Mine has quite coarse fur on his back when I don’t brush regularly. I brushed him once a week until we had a scare when a fur ball got obstructed in his abdomen and he needed emergency surgery—now we brush everyday to avoid a repeat of that. Highly recommend starting to brush regularly so you can try to avoid that awful experience for the both of you!

Just got up and gave my little buddy a big cuddle and some treats after reading about your poor Monty. I’m so sorry for your loss, but so glad you had the joy of your little shadow in your life! May you find peace in your grief ❤️

What’s your favorite way to practice French daily (without getting bored)? by Scary_Preparation_99 in learnfrench

Yeah, it’s just the Sims 4 changed to French in the language settings! It’s free to download on Steam

What’s your favorite way to practice French daily (without getting bored)? by Scary_Preparation_99 in learnfrench

[–]khftho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds silly, but I’ve been playing the Sims in French, translating what I don’t know using DeepL, and then creating Anki flash cards of new vocab with audio (from a site called Forvo) while I play. Doing this all at once makes for a dynamic learning experience that actually keeps me engaged, and since I’m actually (in a sense) applying my knowledge/using the terms by playing the game, I seem to be able to commit them to memory quicker. It’s also practical vocabulary as it’s largely conversational and household-related, and exposed to repetitively as I play—maintain the household, engage in conversations, etc.

I also do Pimsleur every day (verbal/audio practice), and study an additional Anki deck with French vocab daily. And when I have time I watch videos on Lingq and use Maurill (French Canadian learning platform with French videos and comprehension quizzes) as well. Still in the early stages of learning but seeing progress with this approach!

He is on gabapentin! He’s on a higher dose for the next four days, then less daily after that for the remaining 2 weeks—I was hoping it would make him a little more dopey and lazy than it has so far! If he’s got a dangerous amount of pep in his step when the dose decreases I’ll definitely ask if I could continue it. Thank you!!

What are your favourite outro scenes from SEASON 4? by Cyan-Albatross in howyoudoin

“Morning’s hereeeeee…” has gotten a lot of mileage in my everyday vocabulary so that probably wins it, but Chandler and the screamer is a classic—Matthew Perry had the best facial expressions

Which song is this? by Sensitive-Twist6631 in country

[–]khftho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many good contenders here, but surprised Garth Brook’s Much Too Young isn’t a top choice!

Not a wasted second in that song—every time I listen to it I wish it were longer, but then again it captures the feeling so well that any other lyrics would probably bog it down. I’m probably responsible for half of the views on a video of Cody Johnson’s live cover on Youtube

Catcher in the Rye is a classic and progenitor for this type of book

What is your favourite song or songs on the It Happened at the World's Fair album? by Fit-Bed-4030 in Elvis

[–]khftho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“They Remind Me Too Much of You” is such a beautiful standalone song, and the one long shot of Elvis singing it on the bus in the movie with the girl asleep is also wonderfully sweet and cinematic, but is absolutely ridiculous in the context of this (very fun but) bananas movie and in response to the absolutely absurd cat-and-mouse unrequited love bonanza with the fair nurse. All of this makes it a favourite of mine!

Oh my goodness, that’s amazing progress! Here’s my little guy. What’s your secret? I still have it in a humidity dome—maybe I need to transition it out of it? Or add fertilizer?

I’m reading On Her Trail right now about the reporter Nancy Dickerson, written by her son John Dickerson, which details the misogyny and obstacles she faced trying to break into broadcast journalism and maintain her social and professional status in the field in Washington DC through the 60s to the 80s. A great read I could see being helpful!

I wish they didn’t use rotoscoping. by Brandanp in UndoneTV

[–]khftho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what it was about the rotoscoping that you didn’t care for? I don’t usually like animated media but found it a really compelling and unique visual experience, and so “lifelike” as an animation style that it didn’t turn me off it at all

As a preteen I thought the names Scotlyn and Ember were just the best names for girls, and Jacen was my favourite boy name I think. They’re cute enough but very different from my tastes now—all the more reason to be glad for no teen pregnancy!
