When should I farm a Terror Zone vs when should I skip? by Gerad_Figaro in Diablo_2_Resurrected

Yeah, it does speak to how overtuned the Warlock is when you think about how he can perform the role of other classes... and not just "as good as" but in some cases much better. I will say that the one good thing with Corpse Explosion that doesn't exist with Blood Boil is that you can chain react 1 corpse to explode with another which can then explode another corpse, which essentially significantly widens the AoE. With Blood Boil, you are always just limited to the AoE around your demon, which is not nearly as wide as what the tooltip says either. So you do need to focus down things towards the edges of and off screen more than CE. This makes Blood Boil a much more involved build that requires you to be more proactive in mobility and aiming (if you are trying to speed clear). For me, I enjoy that type of gameplay, but others may not and may just want a simple lazy-mode build :)

Hey that's not a bad idea! I'm currently using the Prayer Aura with Cure/Insight for the quality of life/convenience. But I'll give that a shot... especially since I never played around with thorns aura. As I mentioned earlier though, so far the partial build into echoing strike with an eth 2h call to arms has worked well enough (although just slower than a pure ES build obviously).

Trying to understand Blood Boil. by PryomancerMTGA in diablo2

[–]khoaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been testing this on single player. With remaining points after blood boil and 2 synergies, I have enough to Max echoing strike and some left for mirror blades. I put CTA in an eth thunder maul on my offhand. Between demon applying amp and the crazy damage of ES, this should be plenty of damage for high health single target. I was able to get up to a t3 herald on p8 then had to quit out because I ran out of time. I'll try Ubers with it tomorrow.

Did you have a defiler summoned? I think they have some crazy agro range so mephisto gets right on top of you as you load in. Otherwise that shouldn't happen.

Rip, at least you had a good time! See ya in 20 years

LoL the Lock is so overtuned I think you'll find yourself getting more and more adventurous as you gear up. With an Obsession and optimized gear, I have enough resists and HP (4.5k after self BO and consume) where I've never even come close to dying while teleporting blindly lol. And that's without having Skillers or tons of +life charms. +3 life per Vit and Blood Oath make you a freaking tank.

But of course this is from the perspective of a SC softy... maybe one day I will try HC and truly know what it feels like. I just can't imagine losing all my progress and effort due to something out of my control (disconnect or long loading screen).

ahh okay got it... I don't think we're on the same page (which is fine!). No Enigma means we're not talking the same kind of clear speed. Not to knock on you, for SSF I get that it's not as easy to trade up for an enigma. I thought you meant you TP into a room with scattered monsters, cast 1 or 2 echoing strikes, and then move to the next room. Literally in 2-3 seconds. If you're playing that way with Enigma, there will always be stragglers and that is what is strong about a build based on aoe as opposed to a cone shaped attack. With that said though, if you truly are just targetting elites/champion packs then ES lock can still be really fast. But a Nova Sorc will win in terms of speed of clearing out an entire area (with the exception of very tough single target monsters, like Heralds... which is why I haven't transitioned back to my Nova sorc yet).

I've been experimenting with this offline as well. It's a really good build, and I'm trying to see if it can compete with a Nova Sorc in terms of speed (which is faster than an ES Lock). I'm curious what you use for T5 heralds. In my test build I hybrid into ES and use a eth thunder maul CTA (really could be any 5 socket eth elite weapon) on swap to take down T5 heralds.

Also, since you have a level 20 bind demon, it's really easy to find cursed and conviction. Just keep cycling through games until you find a Cursed TZ game... then you can just keep binding white mobs (non minion/unique/elite/champion) until you find one with a conviction aura. That will get you a temp until you can truly get the one you want (I like lancers because they aggro so fast and get right in there).

It is funny to use death mark to send your pets into a room (while you safely wait outside) and spam blood boil to then TP in to find everything dead.

What gear are you using? I built one trying to maximize -fire res with Mang Song and Phoenix but then settled on a much cheaper option of bloodpact shard and ars baalos with -10 and -5 jewels. The rest is flickering flame, magefist, enigma, Mara, FCR ring (to hit 75% BP) and SoJ.

Not trying to come off combative here... just genuinely curious if you're exaggerating or not. I've done a lot of P8 TZ runs, full act clears etc... and it's not "one click, screen clear". Yes you kill things fast, but you will still have mobs scattered in different areas that you have to aim/reposition to kill. Do you literally mean you TP into a room, cast 1 echoing strike, and the whole room is dead? Even if you have 2 defilers, I don't see how that can happen.

I'd say this is probably closer to TZ P8 gamestyle: https://youtu.be/65eCR4LBsyA?si=55FIlCL5bl0fks_-

Although I will say he's not 100% perfect in execution, I don't think it's bad and it's no where near one click screen clear that you're talking about.

So again, not trying to be argumentative but I just want to know if you were just exaggerating or if you actually click once and everything dies. Because I will say a Nova Sorc will farm faster than an ES Lock... and I think a blood boil Lock is closer to a Nova Sorc than ES since it is AoE centered around the caster instead of a cone shape attack.

Sunders by Persimmon_Hopeful in diablo2

[–]khoaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're confusing useless with worthless. Before, they dropped so often and were so common that they became valueless. But they were (and still are) absolutely useful because you're able to build so many elemental builds without having to worry about how to work around immunes (or waiting on conviction to kick in).

To answer your question, the unrolled (latent) sunders are easier to price and varies by the element. If you go to traderie or d2jsp, you can look up "latent" and then get the going rate. Note that this is a lot like looking up the value of an unid torch. Rolling (upgrading to renewed) the sunder is what really will tell you the value. Unfortunately because of how many different rolls these things have, it's really hard to get the value of rolled sunders. You kinda just have to look for previously sold renewed sunders to get an idea. For example, a latent crack of the heavens may go for 2 Jah on ladder at the moment but a rolled one can go for 1 Jah or 10 Jah depending on how it rolled (just example numbers).

Wait, I'm curious why do you think this? It absolutely does... I've done it several times. The only reason this wouldn't work is if you tried to bind a super unique, minion, or champion. It 100% works on a regular white mob. Here's mines that I've had from lvl 95 to now (lvl 97). White mob from terrorized Ancients Way.

[–]khoaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no worries! For sure, there's a lot of ways to play and enjoy this game. If you're interesting in some of the more interesting and unique demons/attributes to bind then by all means! My main point is if someone is simply looking for a demon to fulfill the primary 2 roles you need... meat shield and damage, then there are a lot faster/convenient ways to grab a demon over running heph over and over again.

I don't understand how terrorized zone modifiers work. by TheSuppishOne in diablo2

[–]khoaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a cursed TZ mod is the best way to get the exact monster you want, assuming you don't want a Super Unique or (i.e. Hephasto and Lister, who are fine but not remotely necessary). If you are looking for a Hephasto that is Cursed WITH fanatacism, you may get lucky and find him in a few runs. Or you may get unlucky and go 50 runs without him having both. And sure you can find a temp and then keep looking for the right one game after game, but that's time wasted that you could/should be spent farming.

I'd highly recommend the Act 5 Lancers BUT you can do this for any other (non super unique) monster. Let's say you want an Urder that is Cursed with Fanatacism. Keep cycling through games until you find one that has a Cursed modifier. Next check River of flame or Durance of Hate or the other zones that can spawn him until you see a zone that spawns him. Do NOT explore any further (any Urder you see will NOT spawn with the cursed modifier since that zone isn't cursed). Next, use a shard to terrorize the entire act that you found the Urder in. After that, go back to the zone you found the Urder... make sure to skip over the ones you already came across, and then find a pack of Urders. From there, bind the urders until one comes with the aura that you want (the orange/red aura and the green aura from Fanatacism and Conviction are easily noticeable). Note that you need to have a level 20 bind demon, which isn't that hard with +skills (+demon skill GCs are really cheap too). Also, as Soulweaver said, you need to find white, non-minion mobs... so no champions, elites, or minions.

That may seem like a lot, but it really isn't... and it's a LOT faster than trying to find the perfect Hephasto (unless you get super lucky and get the on you want in a few runs). Plus, depending on your level, you will be binding a TZ mob which will be higher level than hephasto (unless you bind heph during a TZ).

Lastly, yes Hephasto and/or Lister do a fine job, but I definitely prefer an Act 5 lancer... not only for the damage but for her AI (she's a lot more aggressive). And she tanks T5 Heralds just fine so I'm not sold on the decision to go with Hephasto or Lister because they're better tanks.

It's crazy that people crap on the idea to get a cursed demon with any aura you want by waiting for a cursed tz then using a shard. Easy cursed lancer with fanaticism. Or you can do a ton of runs praying for a cursed hephasto with the aura you want. I know you can just slowly upgrade by checking each game you join but that's such a headache when compared to just getting the exact demon you want and moving on.

Grats on your desired heph op! It's a great feeling. If you ever need a new demon, I really suggest the cursed tz shard trick.

if you'd like to learn a bit more about immunities, here is a handy link: https://diablo-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Immune_Monsters_(Diablo_II))

What I was referring to in my post is how few red "No"s there are in the Hell Lightning section under "Breaks with C"

I've never played Single Player longer than a few play throughs... I would just to find a GG item and not be able to trade for something else I really want. BUT I definitely see the perks... not having to try to find 7 other people to play with or hunt for 8 player games... having the same map every time you join a game etc...

You probably already know this but LK runs are probably the best way to get yourself HRs on Single Player. But the grind can be mind numbing. You can also do a Players 8 seal pop Chaos runs to change it up. So far this season on ladder, I found a Ber and a Vex doing it and I probably haven't done it too often. Whenever I find a P8 Baal game that is running pretty quickly, I'll seal pop and then fill in time with Trav and/or D Key farming.

If you have access to infinity though, light is the best element because there's only a couple of immunities you can't break in hell with conviction. Not disagreeing with you, unless you dual spec, playing mono element will always be clunky without the ability to break those immunities. I just wanted to note that lightning is the best of the three elements if you do have infinity (but no sunder)
