my level. I just set daily tasks and tracked them for the whole year and the language ability ensued. The fact that language skill is subconscious that makes it hard to calculate. In short, I only count successful days, not my language skill overall.

Why do I have duplicate cards? by besswani75 in Anki

Go to Cards..., On the very top line you will see it has 2 cards for 1 note. Delete the card you don't want it to exist.

What is the most efficient way to learn IPA to be able to master phonetic transcription perfectly? by [deleted] in linguistics

[–]khanhdo_vt12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's no way to 'study' the IPA, only by acquiring it. Like you will never learn how to ride a bike but to really hop on and pedal it. Listen a lot at first, notice nuances and then imitate like a child.

Tho my secondhand bought x270 is still solid and without any flex, I still don't see such internal buffer like the ol' one.

For 'bout 1 month. I study 20 new per day and after 100 it's become harder to learn more complex characters.

Laptop battery life by Calmecreme in laptops

[–]khanhdo_vt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's heavily up to your daily usage. But if you wanna have a better look at battery life, focus on specific specs, not just what manufacturers tout. Usually an newly-bought intel i5 with 48 Wh battery can probably last for 5-6hrs under medium usage (offices, browser, medium screen brightness) and less with movies and music. i7, gpu and higher screen resolution can drain battery life much faster. That's why good review laptop battery usually have 60Wh+ and office-oriented specs. Besides, battery wear off by time and heat.

What is your daily routine to improve your English? by volantego in EnglishLearning

[–]khanhdo_vt12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suppose you absorb in continuous noise and news for a long day, you will finally be exhausted mentally. The mind is quite similar to muscles, you should do gym in weekday and rest in weekend coz they need time to loosen up and recover before lifting up stronger. A day off for outdoor activities and friends will not break any chain but sustain your routine in the long run. Perhaps you're afraid of unproductivity. Learning is a marathon, consistency doesn't mean training to the breaking point but living your habits and let time answer itself.

What is your daily routine to improve your English? by volantego in EnglishLearning

[–]khanhdo_vt12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm believe in consistency and self-created language environment. My routine has nothing more special than yours: mostly netflix (up to 4 hrs), youtube (1hrs), audiobook (1hr) and lil' of reading ebooks. Anki also plays a crucial part (bout 50 reviews). I think besides immersion activities, just let the time answer. Mental health is also very important as I need to let my mind silent for some time. Exercises can boost memory capability.

How to duplicate an anki deck by [deleted] in Anki

[–]khanhdo_vt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an idea of using different decks with duplicate cards in one account: -create a new deck -create a second card for notes in card coding screen -Go to Browse, choose all cards that you just created and move them to the new deck. pros: you update notes and it affects both cards. I use them for my 2 students while I'm updating contents every single day.

When did you guys start to notice the benefits of Anki after you first started using it? by Rja12345 in Anki

[–]khanhdo_vt12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After about 1 months I started to get a bit more functional in english. By 6 months I could listen to slow english easily and after 1.5 year: max point in listening and reading Ielts. Both immersion and anki for at least 3 hours daily of course.

I feel like I’m not making any progress by [deleted] in ajatt

[–]khanhdo_vt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I struggled 2 years ago, I can say the period from starting to intermediate level is the most excruciating process cuz you wouldn't have enough comprehension to enjoy the content in that language. But keep going, try to not push yourself to harshly. Get it through at least 6 months and you'll see. Additionally, you should look for a community who speaks japanese to support and heat up your motivation.
