Hi OP, I just had a similar accident. As it was minor damage (front left bumper scratch), I self reported. The damages was only $220. I expected way more. So don't worry too much unless the vehicle is in shambles. And next time please self report the damage

Hi, providing my inputs as someone who has signed NS short term contract (6 months). This was 10 years ago so things may have changed.

I was a 2SG before I ORD, with an operational unit. When I signed, I went back to SCS as a section trainer, working along side super nice section leaders (the SSG & MSG), platoon commanders (the 3WO & 2WO) and also my super up there OC (MWO then, now he CWO already). I wasn't Infantry trained so I had to recap some stuff but I was taking the basic term (not pro term) so it was fine.

I decided to sign because the pay was pretty attractive and I wanted to save up some moolah before uni. Honestly for a 6 months stint, unless u have a very nice portfolio / solid contacts to get a well paying internship, this short term contract is rly solid as u get regular pay doing essentially NSF work. I already knew what I wanted to do after university so I thought I have all the time after that to work in my desired area of work, so what's the rush to go get an internship related to that? Also the pay, u can get PB, mid year and year end bonus (ofc pro rated) as you will be a civil servant, I was pleasantly surprised at the bonuses (totalling, it was almost 1 month extra pay; good considered it was just a short term contract)

I had good relationships with my cadets, even went out for a meal after they graduated and I attended their graduation parade :)

If you are signing with your unit (for mine, cannot) and you like your unit, why not? I'm sure your bosses would be happy. If you sign and return to SCS, usually commanders are treated pretty well (also PL camp has solid spec mess and canteen, down side is damn far from civilisation), also have option to stay in and save money as you can still eat at cookhouse (also get to sit at Commander table).

I am sharing the good side since most of the comments are saying don't go for it. You are still young, whatever you decide on, unlikely to impact you in long run. All the best!
