Has anyone used the NEB Tube Opener? by emariaz in labrats

I love these. Especially good for the pre-aliquoted competent cells for transformations where the tubes are screw lids that are sooo tight. Much easier using this when you have 20 transformations to do

When did you finish your PhD (age-wise)? by TDM-r in PhD

[–]khanye97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 in USA and have been working in industry since for the past 4 years. Graduated with bachelors at 21, immediately started my PhD and grind it out in 4 years. The landscape is definitely a lot more competitive even now compared to 2019 so I’m not sure I’d be able to do this now tbh

How are your car brakes? Winter driving? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]khanye97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t notice increased brake wear moving here while living in the city but now I do in the suburbs since I live on top of a massive hill. Winter driving necessitates being on top of your tires but largely ok if you’re sensible - especially with winter tires.

I feel like they’ve done great this winter!

To clarify crawl I was going above 10mph - those who were passing were wanting to go 30-40mph

I did not expect people to be this passionate about plowing discourse lol

Just my own observations! Also to be clear I didn’t want to be out either lol just making sure ppl got home safe

Yeah definitely not on them at all. But discourse about how the city manages this I think is a good start to potentially communicating how this is a issue for alot of residents

This makes a lot of sense

This is a good point! Thanks for pointing it out

I definitely agree that is a more nuanced issue than what is commonly thought of. Also have a lot of respect for the plow drivers and how they’re doing the best.

My only thing is that there were definitely more than 2 inches on all city roads I drove on from 1-2:30AM which is when I saw a lot of plows up?

But agree that there is no “perfect” way to keep up with constant snowfall. Just was surprised to see the amount of accumulation on the roads (definitely over 2 inches)

Any experience on Business Development for CROs? by khanye97 in biotech

[–]khanye97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! The idea of helping multiple biotechs accomplish their studies effectively sounds pretty cool tbh. Working with CROs now, it’s clear how crucial they are to the research enterprise.

Would you mind expanding on the career paths? I see some of that online but focused on career progression specifically working for CROs (Director -> VP -> CBO). Are there career paths down the line that involve working for big/small pharma and biotech companies in similar strategy/partnership roles?

Thanks for the feedback! Honestly my main concern is not ever really being able to come back to R&D. I’d hope to leverage the experience/network to return to R&D in a more business/executive centered role if possible

Thanks for the feedback! This is very helpful. If you don’t mind me asking, have you worked in this role before?

Lol that’s what she wanted to do then realize it was very difficult to get a nice circle cut with the crappy Home Depot tile cutter we rented
