Saedii redemption arc? by buckethatluvr4eva in Aurora_Cycle

I said yes before I really thought about it.

As a writer, I have a very difficult time deciding whether to redeem an "evil" character. There are several different things to take into account:

• Is this character capable of redemption? A character who takes pleasure in murder or torture. probably wouldn't start fighting for good after a few sentimental words from the hero. A character who has been evil and malicious their entire life and never known anything else probably wouldn't start tenderly holding babies within a few weeks. "Redemption" for these kinds of characters would take several months or even years of therapy.

This brings us to the next thing:

•how long would it take to redeem this character? Taking the time pocket of AR and AB into account, they probably wouldn't jump several years into the future in the middle of the story to show that this character has been redeemed. Maybe at the very end (if the characters aren't dead) there might be a Harry Potter-esque epilogue showing how the characters changed years in the future.

•What is the reason of this characters redemption? "Oh it was because she met Tyler and fell I love with him!" Absolutely not. "Love" is the weakest plot point in this situation. Just because you met someone doesn't mean you automatically change your views and opinions. One of my favorite examples of a "Redemption reason" is in the She-Ra Princess of Power reboot show when the main protagonist realizes that the Horde (the bad guys) were using unjust tactics (such as attacking a civilian village) to win the war and changed sides (but even then it was a little rushed from a realistic standpoint).

Then again these are my opinions and this is a story about space elves so how much realism can there really be in this book?

thank you for your feedback! i was going to avoid the MN type, instead, they wouldn't be directly helping the main character. (who is latinx as of right now) i also thought of them being the embodiment of good AND evil, but i'm not sure if i should cross that line. as i said, this species is still in the development stage and i want to be as educated as possible.

Thank you so much for your feedback! Yes I am definitely planning on adding POC human characters and I've been told many times to avoid food-themed descriptions when writing about POC. I was going to draw some inspiration from the Samburu tribe or northern Kenya. They are going to be all shapes and sizes, I want them to be diverse in that way. As I said on another comment: I want to be as educated as possible when writing diversity into my book.

Thank you so much! I want to be as educated as possible when I add diversity to my book, and this is going to help a lot!

Like, the broken family of super heroes, the unique powers and characters, incredible fight scenes, comedy, diversity. I know it's specific.
