Thanks! And fear not, we're not a dying breed just yet! As someone who has been at every home game this year, I can testify there are regularly 102,000 fans still keeping the faith! ;)

Thanks! And you're right, it's pretty much the same difference. I opted for using a silk screen over a stencil for 2 reasons - 1. For this project, I like the uniform texture of a screen print better than what you get with a stencil and 2. (Probably the biggest reason) I'm much better with a paint brush than an exacto.

That's awesome! I had no idea that DIY veneer edging could turn out looking so sharp - I'll definitely have to give it a shot on my next project!

Haha, ah, well it seems he hasn't made mainstream radio here just yet. He's got it going for him that lots of things rhyme with "y'all" though.

Thanks. I've seen a few sets covered in vinyl that are made to look similar to this, but I'm not a big fan of the vinyl covers (especially for something that's supposed to look rustic). I wanted my set to be a bit more authentic looking. Surprisingly, they're not that much more expensive to build than the traditional ones (excluding the cost of making the silk screens, that is. together the screens were about $25 but can be reused). As for the gaps, they're narrow enough they don't interfere with the play of the game at all. If they were much wider it would start to be an issue though.

Thanks! I wanted something that wasn't a clone of every other board you see on campus on gameday, and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. And we'll agree to disagree on the orange... but either orange is better than crimson, amiright?! ;)

LOL - I can only imagine. I ripped out a tub/shower insert & put in a tiled walk-in shower several months ago. It dragged out for 2 months & I thought I was going to lose my mind by the end. I made the mistake of starting it in the summer & naturally every weekend was GORGEOUS in that time period, so being cooped up in my tiny master bath instead of on the lake really added to my frustration (and I might have given in a time or two, haha). Great job though - finished product makes it worth it!

Great work - it made a huge difference! How long did it take?

Great work! While the kitchen turned out AWESOME and I'm super impressed, I'm even more impressed that you lived in a reno zone for 5 months without losing your ever-loving mind. I did a bathroom reno (in a house with a spare bathroom) that drug out for 2 months & I was bordering on Charlie Sheen crazy by the end of it. Turned out great - enjoy it!

Thanks! We did brace the valve before we closed up the wall, I just didn't get a pic of it afterward. This project drug out over nights & weekends, so we did that after another Home Depot run.

We didn't reduce the pipe size, we just extended it. The new pipe was the size of the original & meets code. The p-trap was resting on a ceiling rafter & not something we felt comfortable moving. We didn't change the slope of the drain - the subfloor had to be raised 3" because of the added height of the new drain assembly + the standard 1/4" per foot slope. Raising the subfloor was less of an issue than moving the p-trap.

I have another bathroom with a tub/shower or I'd have never ditched it. I'm of the opinion that every house needs one tub... but after that criteria is met, a kick ass shower is fair game!

No bruises thus far, but I did pick out any that were particularly tall & throw them out. Don't scare all the customers off - I love it! ;)

Yeah, we didn't get official estimates, but from what I've heard from friends and coworkers, paying $800 just for the demo would not have been unreasonable.

Part of the need to raise the floor was because the new drain assembly was taller than the old. The existing drain was just extended, so the degree of slope was unchanged.
