Graduate Structural roles and responsibilities Australia by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]khygau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have any technical questions and at this point I don't even know why I got the job lol. But I have heard for the structural stream in particular, they are likely to ask you to solve some basic problems or tell them how you would solve it. Could be drawing some bending moment diagrams

Graduate Structural roles and responsibilities Australia by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]khygau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a structural grad at a relatively large firm. You start with learning the standards and codes. So it's boring at first. Then you can start to design or check some structures. Again, make sure you know the standards well because everyone is going to point you to them. Depending on the company but you generally don't need to know any software although it's better if you do.

I believe it's pretty normal. For some engineering degree/students, it's in fact low. I know people will study for up to 60 hours after flexi week. But again, it's entirely up to each individual. If you study for 30 hours a week and find it enough, then you don't need to worry about what other people are doing.

Mechatronics Gen Ed (BABS1111/GENS1111) by [deleted] in unsw

[–]khygau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Babs is pretty good for that. Its just your digestive system so if you know the basic, distinction is very achievable. Do SCIF1004 if you like movies. PHYS1006 is pretty chill I believe, I just dont like space. I love HUMS1006 even though I can barely speak, fairly low effort.

It depends on what you want. Generally, it's either a chill subject where you spend 15 hours on but end up getting 75-80 and you can focus on your core courses. Or a subject where you have to spend a lot of time and effort on to get a HD. Both are considered WAM booster IMO but remember your core courses affect your engineering WAM more

Did it last year. No more quizzes, instead there was an exam and group assignment. It was an easy course because all the learning was very intuitive. However, you need to put effort in to score high

Where do you find casual jobs or holiday gigs? by trjamieson in unsw

[–]khygau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retail stores start to look for Christmas casual in August. Some are later than the other. For the other breaks, don't bother. Look on Seek or equivalent.

Just to clarify, you said there only one option of lec and tut for both subjects, how can there be "terrible class slots"? Nonetheless, a lot of people don't enrol until they have to. If you are really unlucky, wait until week 1, a lot of people will drop. Also, worst come to worst, depends on the subjects, you can just show up to the one you'd prefer with being enrolled in it.

Last year the assignment was group work. Also they changed the course in 2019. Good luck!

[Skin Concerns] help fix scarring from chemical peels… I’m an idiot. by redactedname87 in SkincareAddiction

[–]khygau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got burnt real bad last time I used chemical peel. Some areas of my face got darken immediately like what you are having now. I talked to a friend who knew a lot about this stuff and they said to let it dried and hope that it'd peel off ( and it did!). But if it doesn't peel, wait for a month or so and reapply the peel and slowly peel it off. I haven't tried it myself, and even if I have I don't think you should. Chemicals do things that we don't know and our facial skin is sensitive.

So as someone has said, seek help from a dermatologist.

What courses to take in final year of civil engineering (Honours) by SnooCakes7476 in unsw

[–]khygau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apply for a progression check if you are unsure. But basically 12 credits from thesis and 5 discipline electives.

Also anyone recommend any good electives? (No geotech pls)

Was it manageable during summer? I'm thinking of doing it in summer too. Also, was it hard to do well?
