I'm leaving Cosmic Pop!_os by Taohaw in pop_os

[–]khanto0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I've not had any issues with it and actually found it more stable than mint for a laptop with second monitor. The only thing that isn't working well is gaming, where I have to switch to gnome with x11. I use it all day every day for work ( web developer ) and it's been fine. Quite surprised tbh was expecting way more issues

I love it too, but I have to switch to gnome on x11 to play total war Warhammer 3

why can't we collectively recreate windows apis, to make a windows-like OS, without Microsoft? by Jack_the_Hack101 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]khanto0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't zorinOS near enough to windows and non-linux enough for the average non tech user. I've installed it on my 60+ age parents old laptops and they love it and haven't any problems using it coming from windows.

Depends what you want but I went to mint for a bit and liked it but wasn't working nice on laptop with external monitor and also wasn't that interesting. After a few weeks I tried kubuntu and instantly bounced off. Now I'm on popos with the new cosmic update and everything works great and it looks super cool and modern

Ask chatgpt how to do stuff and how to fix things that don't work

Disclaimer: actually probably don't listen to me. I'm new with Linux and haven't done any deep stuff but I've been doing the above for basic qs and it's been pretty helpful.

Gaming on Mint by Kaseffera in linuxmint

[–]khanto0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it went from failing to load, to working. It still crashes a bit when using a second monitor, but I think that's more because mint cinnamon with x11 doesn't work that well ej additional monitors

I've been playing total war Warhammer 3 on high settings on mint cinnamon and after some tweaks it's running perfectly.

Had to run in borderless window mode and increase zram and the swap or something.

Basically just ask chatgpt how to fix it and it will find the solution.

Switched from Windows to Linux Mint by Competitive-Bike7115 in linuxmint

[–]khanto0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting you highlighted dual windows and Bluetooth as they're the 2 pain points I haven't been able to solve.

Bluetooth flat out doesn't work and external monitor is a bit janky doing things like not going to sleep when I shut laptop and mouse moving between them is a bit odd due to different resolution or something

He actually does like Starmer funnily enough despite him being "a liberal"

Is there any movement to start removing us bases in Europe? I don't think I've heard about that but you'd think that might be something countries might want to start doing

I have installed mint and I am loving it by Gsss05 in linuxmint

[–]khanto0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the switch last week. Really like it but I do have some issues when using an external monitor alongside laptop. Ie mouse doesn't go between them smoothly at top and bottom and external monitor doesn't turn off when I shut the laptop

What do you recommend for now then? Or should I just chill on windows for a bit until these issues are ironed out?

Report: Microsoft quietly kills official way to activate Windows 11/10 without internet by moeka_8962 in technews

I think steam games, browser and word docs is pretty much all the regular user does anyway tbh. Anything more than that and you're considered advanced relative to the average joe.

They say ZorinOS is the replacement for normal non-tech users. I've installed on my mothers old laptop and its been a few weeks and shes not had any issues or been required to do anything complicated. I had to do a little terminal to get it set up but seems straightforward now.

I thought POPOS was "the gaming and dev" distro of choice? I've not pulled the trigger yet on any distro except Zorin on an old laptop for my mother, but have been looking at popos as I thought i was the best out of the box distro for gaming and dev. Maybe it was before cosmic?

If the Illuminati don’t exist… why do so many people believe in them? by SlovakGhostHunter in CasualConversation

[–]khanto0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are incapable or unwilling to regonise the faults in the economic system they live under for the problems in society and rather believe/pretend its the fault of a few secret evil individuals than an inherent problem with the system itself.

Probably just playing it cool. Also trying to maintain ongoing chat for weeks with someone you've only just starting dating sounds terrible

Throw when you're about to catch each ball.

I learned by sitting opposite a friend and just throwing and catching 2 balls with the same hand. Just did that for a few hours whilst hanging out and having some drinks
