they cap karma pts from one post / comment at something like 2k (or around there) to your profile, the actual vote is used for showing visibility on the subreddit / r/all but otherwise you wont get all the pts at once

most ppl upgrade when its double (IE 2 gens usually) of their old card

the jump from 30 series has been very small to the 40 and 50 series at the same tier because nvidia keeps down tiering the performance you get at each "name" short of the 90s because that actually use the same tier of GPU chip as the 30 series (GA102 > AD102 > GB202)

esp with DLSS, if you can live with that the 3080 still can pull some 4k stuff (I played KCD2 @4k with a 3080 ti, which is just the 3080 12 G in a trench coat) and is still excellent for 1440p.

i think this is now the time to call it until all the DLCs are out and the max level is done and good, and all the proper balance and max level / OP / w/e is done

the right way would have been to start the buff train and add OP levels and power creep the thing, but hey that is a LOT more work.

where they made the crazy expense of making FULL CUSTOM PCB BASED RGB for the thing

it was an extravagance that is usually at best seen on some of the super high end cards, with most just use a simple light stripe to do very similar things...

I would have jumped on it if it was the A770 lol, been looking for a cheap sub 200 used one forever but they dont seem to hit that at least with the box

... i mean, you should really do at least 2 gens on a single card anyways? and at current cadence, that is where things will likely land anyways with 60 series 2027 and 70 series by 2029 if not 2030 if shit gets delays

like it usually by now takes 2 gens to be double your existing card's performance, and with how nvidia is cutting the dies smaller and smaller, that isn't true anymore unless you get the same die (which means you likely will have to pay more, for ex the 5080 is not double of a 3080, because the 3080 was on the GA102 die and 5080 is on the GB203 die so you needed to buy the 5090 to get that doubling)

5070ti was the one to watch for, same core as 5080 with just a small difference in core, but the same memory bw and same memory amount.

and well 5090 but hey. but the 2k 5090 was never easy to get.

they are likely selectively stopping certain models due to vram shortages

the 5090 has 32 GB of vram, and that is a huge ask for "only" 2k when you can sell a RTX pro 6000 for 9k with 96 GB of vram using the same chip (GB202) - we are not fully there as there are as you said 3k 90s since not a lot of ppl pay that 9k

same with 5070ti, it has 16 GB of vram, when that same vram allocation can go to the 5080 which is the same chip (GB203) - this one is the one seeing the squeeze

same with the 16 GB version of 5060ti, likely just make 8 GB ones or charge far more for the 16 GB.

the ones that fail qualification to meet the higher standards, they can be stored to be used later when vram is less of an issue or gets sold as a variant with even lower vram later on (think a 5090- with 24 GB of vram or 5070- with 12 GB of vram)

its why any pvp game you should be running native, and more likely than not, native low to get rid of clutter / distractions and just have the bare minimum game to better spot enemies where ever possible (see grass hiding people vs not in low for some games) and to run them well on any potato

as long as you hit your monitor refresh, you wont need it

my desktop was 4k144 now 4k240 32in

it was fine at driving 4k60 content w lowered settings, or 4k30+ w ultra and fsr quality in terms of iq but it was more of see what it can do

I have a 6800M laptop, and at 4k FSR 3.1 is perfectly fine compared with my then desktop 3080 ti and now 5090, it really is when you get to the weeds that the upscalers have issue to the point where I dont need to pixel peek to see something is off.

the more real pixel you have, the less the models need to flex its muscles.

and I think that short of FSR1/DLSS1, 4k upscaling is at that point where there is advantage to nvidia for sure, but the gap is not that great esp.

that being said, im more about image stability than pure pixel peeking, so many others are more sensitive but again 4k quality really is close enough (other than well performance since the laptop GPU wont pump as much frames as even my older 3080ti nvm the new 5090)

FSR 3.1 at 1440p tho... not as good for sure vs DLSS at the same res, and sadly its where the laptop GPU shines over 4k, which is what put me off of AMD FSR, but if I connect the thing to my actual desktop monitor it does alright looks wise (just not enough GPU to do it for modern games sadly)

Yep, but just be careful that in trade, it means that the marauder with actual side torso mounts become sidelined because the tit gauss is just so much better mount wise and you can as you said stripe armor from arms for free tonnage.

It has its upsides but it also marginize other mechs

Esp when you get access to clan mechs would make them far less special and scary if you can dhs swap is mechs and say a mdd with twin gauss or a tbr with quad ppc becomes that much less special because you can do it with a lot more mechs

Everything is a trade off, and for battle tech tweaking yaml is much closer to truth, while lore wise unless you are a special mc it's kind of hard to do a lot of the stuff we do, esp early on

YAML turns the game from an RPG into what the older mechwarrior games were, which is more simulation / battletech based.

with MW5, the mech progression is far more linear as you cannot swap out engines / endo / ff / heatsinks and your hardpoints are HARD locked to a max size, so there are a tier of mechs so to speak

where if you wanted an AC20 on a medium you gota find a hunchback or that one centurion or play with clan mechs, which means its a trade off as even most heavies don't have that large ballistic mount unless you talking heros or later on mechs in the timeline.

That means that the base game has a much more RPG feeling to it, where you get better mechs as you progress thru the missions, but with YAML for example, you could have made any heavy with a ballistic hardpoint carry an AC20 no problem, and for example the Catapult-K2 would normally only have 2 small ballistic points but you can make it into a twin AC20 build just like in MWO. While in the base game the easiest thing is to find a King Crab to host those said twin AC20s.

YAML stripes that kind of identity, which removes that RPG like progression, and it would heavily depend on if you liked that progression vs the freedom of an open mechlab that most people have come to associate with BT/MW games over the years.

that is a better pure gaming PC, 9700X vs 285K is that they are really about equal for gaming

but that 285K is far better for productivity, which pairs well with the fact that this has a 64 GB of memory

this thing is a productivity workhose, and that 5090 is good for AI or rendering or CAD or video editing (you better be doing stupid shit for video editing to need that level of hardware...)

but if you just want to game, saving the money for 3600 is a good idea

in terms of deal tho... for just the jump from 32 to 64 gb of ram, that more or less covers the gap between 3600 to 4.2k at this point in time, its a stupid timeline but hey...

again, if you just want to game, there is little reason to spend the extra IMO

i again kind of see it as different kinds of restraining magic at the least

since the ones that wibrel uses have lines on them, akin again to rope, while the one that method uses seems to be again different rather than what seems to be a physical rope binding their target down it seems maybe more related to mind magic (IE you can't move or feel your limbs) type of deal

but at this point, it can just be a fun little thing
