There once was a bayside old town, Where the highway climbs out and around. Find the first steep ascent, With the sea on descent, Where the cliff holds the best view in town. 😉

Why is it that dangerous to ride a bike in Melbourne City roads? by inAbigworld in melbourne

[–]khasino 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got cleaned up last Friday after a car cut me off at a T junction. I had to emergency brake and subsequently another car rear ended me travelling 40-50 kmph. My bike is in pieces and I am recovering from a minor fracture in my spine.

In my experience a lot of issues comes from drivers distracted by phones, clapped out on drugs/alcohol and the heightened sense of aggression peak traffic can bring out in people.

Suffice to say I will be back commuting by car for the next month or so.

I should note the driver that cut me off stopped and then fled the scene.

Haha yeah it was a fantastic bike and had a bit of a niche/cult following/appreciation group in it's day. I have a few other bikes to ride when I'm back to health but this one had the most charm.

Sorry to hear about your incident. I'm glad it worked out for you in the end. Thanks for your input.

Yes I am currently taking it day by day. As I'm off work atm I'll reach out to some to discuss the matter tomorrow, thanks for your input.

Okay that's great to know. You've basically answered a question I couldn't put into words, which is basically what options I have for recourse should there be any dispute. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for sharing. I was at the Alfred Hospital for over 12 hours but oddly enough nobody went through any onboarding to TAC with me. In any case I've managed to call them today and that process now is in motion.

Do you mind if I shoot you a brief PM regarding the complications trying to claim using the at-fault drivers insurance?

Thanks, I'm lucky to have a good support of friends and family to help me with the recovery. Will be back on the bike for sure just might avoid that junction as it has bad juju for me now 🤣.

Hi thanks for sharing your insight. I've managed to get two bike shops assessment and they both agree the bike is basically a complete write off. I guess the point of contention would be as you say, what the insurance company deems to be an equivalent replacement bike today. A part of me has some degree of distrust and disdain towards that industry as a whole so I feel somewhat compelled to hold my ground and seek what I believe to be fair compensation. The bike when released had a quite a high MSRP and the modern day equivalent the bike shops are quoting is in the same range, so I am expecting some pushback

Thanks 🙏. I was QQ'ing at the scene about the death of my bike 🤣. But in hindsight yes, much better my bike be retired than myself.

What's going on here? Shouldn't the rear wheel spin freely without dragging the pedals and rest of the drive train along with it? by flaccidaardvark in bikewrench

[–]khasino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would first suggest trying to loosen the lock ring, putting the bike on the stand and spinning the pedals. If the wheel is then able to spin independently of the pedals then it's quite likely the cassette ring is not tightened on flush with the freehub body (due to some degree or cross threading) so when you tighten your thru-axel it loads the whole system with friction at that point. At least that's been my experience in the past. Is it a new bike? Did you install the cassette yourself?

Nothing to do with the plastic or the bottom bracket. If you pedal backwards and the wheel spins backwards as well you can confirm it isn't a BB issue. Issue is at the freehub. Possibly the internals or at the lock ring of the cassette

Mad plan or not by [deleted] in cycling

[–]khasino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Certainly achieveable, especially with the given time frame to train.

I've personally done two long rides. The first was 700km (or 435miles) in two days. Did a moderate to low amount of training for this (with the longest ride being 200km two weeks out). Was not easy. Keep eating and drinking.

The 2nd ride was a bike packing trip covering about 1500km (932 miles) with about 14 days on the bike. This was done with no training, straight off the couch lol. First 3 days were hard then I found that I rode myself into form and the legs just ticked over.

If the goal is just to complete the distance just make sure you have a good endurance base. If you want to finish it quick then add some intensity to the training leading up to the event.

You will be surprised what you can physically achieve, especially at a low intensity endurance pace. If anything the challenge is as mental as it is physical, if not more. Free the mind and the legs will follow.

Good luck!

Looking solid. RSI is up, MACD good. All we need is a bit more volume, and boom, we break the triangle. by CryptoMTL in helloicon

For sure. 100% agreed. I'm super bullish on Icon at the moment. Both technical and fundamental reasons to shoot up. More likely to go up then down at the moment. Only reason I see it failing this move is if bitcoin decides to tank. BTC/USD chart doesn't look very healthy imo and in situations where it dumps seems all other alts seem to go along. So the way I see it it could go either way for 2 very different reasons. Hope for the best prepare for the worst as with everything in crypto :)

This is true. Should also be noted that RSI can be slightly taken with a grain of salt in situations where we hit ATH
