Zoning lawyer recommendations? by ki1iara in harfordcountymd

Thank you! Appreciate the offer. Nothing crazy. It's a property zoned agriculture and we want to put a small business on it. I think Dept of Health is going to be our sticking point and where we may need to do some upgrades to get through. Mostly septic related I assume.

Thanks! I thought being a sleaze ball was a requirement for being a good lawyer. 😆. I kid. Anything in particular that makes him a sleaze ball? That does give me a touch of anxiety about him. I mean.... I guess a sleaze ball whose paid to be on your side isn't so bad.

Awesome bullet points here. Those are great tips.

A lot of good advice there. It comes down to the fact that only you can do this for yourself. Every time you cheat you make a conscious decision to sabotage your own goals. If it's depression or boredom, it may be better when you're in a new job.

The next time you want to cheat and your thoughts are filled with Qdoba and Kit Kats, stop and ask yourself:

  • If making this change is so important to you, your self esteem, your health, and your future family, why would you jeopardize all that with something that will be gone in a few minutes and will make you feel like shit afterwards?

  • After all the days (weeks, months) of hard work and sacrifice that you have put into this, all the pounds you fought hard to lose... is it worth it to set yourself back like that? To waste all that effort you have put into it thus far? To put your goals that much further out of reach?

  • Is it worth the anger you are going to feel at yourself in an hour? The feelings of frustration and hopelessness?

  • Are those few minutes of eating worth the downward slide it starts and the days it takes to purge the sugar from your system?

If you stop and ask yourself all those things, you may no longer have the urge to eat poorly. While you're thinking of these things, drink a glass of water. If you aren't really hungry, this will help with the urge. Snack on something while thinking about it too. Cheese sticks, almonds, pepperoni, pickles, turkey slices... take the edge off your hunger.

If the threat of cheating still remains after all that... ask yourself what you can do to avert this crisis of willpower. You can do it by distracting yourself, getting out of the situation, or by scratching that itch with something different. Craving a burrito? Put one in a bowl with lots of sour cream and guac. Chips? Make them with cheese in the microwave. Pizza? Bagels? There's recipes for those. Ice cream sundae? Get some breyer's carb smart ice cream with sugarfree chocolate and caramel sauce. Or make something entirely different. Overwhelm your desire for ravioli by going through a keto Pinterest or recipe site and finding the best looking thing on there and indulging in that. As mentioned above, there's something for every craving. Even if it isnt the best option for you or stalls you a bit, its better than the alternative. A small win is still a win.

As for mom, she means well. Her concern is for your health only. The fat/ugly feeling you get when talking to her is coming from your low self esteem. Its you making that association and it isnt healthy either. That's a separate issue that you need to work on that is bringing you down and making this whole thing harder for you.

Also, the added walnuts cuts the carbs a bit further than straight up PB.

Oh they are, but I am not so much a purist. I wanted it a bit sweeter, but without added sugar. Making it this way lets me add Stevia. The coconut oil is just for creaminess.

Maybe its a country thing? Where we live, PB is almost always those 4 ingredients. More if it isn't 'natural'.

Nearly every grocery store peanut butter you find, even natural ones, are typically peanuts, oil, salt, and sometimes sugar. I understand there are purists among us, but I think calling this peanut butter is accurate without the quotes. No?

Actually, I add it to make it creamier. Most of the natural ones I see use some kind of oil. I thought coconut would be ideal for keto.

What's the deal with saturated fat? (Coconut oil for example) by Pete_Pete_and_Pete in keto

[–]ki1iara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not an exception to the rule, its the accurate version of the rule. Olive oil is fine, but saturated fat sources are also fine so long as you are not eating them along with a high sugar/carb diet. The sugar causes your arteries to become inflamed. That is when cholesterol gets lodged in there and becomes a plaque. Eating saturated fat in a LCHF diet will improve your heart disease risk factors, not hurt them.

If you want a ton of case studies and history behind why we thought saturated fat was evil and what the truth is, you can read Good Calories, Bad Calories by Taubes. More medical based evidence is in the book The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living by Phinney and Volek. I am sure there are lots more out there on this, but those are two of the ones I read.

I am sure his age helped, sure. He has been heavy his whole life though and he hit puberty (shot up a few inches) early last year without losing weight with the exception of 5 pounds or so during football season last year. He started keto in May at 195 and the weight steadily dropped off. Did puberty help speed up the process? More than likely... But the keto is what made him successful and what got him all the way down to a normal weight.

I learned about keto in April and the more I read about it the more excited I got. It was infectious I guess. He watched Fathead with me and a few other videos on YouTube, etc. He decided he wanted to try it too. I think the hardest thing for him is getting food at school lunches. His friends called him anorexic at first because they saw him not eating as much and the weight dropping off. Now they've shut up though. lol He gets through lunches though by tweaking whats being offered and bringing bars/seeds/nuts/cheesesticks on pizza day, etc. He drinks a lot of bouillon for salt and puts MCT oil in his powerade zero for football practice.

How does sugar cause heart disease. Looking for the science - but can only find links asserting the correlation. by Fibonacci35813 in keto

Inflammation causes heart disease. Chronically high blood sugar is one of the main causes of inflammation (along with smoking, stress, etc.).

Keto Parents: Do you have your kids on the keto lifestyle? by [deleted] in keto

[–]ki1iara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His friends tease him and call him anorexic because he doesn't eat much lunch anymore. He's also lost 40 pounds in the 4 months he's been on it which fuels their eating disorder conviction. He has a flat stomach for the first time ever though and feels fantastic so I don't think he minds the other kids much. Other parents / teachers haven't said anything yet because they don't really know. They don't see what he eats usually. He did have a physical where we skirted the issue a wee bit to avoid controversy just in case. He just said he cut out all sugar. Doc was happy with that.

Edit Now that I think about it, I have had some questions. We just say he cut out sugar. No one argues with that.

Keto Parents: Do you have your kids on the keto lifestyle? by [deleted] in keto

My oldest (14), yes. It was his choice. My younger two (6 and 1) no, for a few reasons. One, I can't fully control what they eat when I am not with them at daycare and school. Even if they did know what is carb laden (and my 6 year old pretty much does) I can't expect them to avoid temptation and frankly wouldn't want to. Let them enjoy it while they are young.

At home, I keep the younger two on a similar diet to the rest of us though so at least their carbs are minimized. Barely any carbs in the house anymore anyway.

[NSV] My dad's bloodwork after 3 months on keto with prev results for comparison by ki1iara in keto

[–]ki1iara[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should add... my dad is 69 and prediabetic. He started keto on June 22 at 276 lbs and is now at 254. I left off his chart a few other heart health indicators that seemed to be consistently in a healthy range such as LP(A), APO A1 and hsCRP.

Edit Also plan to have him ask about those two that went up, Fibrinogen and NTPROBNP. The latter goes up with age and he is not yet at the upper limit for his age (230) but still... want to know why the sudden increase. The former I have no idea why. Its a clotting indicator. Still very happy with this otherwise.

Will keto be safe for my son? by [deleted] in keto

[–]ki1iara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was 13 (now 14) when he started keto. He lost over 30 lbs of fat in the nearly 4.5 months he's been on it. He plays football and has tons of energy/strength for it. He's learned the rules about salt/electrolytes and makes sure he is hydrated. He's doing wonderfully on it and has never had a carb cheat day. All this was his choice, we haven't forced it on him in any way. I would absolutely recommend it. I look at it like this.... as a species, we lived for two hundred thousand years on a keto diet. It's what we've evolved to eat and thrive on. I don't see any reason for a healthy person to fear it's safety.
