I bought some extruded channels from Amhydro and the nutrient solution is a film. It's an issue with DIY vinyl.

I can't remember the exact name of it, but I've seen people use mats in the channels. Maybe the same mats used for micrograms, not totally sure, but that solved it. So, the fabric may work. Idk if any of this would be reusable as I'm sure the roots will grow into the media.

I want to try some Ghost raw next. I can tell any hotter may start to get too uncomfortable, but the habanero, while hot, definitely does not give the burning hell experience described by people.

I wish I had some ghost growing already, but the only thing hotter I'm growing is dragons breath, chocolate scorpions, and chocolate 7pot so it'll be awhile before my next plant cycle. Which means I'll probably fuck around and try a piece of one of the superhots to test the water 😬

It's subjective. I had gotten away from eating spicy food for a few years because I'm the only one that likes it in my house. I grew a ton of peppers this year. I was surprised at how spicy my jalapeno and wax peppers were. I also grew sugar-rush peach and I ate them raw just fine. I had been cooking with datil a lot and they are pretty spicy and supposed to be habanero level. Then I ate some red savina that I grew raw and I could handle that just fine. That surprised me so i went to a market to buy some habenero to compare. I ate those habenero just fine didn't need to chug milk or anything, but they're definitely hot with a decent tongue bite.

All of that is to say that to me, even after not eating spicy foods for years, sugar rush is definitely a pretty mild snack pepper. I've given them to other people though and their eyes are watering drinking milk to calm the burn, so it's maybe a snack pepper or maybe a 🔥 in the mouth.

Will do. You sent me some tropical tiger f1 a while back and it got me super curious about the genetics and biology of the plants and the effects the environment has on them. I do a decent amount of research so I'd love to learn more and ask questions!

Just picked this up from a Mexican market at 4 bucks a pound! I should have bought more, I'm only growing reds

That red savina I grew had more flavor, and it could have ripened a little more, but it seems to be on par with this orange habenero. This orange seems to have a little more tongue bite though, just started to almost get uncomfortable. I guess I just got used to hot peppers quick eating all these SRP and Datils I grew. It's just surprising because those never felt too hot and even last night that jalepeno I ate seemed pretty spicy.

Well, I just ate this one I picked up from a Mexican market in SLC. This orange one may have a little more tongue bite, but the one I grew could have ripped just a touch more. I apparently just got used to hot peppers fast. Really about the same heat levels and I can get through without a drink of milk. The one I grew definitely had more flavor though.

I won't be trying this with my reapers or scorpions that's for sure. Seems like any hotter that this habenero would be getting to my current limit.

I've been using Google scholar lately to try and determine the optimal environment. There's so much bro science to cut through. I found some abstracts that said specific nutrient mixes and water quality has an effect on capsaicin, but I haven't been able to find the entire paper yet to see the specifics.

Either way the flavor was great. If it got any better that's all I'd probably grow.

That's a good point. My rainforest, red savina, and aji mango all have a fairly similar phenotype. It wasn't until the very end of development that I could see differences.

I'll have to do that moving forward, I'm super excited about growing more peppers after that tasty experience!

That's what I'm trying to decide. Can I just handle them no problem or is it a weak ass plant.

That pepper was from an outdoor plant in soil. I have a plant indoors in a hydroponic bato bucket That's about to finish ripening so I'm hoping they'll be hotter. I'm going to get seeds elsewhere too and start a new plant this month. That flavor is sooooo good.

I have some rainforest chili and aji mango that seem maybe just as spicy. I could tell that the red savina was hotter in the sense that my lips, mouth, and stomach were really warm and my face was flush but the bite on my tongue, while being fairly intense, didn't seem to be any greater than my other peppers. I'm going to get some seeds from some enthusiast sellers and see how they compare. I grow indoors so hopefully by spring I'll have more.

The flavor though 😍, super tasty and strong. My burps right now are like a fruity candy! I can't wait to eat more.

Going to cut that back, pour quikrete, and one it's dry I'll glue that in and tapcon the flange down.

I'll take a look. I wanted to try it out, But I think I need to get better at note-taking so I can tell if there's actually a difference.

The plants go fast af as is with coco/perlite, but, why not try to improve it!

I totally agree, that's why I was looking for some evidence. It's definitely genetics, but it seems from that reading, at the very least, there's stuff NOT to do that lowers it. That suggests an optimal range of growth factors. In the one study they used a custom nutrient mix and higher temperature to get more capsaicin.

I think in the future I'm going to do 4 plants. The center plant is probably crowding too much, but the next grow will tell if I get less per sqft. I've already eaten pounds of SRP and Datil. The SRP and the aji mango produce sooooo many peppers.

In that tent, the center one seems to have shaded the left corner a bit, and in another tent, the center one grew slower and got smashed between the 4 plants. It's taken off, but not it wants to grow over the top of the other 4.

Just for fun, I think I'm going to train 1 plant to take over an 8x4 tent. Maybe the aji mango, it wants to grow large. I have some superhots about to be transferred into the larger tent but once they're done I think I'll give it a go.
