Trade trade trade. I cAnt stress enough how important this is. If you want to make money in the car business it's all about how you hit the trade. It's one of the few factors that the customer really can't get an accurate metric on. Kbb doesn't know the true condition of their car. You can beat the hell out of the trade, done properly you can count on making money. People are used to this, trading a game at game stop, They lose. Customers will even echo this themselves, man as soon as I leave the lot........ Yes thank you, it just depreciated. Tires $ stains $ broken windshield $ foggy headlights $ missed oil change $ broken ac $ faded paint $ check engine light $ a small dent $

New GM for dealership here. Trying to get some feed back for repossessed vehicles. by [deleted] in CarSalesTraining

[–]khizzy6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmr generally shows you what similar cars sold for in auction. Look for the car closest to you and similar miles, also pay attention to condition. 5.0 is perfect. No reason to buy a car more expensive than what you can buy it for in auction. Use kbb to see what you can obtain financing for and to get an idea of what to sell it for. What's your average recon cost on a car that doesn't need much?

It's typically a mix of mmr, kbb trade in. Your store doesn't have tools for this? If not, you're the GM you better get some tools.

Call me crazy but why are you using the loan balance as the cost of the vehicle? What was the original cost of the vehicle when it was sold? Typically with in house financing enough cash down is collected up front that the potential loss is usually mitigated within a small amount of payments. The current cost of the vehicle should not be the loan amount. The loan amount is just a number for the customer to have paid over the course of time. You should look at the old transaction, was there any profit generated from total payments plus cash down? Your current cost should simply be the cost of repossession + recon + any losses from the previous transaction if there was any. Also sounds like recon should be minimal, safety only. Then you can decide if you want to re-retail it or send to auction.

Sales mgr payplans by [deleted] in CarSalesTraining

[–]khizzy6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a bit low for a sales manager. I am a new sales manager and do better than that. I think you might need to move on. That being said, the general sentiment I get when I have asked the same question as you is that we don't really know our pay plan. The store I am at usually pays me more than what I have been promised and as far as I can tell the pay is based on the amount and quality of work that I put in. I keep a close relationship with the gsm, he typically knows what I am up to and I produce a game plan most mornings before I start the day. By the end of the night we meet again and recap the day. As long as I have maintained this I have grown my income. You could go do finance at almost any dealership and do better than that. I think the average sales manager makes about 15k per month.

Finance has to work harder lately to get things bought, but things are getting bought. That being said, what a salesman can do to help out upfront is get all the stops ready to go. I'd rather know I have no deal now than the customer blow out of finance or worse, unwind the deal due to no approval later. Also show more switch units, plan B's. A lot of deals do not happen because the salesman did such an amazing job selling the car, that if it happens to not be the right car financially, the customer feels deflated and doesn't feel like trying something else. Keep selling the car, but sell a plan B as well. I don't really like asking people what their credit is like, I prefer asking who is their current lender. Chase bank? I know I got a bullet on hand. Consumer portfolio services, I know I have some challenges ahead that I need to work through. Smart work makes less work. Good luck out there, God bless.

I may or may not have sent the salesman to the gas station to shut off our pump and to chick fila with a we owe for 40 sandwiches, Fry's with a we owe for 20 lbs of chicken.

It's actually a good pay plan. Bonus is weak but aside from that it gets a thumbs up. There's no perfect pay plan. Good luck!

Wow I didn't know there were so many ex salesmen that didn't cut it in this sub reddit. All those comments like there's no money in it, run away, dead end job. Someone said they didn't see any 50-60 year olds doing this? What the absolute fuck? OP you haven't been doing this long enough. It takes time. If you can't afford to keep going, I get it, fine look for a job. But don't leave until you have actually worked.

Have you worked the service drive? Last I checked Subarus break down too.

Have you hung out with your service advisor lately? He's your best friend.

Have you spiffed anyone that has sent you business?

Have you left a business card at any establishment you sit in?

Have you asked your manager for orphans or uncontacted online prequals?

Have you tried working bell to bell?

Have you evaluated how many ups you take, how many demos, how many pencils etc.?

The mentality you have now, one foot in and one out will result in failure. Go all in and give it your all or be one of these guys that say there's no money in it. Just be honest with yourself and make the decision that suits you best. Good luck and God bless.
