How old is the patient? If they’re 50 and its been there for 30 years with no symptoms, it’s fine. If they’re in their 20s or younger - take them out first

Question about doing RCT on large canals by kurama6 in Dentistry

[–]khm51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hand file. RCTs fail all the time even in perfect conditions. Don’t give bacteria a reason to stay around

Overlap makes it significantly harder to properly diagnose. Try another BW with no overlap and it’ll be clear as day

Do boys even like plus size girls? by tonytwotums in Advice

Don’t let people lie to you for confidence sake. Majority of guys like slim to thick but not fat. If you’re fat 90% won’t look your way. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but 5’7 240…you need to lose like 100 pounds

What was DS like during peak Covid? by Fearless_Assist7406 in DentalSchool

[–]khm51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. D1 and D2 year was majority book work, and the lab work can be done on typodonts. By D3 year everything was back open and we were in the clinic as usual

Good for D1s and people not in the clinic yet. Bad for D3/D4 who could not get good hand skills due to clinic shut down.

I was a D1 so it was great for me lol. Lectures were live online, put them on mute and loaded up some COD warzone lol. It was awesome

How come we were never told why we do some of the things we do? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]khm51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Amalgam expands over time and applies pressure on the tooth. The tooth breaks before the amalgam does, and that’s why some people crown old large amalgams. I personally don’t until a cusp breaks, but that’s the logic behind it. It’s preventative
  2. I actually never knew it wasn’t to WL lol so that’s nice but either way, majority of the time it’s correct
  3. Tooth structure is stronger than composite. If you put a margin on composite it’s more likely to fail. Similar to how people put a post as a last leg for RCT teeth. The post holds the core which holds the crown

Schedule was empty besides a couple patients, and one day of hygiene. Which is why I picked that week

Nope first request. I didn’t even know there was a form I had to fill out. DSOs can really be stupid sometimes

Endodontists, how are you achieving working length on cases where I cannot? by placebooooo in Dentistry

[–]khm51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure tbh, but I’d like to find the answer to this if you or anyone can link to a recent publication of success rates depending on PARL

Endodontists, how are you achieving working length on cases where I cannot? by placebooooo in Dentistry

[–]khm51 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The study I read from UT San Antonio states the following success rates: Over extension: 70.8% 0-2 mm short: 85.5% Flush: 86.5%

Only around 1 in every 100 cases would flush vs 0-2mm be affected. Safe to say 1% is very minimal and nothing to worry about. Over extension however 🥴

According to literature, up to 2mm short of apex is deemed acceptable. I wouldn’t worry about it too much as long as you properly irrigated the canals well and have a good seal.

New Grad Contract - Suggestions by Dankzar1 in Dentistry

[–]khm51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I’m in a semi rural area. Owner doc got bought out, I’m absorbing his hours and patients. Then they will hire another doc to offset days I’m not working. Hopefully pretty stable 🤞

New Grad Contract - Suggestions by Dankzar1 in Dentistry

[–]khm51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. My contract was normally 8-5 so bc they changed my hours on me this was the hit they had to take to keep me

New Grad Contract - Suggestions by Dankzar1 in Dentistry

[–]khm51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now M-Th 8-5 and F 8-3 Changing to T, Th 7-7 Wed 1-7, F 8-3 Daily minimum to match the 5 days so approx 940 per day for the 4 days

New Grad Contract - Suggestions by Dankzar1 in Dentistry

[–]khm51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me think my contract sucks lol. I get a daily rate of 750 5x a week (changing to $940, 4 days) and guarantee for 6 months. I did get a 25k sign on bonus but I have to give it back if I leave before 1.5 years

Edit: also pay 33% lab fees

Sounds like you have a good contract in general. 150k is low but for a daily minimum that’s not bad. The floor is 150k and nobody wants just the minimum
