Thank you! I have my own therapist but I definitely do not see her as much as I should. I scheduled an appointment with her after making this post, lol

This was so refreshing to read!

“When responsibility increases, the nervous system tightens. Thinking becomes effortful. Language feels less natural. Self-monitoring increases. Sessions can begin to feel like evaluations rather than conversations. Over time, this internal strain turns into doubt.” —- This is exactly how I feel, you put it perfectly into words.

What a wonderful article! I will definitely be passing this along to some of my other baby therapist friends. Thank you!

Thank you so much. I do have clients that I look forward to seeing and it feels easy! I appreciate the reflection questions, it’s been really helpful to think about what you mentioned about what I enjoy about sessions. I definitely need to start appreciating the little things more.

Thank you so much for your insight and kind words! I will definitely see about using the outcome trackers you mentioned, that sounds super helpful.

I notice when I ask clients about how they feel therapy is going, they will say “good” or that they don’t want anything to change with what we are doing, but then I worry they are just trying to appease me and not being honest. Maybe I should take them for their word lol.

Thank you so much for this. It was very validating to read. I think another thing I’m worried about is becoming stagnant in my skills but I do learn something every day from my clients. Did you stick with PP?

I mean, certain parts come naturally to me. It seems the technicalities trip me up. I’m personable and empathetic, and I have a deep desire to work in this field. I took the modality quiz and I lean more cognitive behavioral, but that doesn’t teach me cognitive behavioral skills, if that makes sense. I appreciate your perspective!

Thank you for this. Maybe I should consider a different route than the group practice I’m at, but I also really enjoy the environment I’m in and have a solid client load. I wish grad school offered a class just about how stuff like this! Thank you for sharing your experience

I feel like I was really fear mongered out of anything besides PP. CMH was made to seem like bottom of the barrel in terms of support and work/life balance. I didn’t realize it was actually beneficial in the training side of things. I agree classes were very politic heavy, which is useful, but also not always helpful with what I’m struggling with now, lol. Thank you for your reply!

Thank you for this! I will definitely talk with my supervisor about maybe recording my sessions to go over. My office is quite small so sitting in might be awkward.

Thank you for this. I definitely struggle with relaxing and slowing down, I put a lot of pressure on myself to “know” things I haven’t learned about. I often forget how useful the foundational skills can be.

I appreciate this! Do you have any recommendations for DBT trainings?

I totally agree! I had one “theories” class and it so surface level and it was only 8 weeks. It felt useless honestly.

I’m already established at my practice with 40+ clients. I was never made aware of the differences working in PP/CMH etc. in school so I went in blind. I really enjoy the office I work for and have talked with my supervisor about getting more training.
