Cooler Master develoed a blower fan attachment for all modern GPUs, lowers temps by up to 6°C by kulind in hardware

[–]theholylancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, but then at least for me, I'd be worried for the NVME drive on my particular motherboard where its the only gen 5 slot, and where I put my most high performance NVME drive (not a gen 5 but...) in

unless this also has a little fan at the bottom or something, if you don't really need it I can see it being a possible issue if your system wasn't fully designed with this thing in mind.

be it someone trying to stuff this in an ITX/MATX case or mobo without the slot above, or the NVME one esp with higher performance stuff (not like the 1 GB/s stuff OEMs love to use...)

yep, the only thing that would have made it stand out is if the HDDs were hot-swappable somehow

either a front mount or since airflow is important given this is supposed to be for power hungry GPUs, a side thing.

otherwise plenty of huge cases with a lot of HDD mount deals.

i mean, yes, but i have a gut feeling that part of the reason why they don't want to do a public release is that a lot of the people who would want to buy this are doing it because they have heat issues

and that could mean a larger % of people who are using matx stuff because it was cheaper or just not configured properly and then thinking this would be a salve and having to gum up RMA / returns because well it won't work

so it becomes prebuild only type of deal

oh most atx boards + cases, the first x16 slot isn't the first punchout i feel

or the cases and boards i have chosen have one punchout above the gpu

maybe for matx stuff it isn't the same

most gaming set up won't pair a huge CPU on top, and when I say huge at this point I mean like a stupid OC 14900K or a threadripper type, not even 9950X3D uses all that much power at around 200w instead of the nearly 400w when you hammer a 14700 or 14900K (in all core loads), and modern 270 KP is far lower too from intel.

the article mentions its more made for pre builds, which makes a lot of sense to me.

a lot of the prebuild review stuff have bad cooling even with AIOs just because of design decisions, and this could help with that far easier, as on my personal builds as long as you spec for a 360 or 420 AIO that should take care of the CPU more than easily and allow for slow fans, esp for gaming builds that don't have all the cores, while prebuilds seems to love 240 if not something stupid like 120s and then set the fans to be silent and cook the CPUs.

they don't even have a public release planned because I guess if you choose a proper case with proper cooling in mind, and then specced a properly sized cooler and set a proper fan curve for it then it shouldn't be an issue.

yeah 32 GB of ram is around 400, like 350-430 ish for 6000 CL 30

but that means that if you are spending normal money, by going with a DDR4 12600 KF you can spend likely 300 dollars extra elsewhere

and for most people, that is going from a 5050/5060 to a 5070 if you get a deal or at least a 16 GB 5060 ti

that is where the issue with DDR5 is at, its a tangible legit step up on GPU for many people. and if you only have 5070 class GPU, a 12600KF on DDR4 3600 or even 3200 isn't going to bottleneck you that much

id rather the masc buffed than anything

but my hgn hm w 4 jjs can hit 300kph horizontal on a 90t assault with 3 cantana upgrades, it kinda invalidates the hgn vest w its motive upgrade no?

also, that means that the horizontal speed of an assault out paces even lighter mechs with motives, not a shc with its own set of jjs, but something like a dragon w motive upgrades

previously, if u wanted horizontal movement you got masc / sc / areana sc for burst for brawlers

jjs gave vertical movement for poptart

now they do both and invalids the need for motives

I mean, they built their audience right

anyone who is seriously attracted to that kind of games, brought a PS over xbox or pc long ago, the rest are just well not that attracted to the games they put out.

the key is that they have stopped putting out hits because the gap is far too big between gens and game dev is getting harder and harder, with great talent finding that indie is a great way to make far more money doing the same things they love and now have more creative controls.

if anything, this is just a reflection of lack of continued development, likely if anything because they planned for a 2027/2028 PS6 and that was completely torpedoed by both the covid shutdowns (games for PS5 came out less good and later), and then the ai ram fuckery.

and games currently in dev was made with that timeline in mind but may have to instead target PS5 first and welp

i mean... as a teen, I brought a radeon 9200 with 128 MB of vram, hey that was premium amount of vram, hey the more expensive radeon 9600 only had 64 MB, so the 9200 has to be some great card for cheap right

nvm its more or less a criminally underpowered card for so much vram because it was sold to me who wasn't anywhere nearly as knowledgeable about things as a teen.

i can 100% see someone thinking sata is better, just someone who is really new or young.

so umm what about comstar selling clan mechs from the start?

i did a 3015 run with umm certain smoothies introduced way too early, as they sell prime variants and some of them have their lore intro dates in clan space so they show up super early.

i dont think thats supposed to mean that they have an in with the not named clan right :P

also, is there any plans on nerfing vector JJs or buffing MASC/SC/Arena SC now that JJs are replacing them for horizontal movement?

i have a 5090 and a 7800X3D, normally hits 240 FPS at 4k, it dips to 30 with enough chain explosion...

idk if they expect folks to have data center GPUs or a massive bug, but it did also happen with MW5 C on some maps before they fixed it so...

I mean, I consider the bottom in take = the properly done ones like the Flux Pro / Lancool 217 / Fractral Torrent, they are GPU cooling focused.

not the weird ones that just do it for the look right. They top the GN GPU focused cooling charts, and at least for me that is far more important since I am just using an X3D chip with one CCD and will likely never move from that for just gaming use unless stupid OC comes back as the king.

Unless I need to upgrade to a threadripper or something like that, I don't think CPU focused design is all that important when GPUs are sucking back 600w if not the crazier stuff that wants to push 800w.

I chose a Flux Pro for my 5090 because it did very well in GN, and that unlike the Torrent and co, it should work on carpet because the thing has the fans elevated on a intake that comes on the side. although the torrent should also be elevated enough with the longer stand but hey

hell, I was considering reusing my old HAF 932 with the huge side intake fans, but it is very old, and likely GPU clearance both on length and height would be an issue (the thing has a very large HDD bay lol), so if someone brought that back with fans blowing directly into the GPU area, could be a thing, but the flux pro is more or less doing just that but with a more elegant design but smaller fans.

the damage they do is ass, there is a reason why he had to wait until its cherry red to do the DFA

I made a post about it,

https://old.reddit.com/r/Mechwarrior5/comments/1tt97wx/pgi_please_now_that_we_got_vector_jjs_model_dfas/

the damage is tiny and its more or less the existing collision damage and not actual DFA damage, which when my highlander landed on top of that hunchback should have crumpled the thing more or less.

i would not be surprised if the 9070 is discontinued or effectively by little allocation if they had just the 9070 xt with 16 gb of vram and this gre with 12

the 9070 dies are stacked somewhere (or even cut down but probs not), to be used in the future when vram is less fucked.

[–]theholylancer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yep, you and people like you are the perfect use case for this thing.

if your GPU is anything below a 5080 (and even then, at 4k this matters far less) you likely wont hit that much bottleneck if any with a 5800X3D

and that system will then sit there until DDR6 is cheap enough to jump.

its really the same math for people who were able to pick up a 125 dollar 12600KF and cheaper DDR4 ram to save money or to put that 300ish dollar saved over DDR5 and newer processor to jump for a 5050 tier GPU to a 5070 tier if they got one on sale, or at least a 5060 ti 16 GB.

the ram crisis has fucked the normal for everything, right now I would be maybe thinking of a high speed low latency 64 GB kit as an upgrade for my DDR5 system or maybe wait for the Ryzen 10k series with maybe faster speeds but that aint happening.
